Pandemic Pause: Meetup in the Smokies, Day 1

Back in mid September, my dear friend, who lives in Houston, Texas, decided that she needed a break after 6 long months of sheltering at home with her husband and two teenage kids. She called me up and talked me into meeting up with her in the Smoky Mountains, by the NC-Tennessee border. Even though Joel and I already had another mountain trip booked by then, I happily agreed to make a 5-hour drive to match her 15-hour journey from Texas! 😊

เมื่อประมาณกลางเดือนกันยาปีที่แล้ว คุณนายหยก เพื่อนนักเรียนสมัยมัธยมที่ตอนนี้ย้ายครอบครัวมาอยู่ที่เมือง Houston รัฐ Texas เกิดอาการเบื่อชีวิตติดบ้าน หลังจากที่กักตัวอยู่กับสามีและลูกวัยทีนสองคนมาหลายเดือน เลยโทรมาชวนไปเจอกันที่ Smoky Mountains ซึ่งอยู่ทางตะวันตกของรัฐ NC ตรงชายแดนติดกับรัฐ Tennessee จริงๆแล้วเราสองคนจองทริปไปแถวนั้นกันไว้แล้ว แต่เพื่อนอุตส่าห์มาชวน เราจะปฏิเสธไปก็ใช่ที่ ของเราขับรถกันไปแค่ 5 ชั่วโมง เค้าขับกันมาจาก Texas ไกลกว่าหลายเท่า เลยตอบตกลงไปด้วยความเต็มอกเต็มใจ 😊

We left early so we can make stops along the way. We planned for a lunch stop in Hickory, which was exactly at the halfway point to our destination in Bryson City. But before that, a pit stop in a little town called Statesville to check out this cool mural by a Charlotte artist Alex DeLarge (as far as I know, he doesn’t have anything to do with the famous character from the 1970s cult classic Stanley Kubrick film ‘A Clockwork Orange’ 🙄). According to the website Strange Carolinas, where I spotted this from, there was an interesting story behind this particular Prince Mural. Apparently Mr. DeLarge did not obtain the permit required for putting his art here 😬, so local authorities planned to have it painted over, but when Prince fans staged a protest, in the end they just allowed it to stay. 😆

เช้าวันอาทิตย์เราออกจากบ้านกันแต่เช้าตรู่ เผื่อเวลาแวะเที่ยวตามรายทาง ดูแผนที่แล้ววางแผนจะไปกินข้าวกลางวันกันที่เมือง Hickory ซึ่งอยู่ครึ่งทางพอดิบพอดี แต่ก่อนหน้านั้นเราไปแวะกันที่เมืองเล็กๆที่มีชื่อว่า Statesville ซึ่งมีจิตรกรรมฝาผนังในรูปข้างบนไว้ให้ชมกัน งานศิลปะชิ้นนี้เป็นผลงานของจิตรกรจากเมือง Charlotte ชื่อคุณ Alex DeLarge (ชื่อเดียวกับตัวร้ายจากหนังดังของ Stanley Kubrick ยุคปี 1970 เรื่อง ‘A Clockwork Orange’ แต่เท่าที่ทราบไม่มีความเกี่ยวข้องกันแต่อย่างใด 🙄) ทางเวบไซต์ Strange Carolinas ที่ไปเจอมาเล่าให้ฟังไว้ว่าคุณ Alex แกลงมือเพ้นท์รูปนักร้องดังท่านนี้เพื่อเป็นอนุสรณ์ หลังจากที่คุณ​ Prince เสียชีวิตลงเมื่อเดือนเมษายนปี 2016 แต่เกิดไม่ได้ไปขอใบอนุญาตล่วงหน้า 😬 ทางการเลยจัดเตรียมเจ้าหน้าที่เพื่อมาทาสีทับ แต่แฟนเพลงเกิดได้ข่าวเลยกรูกันมาประท้วง สุดท้ายเค้าเลยยอมอนุโลมให้แค่ครั้งนี้ครั้งเดียว

Just a few months later, the same artist decided to pull the same trick with a Muhammad Ali mural right across the same parking lot. But that one got removed immediately after 😐, so now there is only a faint residue of the portrait left, but you can still definitely make out the contour of his face on the wall. There are a couple other pieces of work there too – apparently they did get a permit for them! 

อีกไม่กี่เดือนถัดมาเมื่อคุณ Muhammad Ali มาเสียชีวิตลงติดๆกัน คุณ Alex แกคงได้ใจจากคราวก่อน เลยไปลงมือเพ้นท์รูปนักมวยชื่อดังไว้ที่ฝาผนังฝั่งตรงข้ามโดยไม่ได้ขอใบอนุญาตอีกเหมือนเดิม ปรากฎว่าคราวนี้ทางเจ้าหน้าที่ลงมือรวบรัดทาสีทับโดยไม่รีรอ 😐 สรุปแล้วเลยเหลือไว้แค่รอยรูปจางๆอยู่บนฝาไว้ให้เห็นทุกวันนี้ ถ้ามองใกล้ๆจะเห็นเค้าโครงหน้าคุณ Ali ยังเหลืออยู่ลางๆ นอกจากงานศิลปะสองชิ้นที่ว่าแล้ว ในลานจอดรถเดียวกันยังมีงานอื่นไว้ให้ดูกัน เข้าใจว่าเจ้าของคงจัดการขอใบอนุญาตกันเรียบร้อย เพราะยังคงอยู่กันครบ

Our lunch stop at Bubblys, a Korean fusion spot in Hickory. We ate in the car because their limited outdoor seatings were all occupied. 

มื้อกลางวันเราไปแวะกันที่ร้านอาหารเกาหลีชื่อ Bubblys, ในเมือง Hickory ซื้อแล้วเอามานั่งกินกันในรถเพราะที่นั่งกลางแจ้งของเค้าเต็มหมด คุณสามีไม่ได้หยิบซอสโคชูจังติดมือมาให้ตอนไปรับของ เลยค่อนข้างชืดๆไม่มีรสชาติเท่าไหร่ 😝

On the way over, I realized for the first time why they named these mountains the Blue Ridge! 😉

จากนั้นขับรถกันไปต่อตามทาง มาได้หน่อยสังเกตเห็นทิวเขาสีฟ้าสวยอยู่ไรๆ ถึงมานึกได้ว่า อ้อ เค้าตั้งชื่อเทือกเขาไว้ว่า Blue Ridge Mountains ก็เพราะอย่างนี้นี่เอง 😉

Next stop was at the store Country Time Swings in Maggie Valley to snap a picture of this giant red rocker chair! The store, like many others, was closed due to the pandemic. 😔 The chair itself does not rock, by the way, for safety reason they said. Still a very cool photo op spot nonetheless! 😊

จุดนัดถัดไปเป็นร้านชื่อ Country Time Swings ในเมือง Maggie Valley ซึ่งเค้ามีเก้าอี้โยกขนาดยักษ์สีแดงเด่นตั้งไว้อยู่หน้าร้าน ตัวร้านเองติดป้ายปิดกิจการไว้หน้าประตู คาดว่าคงจะเพราะพิษโควิด 😔 ไหนๆมาแล้วเลยขอปีนขึ้นไปเก็บรูปไว้เป็นหลักฐานซักหน่อย 😊 แต่ขึ้นไปนั่งเก้าอี้แล้วปรากฎว่าไม่โยก เพราะเค้าบอกว่ากลัวจะเป็นอันตรายต่อแขกผู้มาชม 😆

This next one was my favorite of the day! 😍 Mountain Mike’s was also closed, but you can still browse through this very impressive collection of carved wooden artwork lining their front yard. 

อีกร้านถัดมาไม่ไกล อันนี้ชอบมาก 😍 ร้าน Mountain Mike’s นี่ก็ปิดเหมือนกัน แต่มีผลงานไม้แกะสลักเก๋ๆหลายชิ้นตั้งวางอยู่เต็มลานหน้าร้านไว้ให้ถ่ายรูปกันได้ตามอัธยาศัย

The Death Statue at Soco Cycles! 😳

หุ่นไม้ Death Statue ที่หน้าร้าน Soco Cycles 😳 นี่ก็ปิดอีกเช่นกัน

The only destination on my list that day that was opened for business was Soco Crafts, where a big sign out front boasts that this is the ‘Most Photographed View In The Smokies’. 🤔 We paid the 50 cent fee each to walk up this tower next door to get a glimpse of the bragged upon view… And it was pretty impressive. 🙄 I’m not sure if it lived up to the advertisement, but it was definitely well worth the tiny pittance they asked for it!

วันนั้นมีเปิดรับแขกอยู่ร้านเดียวก็คือร้าน Soco Crafts เค้ามีป้ายลูกศรยักษ์โฆษณาไว้ว่าที่นี่เป็น “วิวที่คนมาแวะถ่ายรูปกันเยอะที่สุดในเทือกเขา Smokies” 🤔 เลยต้องยอมจ่ายค่าผ่านประตูคนละ 50 ตังค์ เพื่อปีนขึ้นหอไปพิสูจน์ความงามกันดู ขึ้นไปถึงก็… เออ สวยใช้ได้อยู่ 🙄 ไม่แน่ใจว่าจะอลังการเท่าที่เค้าอวดรึเปล่า แต่ที่แน่ๆคือคุ้มค่าเงิน 50 ตังค์ที่จ่ายไปอย่างแน่นอน 😂

Shortly after, we came upon the tiny parking lot for Soco Falls. It was very easy to miss if you weren’t looking for it. A short walk led us to these spectacular multi-tier waterfalls. The leaves were just starting to turn there, making it even more beautiful than any regular average-day waterfalls! 😍

ขับเลยไปอีกหน่อยจะเจอที่จอดรถเล็กๆสำหรับน้ำตก Soco Falls แอบอยู่ที่ทางโค้งทางด้านซ้ายมือ ถ้าไม่สังเกตอาจจะขับเลยได้ง่ายๆอย่างคุณสามีเรา 😆 จอดเสร็จเดินตามทางไปไม่ถึงห้านาทีก็จะเจอน้ำตกสวยงามหลายชั้นอย่างที่เห็น ใบไม้ที่นั่นกำลังเริ่มจะเปลี่ยนสีนิดๆ เลยยิ่งสวยขึ้นไปกว่าปรกติอีกเท่าตัว 😍

Last but not least, another roadside gem courtesy of Strange Carolinas! This long abandoned roadside motel on Highway US 19 in Whittier is one of the most disturbing sights 😨 I have ever seen. It’s hard to imagine how they decided to build the motel around these trees in the first place, and why they thought it would be a good idea…🤨

ท้ายที่สุดด้วยอภินันทนาการอีกอันจากเวบไซต์ Strange Carolinas ทัวร์กระยาจกของเราวันนั้นเลยได้ไปจบกันที่โรงแรมร้างเล็กๆแห่งนี้ ซึ่งตั้งอยู่บนถนนไฮเวย์สาย 19 ในเมือง Whittier คือเป็นอะไรที่ดูแล้วหลอนมาก ไม่เข้าใจว่าทำไมเค้าถึงตัดสินใจมาสร้างโรงแรมล้อมรอบต้นใม้ใหญ่เหล่านี้ แล้วก่อนสร้างไม่คิดกันหรือว่าต้นไม้มันจะต้องเติบโต…🤨

We checked in to Erica’s Dream, our cozy little cabin in Bryson City before meeting up with my friend and her family for dinner in town.

ในที่สุดก็มากันถึงบ้านน้อยบนภูเขาที่ตั้งชื่อเก๋ไก๋ไว้ว่า Erica’s Dream แวะมาเอาของลงกันก่อนบึ่งไปเจอเพื่อนสาวและครอบครัวในตัวเมือง Bryson City

Joel got a free beer at Mountain Layers Brewing Company, paid forward by a kind stranger. We enjoyed the colorful dusk sky of this tiny mountain town from their rooftop section while we waited for our dinner reservation at The Bistro at Everett Hotel, just across the river. It was great catching up with old friends, even in the middle of the pandemic!

ระหว่างรอโต๊ะอาหารเย็นที่จองไว้ เราไปแวะดื่มเบียร์เย็นๆกันที่ร้าน Mountain Layers Brewing Company คุณสามีควักกระเป๋าออกมาจะจ่ายตังค์ ปรากฏน้องแคชเชียร์บอกว่าไม่ต้อง มีคนจ่ายให้แล้ว คือลูกค้าคนก่อนใจดีจ่ายตังค์ล่วงหน้าไว้ให้ลูกค้าคนถัดไป สรุปคืนนั้นเลยได้ขึ้นไปนั่งชมวิวพระอาทิตย์ตกบนดาดฟ้าพลางจิบเบียร์ฟรี ก่อนจะไปทานอาหารเย็นกันที่ร้าน The Bistro at Everett Hotel ถึงแม้ว่าจะต้องนั่งกันห่างๆ และตะโกนคุยกันบ้างด้วยความระมัดระวัง แต่เราก็ยังดีใจที่ได้เจอเพื่อน 😊

After that we went back to the cabin and relaxed in the hot tub with a glass of wine, after the long day. To make it even more special, we had this barred owl to keep us company while we were out there! 😍 After that, a quick shower and a warm relaxing night in front of the roaring fire!

กินข้าวเสร็จเรากลับเคบินไปนั่งจิบไวน์แช่ในอ่างน้ำร้อนกัน นั่งๆอยู่เหลือบไปเห็นเจ้านกฮูกตาโตมาเกาะอยู่บนกิ่งไม้ใกล้ๆเป็นเพื่อน 😍 แช่กันจนเปื่อยถึงได้เข้าไปอาบน้ำแล้วออกมานั่งผิงไฟกันหน้าทีวี

Annual Christmas Lights 2020

Even with 2020 being such an abnormal year, we still tried to maintain some sense of normalcy by keeping our holiday Christmas lights tour tradition intact. This year, after being cooped up at home for months on end, we set out for not one or two, but three total excursions in all! 😊

แม้ว่าปี 2020 จะเป็นปีที่ชีวิตมีอันต้องเปลี่ยนไปในหลายรูปแบบ แต่อย่างน้อยก็มีกิจกรรมประจำปีที่เรายังสามารถรักษาไว้ได้นั่นก็คือการออกไปทัวร์ตระเวนล่าหาไฟคริสต์มาสสวยๆดูกัน ด้วยความที่หมกตัวอยู่กับบ้านมาเกือบทั้งปี ได้ออกจากบ้านทั้งทีเลยได้โอกาสจัดเต็ม ทัวร์กันไปถึงสามรอบในเดือนเดียว 😊

First, we drove an hour away to see the Electric Light Fantasy at Whirligig Park in Wilson. It turned out to be quite a laughable event, just not in the way we intended… 🙄 We were asked to get there 45 minutes before the show started. About 15 minutes out, they started letting the cars in. There were about 30 cars lined up in the small parking lot. The show began with these two laser sources projecting lights up into the sky, with Christmas songs playing in the background. We kept waiting for more to come but soon realized that was pretty much it. 😐 You basically saw the entire show from all the pictures up there, just imagine all the popular Christmas songs in the background and there you have it! 😆 The kids in the cars in front of us lost their interest before the second song started. And the guy in the car next to us was on his phone pretty much the entire time! 🤣

รายการแรกคืองานแสงสีเสียง Electric Light Fantasy ซึ่งจัดขึ้นที่ Whirligig Park ในเมือง Wilson อุตส่าห์ขับรถไปตั้งเกือบชั่วโมงเพื่อไปดู ดูจบน้ำตาแทบไหลด้วยความตื้นตัน 🙄 เค้าบอกมาว่าให้ไปถึงก่อนเวลาโชว์ 45 นาที รอซักพัก 15 นาทีก่อนเริ่มรายการเจ้าหน้าที่ก็ทยอยโบกรถให้เข้าไปจอดเรียงกันในลานจอดรถขนาดกะทัดรัด กะดูแล้วประมาณซัก 30 คันได้ พอได้เวลาแสงสีเสียงเริ่มต้นตามกำหนด มีไฟเลเซอร์สองอันส่องฉายขึ้นไปบนฟ้าเต้นไปมาเป็นจังหวะตามเพลงคริสต์มาส ไอ้เราก็นึกว่าอันนี้คงเป็นการวอร์มอัพ เดี๋ยวคงจะต้องอลังการมากกว่านี้ รอไปรอมาชักจะเริ่มตระหนักว่าเออนี่แหละนะมันอลังของเค้าแล้ว 😐 คือประมาณว่าดูรูปข้างบนแล้วจินตนาการเพลงตามไปด้วยก็คือเหมือนได้ไปดูโชว์ด้วยตัวเอง 😆 เด็กๆในรถแถวหน้าตื่นเต้นกันอยู่ได้ไม่ถึงครึ่งเพลงแรกก็เลิกดูกันแล้ว ส่วนคุณพี่ผู้ชายรถถัดจากเราตาแทบจะไม่ได้ละไปจากจอโทรศัพท์ในมือตลอดรายการ 🤣

A week after that, we set out for a proper light tour in south Durham, following the route offered by Built Story. In general, we feel that people put a lot more effort in their holiday lights game this year – one of the rare COVID benefits I suppose! 😛 We saw many good displays on the route, but nothing blew us away until we arrived at the last one on the list…

อาทิตย์ถัดมาขอแก้ตัวด้วยการไปทัวร์ไฟคริสต์มาสที่เมือง Durham คราวนี้เราไปตามเส้นทางที่จัดโดยแอปชื่อ Built Story โดยรวมแล้วรู้สึกว่าปีนี้ทุกบ้านจัดไฟมาแสดงกันอย่างทุ่มทุนสร้างมากกว่าทุกปี คาดว่าจะเป็นผลดีที่มาจากความที่ต่างคนต่างอยู่บ้านไม่มีอะไรทำ 😛 ชมกันเพลิดเพลินจนมาถึงบ้านหลังสุดท้ายของรายการ…

‘The Griswold House’ looked exactly like the house on the National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation house in the movie! 😳

บ้านนี้ตั้งชื่อไว้ว่า ‘The Griswold House’ ตามบ้านในหนังคริสต์มาสยอดฮิต National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation ถ้าใครเคยดูคงจำได้ว่าเจ้าของบ้านในหนังติดไฟไว้เต็มบ้านประมาณที่เห็นจนทำเอาไฟดับไปทั้งบาง 😳

On the way to Durham, we noticed this bright light illuminating the whole sky half way there on the I-40 freeway. It looked almost like a huge wildfire, so eerie and bizarre that we decided to stop by and check it out on our way back. It turned out to be some large greenhouse operation at this biotech company in the RTP. Mystery solved! 😆

ขาไป Durham ขับรถไปได้ครึ่งทางไปเห็นแสงประหลาดอยู่ไม่ไกลจากฟรีเวย์ คือมันสว่างไสวไปทั่วฟ้าเหมือนกับไฟป่าลามทุ่งเลยทีเดียว ขากลับก็ยังสว่างอยู่ เลยต้องขับไปสำรวจกันใกล้ๆดูซักหน่อย ปรากฎว่าไปเจอเป็น greenhouse ขนาดมหึมาของบริษัทใน RTP นี่เอง ปฏิบัติการไขปริศนาเสร็จสิ้นถึงกลับบ้านกันได้ 😆

Since we felt like we didn’t get quite enough from our Durham tour, we decided to set out on yet another tour a few days later, this time in the southeast Raleigh, Knightdale and Clayton area. Again, these were all new to us, since we never came out this way in the previous years. There were some really great displays, mostly homemade production. We did see one big show in a park in downtown Lake Myra, but didn’t stay long because it was crowded and there were quite a number of people there no mask on. 😐

กลับมารู้สึกว่ายังดูไฟได้ไม่เต็มอิ่ม อีกสองวันต่อมาเลยต้องขอออกไปกันอีกรอบ คราวนี้เรามุ่งหน้าไปยังทิศตรงกันข้ามที่ฝั่งตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ของเมือง Raleigh เลยไปถึงเมือง Knightdale และเมือง Clayton ซึ่งอยู่ถัดออกไป แถบนี้อยู่ไกลจากบ้านหน่อยเลยไม่เคยมากัน บ้านช่องชานเมืองแถวนี้เค้าก็จัดเต็มไม่แพ้กับบ้านใหญ่ๆในเมือง เราไปจบทัวร์กันที่เมืองเล็กๆที่มีชื่อว่า Lake Myra ที่นี่ทางการเค้าจัดไฟไว้ให้ประชาชนดูกันที่พาร์คกลางเมือง ซึ่งก็อลังการงานสร้างอยู่ไม่น้อย แถมมีดีเจเปิดเพลงคริสต์มาสเข้าจังหวะอีกด้วย คนก็มากันตรึมเต็มพาร์ค แต่เดินดูแล้วแอบเห็นว่าหลายคนไม่ใส่หน้ากากอนามัย เลยขอบายกันดีกว่า 😐

All in all, another good year of Christmas light tour! 😍 It did help bring us some joy amidst this darkened pandemic time. Here’s a bonus one we saw on the way to our Korean grocery store in Cary one night. My husband sure wanted to know how they got all the lights so high up those tall trees! 🤔

สรุปว่าคริสต์มาสสัญจรปีนี้จบลงด้วยดีไปอีกรอบ 😍 ดูไฟเพลินๆทำให้ช่วยลืมไปได้หน่อยว่าปีนี้เป็นปีที่ชีวิตอับเฉาที่สุดเท่าที่เคยเป็นมา บ้านข้างบนนี่เป็นโบนัสจากการไปซื้อกับข้าวที่ตลาดเกาหลีใกล้บ้านที่เมือง Cary คุณสามีประทับใจสุดๆและอยากทราบมากว่าเค้าเอาไฟขึ้นไปติดต้นไม้สูงรอบบ้านขนาดนั้นได้อย่างไร 🤔

And last but not least, our own Christmas decorations at home. This year we added another set on our back balcony for a more festive atmosphere! 😊

ท้ายที่สุดเป็นไฟคริสต์มาสจากบ้านน้อยของเราเอง ปีนี้นอกจากไฟหน้าบ้านแล้ว เราจัดไฟบนระเบียงหลังบ้านเพื่อเพิ่มบรรยากาศความรื่นเริงอีกเท่าตัว 😊

Pandemic Pit Stop: Cheap Thrills in Chapel Hill

It’s finally time for another Pandemic Pit Stop chapter! It’s been a while since our last trip, because we were busying traveling. 😛 With not one but two trips to the mountains packed in during the month of October, we simply did not get a chance to venture out closer to home at all. Until now, that is! 😊

วันนี้ได้ฤกษ์กลับมานำเสนอโปรแกรมออกนอกบ้านต้านโควิดตอนล่าสุด หลังจากที่ห่างหายไปซะนาน เพราะมัวแต่ไปเที่ยวตะลอนกัน 😛 เมื่อเดือนตุลาคมที่ผ่านมามีทริปภูเขากันถึงสองรอบ เลยไม่มีเวลามาเที่ยวที่ใกล้ๆบ้าน กลับมาพักจนหายเหนื่อยถึงได้กลับมาตะลุยกันต่อ 😊

Chapel Hill is a fun college town located just half an hour from where we live. It is the home of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, America’s first public university and the flagship location of the UNC system. Having been here so many times, I never realized how many cool spots this place has to offer. We found them neatly tucked away all over town.

เมือง Chapel Hill เป็นเมืองมหาลัยที่อยู่ไม่ไกลจากบ้าน ขับรถไปใช้เวลาแค่ครึ่งชั่วโมงเท่านั้น ที่นี่เป็นที่ตั้งของ University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ซึ่งเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยรัฐแห่งแรกของอเมริกา และเป็นสาขาหลักของมหาวิทยาลัยในเครือข่ายของ UNC เรามาที่นี่กันหลายครั้ง แต่เพิ่งจะมาครั้งนี้ที่ได้มาเห็นของแปลกๆหลายอย่างที่ไม่เคยเห็นกันมาก่อน

Starting off with my favorite type of excursion 😊 – a cemetery walk at Sparrow and Mt Carmel Cemetery.

to a more contemporary collection of truly unique ones… 😇 These are one of the most creative gravestones I had ever seen – such a great way to celebrate your loved one’s life after they are gone! We made a quick refuel stop at Beer Study and Al’s Burger Shack downtown. One thing we noticed while walking around is that people here take mask wearing 😷 very seriously – kudos to them!

ไปแวะเติมพลังกันที่ร้าน BeerStudy แล้วตามด้วยเบอร์เกอร์แสนอร่อยจาก Al’s Burger Shack ที่ย่านดาวน์ทาวน์ แอบสังเกตมาว่าคนเมืองนี้เค้าจริงจังกับการสวมหน้ากากอนามัยกันมาก 😷 ไม่ว่าไปที่ไหนส่วนใหญ่ใส่กันแทบทั้งนั้น เทียบกับเมืองอื่นๆแถวนี้แล้วต้องยกนิ้วให้เค้าจริงๆ

After that, we stopped by UNC campus to check out the Crouching Spider sculpture, located right across from Memorial Hall. This 27 x 9 feet piece of artwork was created by French-American artist Louise Bourgeois, from bronze and stainless steel. This is another traveling installment. It was originally scheduled to be relocated back in August, but was still there when we visited, so I assumed there must be a COVID delay…🙄

หลังจากอิ่มหมีพีมันกันแล้ว เราไปแวะชมรูปปั้นแมงมุมยักษ์ขนาด 27 x 9 ฟุต ผลงานของศิลปินลูกครึ่งชาวฝรั่งเศสอเมริกันชื่อ Louise Bourgeois ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ตรงข้ามตึก Memorial Hall ในเขตมหาลัย UNC รูปปั้นนี้ไปตั้งแสดงมาแล้วหลายแห่ง และย้ายมาไว้ที่นี่ตั้งแต่เมื่อเดือนสิงหาคมปี 2018 เดิมทีมีกำหนดจะต้องย้ายไปที่ใหม่เมื่อเดือนสิงหาคมที่ผ่านมา แต่คาดว่าอาจจะถูกพิษโควิดเลยได้อยู่ต่อมาจนถึงบัดนี้ 🙄

Not far on the eastern end of campus is the location of Gimghoul Castle, buried deep in the woods next to a classy neighbourhood at the end of Gimghoul Road. This mysterious looking structure is shrouded by legends and rumors on its origin. One story alleged that it was the location where a former UNC student named Peter Dromgoole got murdered from a love triangle gone wrong. 😬Another painted it as the meeting place of a secret society for students and faculty members called the Order of Gimghoul.

From there, we drove to the western end of town to check out another unique structure, known by many different names: Hartleyhenge, Stone Knoll, or the NC Stonehenge. It features a set of stones that form a shape of a spiral, with 4 giant slabs sitting on each corner that symbolizes each end of a compass. According to StrangeCarolinas where I got wind of this from, there was not much information about it online, except that it was built by an architect named John Hartley. This reminds us of Callanish Stones, a similar but much larger and much much older formation we saw on the Outer Hebrides in Scotland a few years ago.

There were beautiful inscriptions engraved on the 4 large stone pieces, topped with different sets of animal footprints, including White Buffalo hoofs, Coyote paws, Bear claws, and Eagle talons.

We ended the night with a whisky tasting at Mystic Farm & Distillery in Durham. 🥰

Thanksgiving Hike: Campbell Creek Loop at Raven Rock

This year, Thanksgiving brought back fond memories from our days in LA. 😍 Back then, we celebrated Thanksgiving with just the two of us, by inevitable distance from families. Since neither of us were willing to endure the typical travel madness, we opted to enjoy quiet time at home gorging on pre-ordered Gourmet Supermarket meals! 😋

Thanksgiving ปีนี้เหมือนได้กลับไปอยู่แอลเออีกรอบ 😍 ตอนนั้นเพราะว่าอยู่ไกลบ้านและไม่อยากต้องไปสู้รบกับฝูงชนที่สนามบิน เลยต้องฉลองกันแค่สองคนด้วยการสั่งอาหารแบบทำสำเร็จจากซุปเปอร์มาร์เกต (ไฮโซ) ใกล้บ้านมากินกัน สั่งทีเป็นมื้อใหญ่กินไปได้ทั้งอาทิตย์ กินจนประมาณว่าไม่มีความอยากไก่งวงไปอีกเป็นปี 😆

Fast forward to 2020, and we had a deja vu – a preordered Thanksgiving meal for two, this time from a local restaurant downtown. Despite close proximity to Joel’s family, the raging pandemic forced us to relive our LA tradition and forgo the regular family gathering for an isolated celebration, Covid-19 style. 😣 We did stop by and brought a plate of food for Joel’s mom, who lives not too far away

มาถึงปี 2020 ได้มีโอกาสย้อนรำลึกความหลังด้วยความจำเป็น ทั้งๆย้ายที่มาอยู่ใกล้กับครอบครัว Joel และปรกติจะไปฉลอง Thanksgiving กันทุกปี แต่ปีนี้ด้วยพิษโควิดเลยต้องงดปาร์ตี้ตามคำแนะนำของรัฐ 😣 กลับมาฉลองเทศกาลตามสไตล์เดิมๆกันสองคนอีกครั้ง เราไปสั่ง Thanksgiving meal จากร้านอาหารดังในเมือง สั่งแพคเกจสองสำรับ สามารถแบ่งไปให้คุณแม่สามีได้จานใหญ่ๆหนึ่งจาน แล้วยังเหลือไว้กินเองกันสองคนได้อีกอย่างน้อยสองมื้อ 😅

After a socially-distance catchup in her backyard, we headed off for a quick hike at Raven Rock State Park on the way home to work off some of that turkey feast we had the night before! 😆

หลังจากที่แวะไปส่งปิ่นโตที่บ้านคุณแม่สามี และยืนคุยกันอยู่ในสวนหลังบ้านโดยการรักษาระยะห่างทางสังคมพร้อมทั้งสวมหน้ากากอนามัยกันตามระเบียบ เราไปแวะเดินป่าย่อยไก่งวง 😆 กันที่ Raven Rock State Park ซึ่งอยู่ระหว่างทางกลับบ้าน

The park was unusually empty when we arrived late in the afternoon, just as we hoped. Since we only had an hour of daylight left, we opted to go with the Campbell Creek Loop Trail, which starts off right next to the large parking lot in front of the visitor center. 

ไปถึงตอนบ่ายแก่ๆ เจอทางโล่งสมใจตามความคาดหมาย เราเลือกไปเดินกันที่ Campbell Creek Loop Trail ซึ่งมีจุดเริ่มต้นไม่ไกลจากตึกศูนย์บริการนักท่องเที่ยวซึ่งตั้งอยู่กับลานจอดรถกว้างขวางที่วันนั้นมีรถจอดอยู่เพียงไม่กี่คัน

Knowing that we were running out of daylight, we did not finish the whole loop. Instead, we did an about-face after a little over a mile in, right after we saw this tiny little cave/waterfall to our left. 

เพราะรู้ว่ามีเวลาแค่ชั่วโมงกว่าๆก่อนพระอาทิตย์จะตก เราเลยไม่ได้ตั้งใจจะเดินให้ครบรอบ กะไว้ว่าเดินไปซักพักค่อยหันหลังเดินกลับ เดินไปได้ไมล์กว่าๆพอดีไปเจอถ้ำเล็กๆในรูปที่มีน้ำตกขนาดจิ๋วอยู่ด้านใน เลยได้โอกาสจบการเดินทาง ณ จุดนั้น

There wasn’t much of the pretty Fall leaves left, but we still managed to find bright patches of colors here and there throughout the trail. 😍

ใบไม้สีสวยแทบจะไม่เหลือไว้ให้ดูแล้ว ปีนี้รู้สึกว่าจะร่วงกันเร็วเหลือเกิน ปรกติแถวนี้ปลายเดือนพฤศจิกาน่าจะยังมีสีให้เห็น แต่ยังไงก็ยังอุตส่าห์ไปส่องเจอได้ประปรายตามทาง 😍

We did 2.57 miles in just over an hour, with almost 500 feet elevation gain! Too bad we didn’t make it all the way to the larger waterfall at the end, but we plan to go back and finish the loop one of these days… 😐

วันนั้นเดินกันไป 2.57 ไมล์ หรือ ประมาณ 4 กิโลนิดๆ ใช้เวลาทั้งหมดชั่วโมงหน่อยๆ เหงื่อออกกำลังดีเพราะทางชันขึ้นเขาบ้างเป็นบางส่วน เสียดายว่าคราวนี้เดินไปไม่ถึงน้ำตกใหญ่ปลายทาง ไว้คราวหน้าจะมาใหม่จะได้เดินให้ครบรอบ แต่ไม่รู้เหมือนกันว่าจะได้ไปอีกเมื่อไหร่ 😐

There was only a handful of cars left in the lot when we got back. The lights were so pretty I couldn’t resist snapping a few more shots! 😊

Came across these oddly shaped clouds in the evening sky, something I had never seen before! I am certainly no cloud expert but I looked it up and believe this is what they call the Arcus cloud – a low horizontal formation that usually occurs before a storm. 🤔 But there was no storm that night, so I could be wrong… 🙄

ขับรถออกมาหน่อยเจอเมฆหน้าตาประหลาดพาดขวางอยู่ตรงหน้า เลยต้องถ่ายรูปเก็บไว้เป็นหลักฐาน กลับบ้านมาหาข้อมูลคิดว่าเค้าเรียกกันว่าเมฆอาร์คัส หรือเมฆกันชน ซึ่งเป็นเมฆทะมึนลอยต่ำที่มากับฝนฟ้าคะนอง แต่คืนนั้นฝนก็ไม่ได้ตกนะ 🤔 เอหรือข้อมูลเราจะผิดก็ไม่ทราบได้ 🙄

Pandemic Pause: Wild Horses on Shackleford Banks

Trip Date: August-September 2020

วันสัญจร: สิงหาคม-กันยายน 2563

The last but arguably most epic thing we did before returning home from the beach was a visit to Shackleford Banks to catch a sight of the infamous wild horses that live there on this otherwise uninhabited island. This island was first discovered by John Shackleford in 1713, and used to be home to the Shackleford family, and later several hundred other residents until the frequent hurricanes persuaded them to all move back inland. The population tally was down to 0 by the early 1900s. Since then, it has become part of the Cape Lookout National Seashore area.

กิจกรรมสุดท้ายของทริปชายทะเลเที่ยวนี้คือการไปตามล่าหาม้าป่าบนเกาะ Shackleford Banks เกาะร้างแห่งนี้ถูกค้นพบโดยคุณ​ John Shackleford ซึ่งมาตั้งหลักปักฐานสร้างบ้านอยู่กับครอบครัวตั้งแต่ปีค.ศ.1713 หลังจากนั้นมีเพื่อนบ้านตามาสบทบอีกหลายร้อยราย จนกระทั่งต่างคนต่างทนพิษพายุเฮอริเคนไม่ไหว เลยย้ายหนีกลับแผ่นดินใหญ่กันไปหมด ทิ้งที่นี่ไว้ให้เป็นเกาะร้างตั้งแต่ต้นคริสตศตวรรษที่ 20 ปัจจุบันเกาะแห่งนี้กลายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของอุทยานแห่งชาติ Cape Lookout National Seashore

We woke up early to catch the very first ferry out with Island Express Ferry Service in Beaufort. Not only did we want to beat the crowd, but we were also hoping to beat the heat from the sun 🥵, knowing that there was not going to be much shade on the island. And just for the record, I do know how to properly wear a face mask – the reason why my nose was showing in the picture above was entirely because of the strong ocean wind! 😝

วันนั้นตื่นกันตั้งแต่ไก่ยังไม่โห่ไปขึ้นเรือรอบแรกของ Island Express Ferry Service ออกจากท่าที่เมือง Beaufort เพราะกลัวว่าถ้าไปสายเดี๋ยวคนจะเยอะ แถมแดดจะแรง 🥵 อีกด้วย เพราะรู้มาว่าเกาะนี้หาที่ร่มหลบแดดยากมาก ขอออกตัวว่าในภาพข้างบนที่หน้ากากอนามัยหล่นมาอยู่ใต้จมูกก็เพราะว่าลมทะเลพัดแรง ตีซะหน้ากากเกือบหลุด ไม่ใช่ว่าสักแต่ว่าใส่อย่างบางคนเค้าทำกัน 😝

อีกนิดเดียวจะถูกปล่อยเกาะแล้ว

It was only a short 15 minute ride from Beaufort, but felt like an entirely different planet when we disembarked! We had only a handful of fellow travelers on the way out with us that day. The captain kindly gave some tips on where to find the horses and seashells. For some reason everybody else went towards the western shore where she said the seashells were abound. We were the only people heading inland in search of the horses.

เกาะนี้อยู่ไม่ไกลจากฝั่ง นั่งเรือมาแค่ 15 นาทีก็ถึง แต่บรรยากาศห่างไกลกันลิบลับ เช้าวันนั้นที่ไปมีเพื่อนร่วมเดินทางแค่ไม่กี่ราย คุณกัปตันอุตส่าห์บอกเคล็ดลับสำหรับทั้งคนอยากมาดูม้าและคนมาเดินหาเปลือกหอย พอลงจากเรือคนอื่นเดินไปชายฝั่งด้านตะวันตกไปชมเปลือกหอยกันหมด มีแค่เราสองคนเดินไปอีกทางไปส่องหาม้าป่า

We spent about an hour walking around one end of the island. The first half was pretty rough. The intense morning sun was beating down on our backs. We went up sand dunes after sand dunes, with no horses in sight. And, just when I was about to give up, we found our first group of horses! 😍

เราเดินด้อมๆมองๆกันอยู่ชั่วโมงกว่าเห็นจะได้ ครึ่งชั่วโมงแรกส่องแล้วส่องอีกไม่เห็นเจอม้าซักตัว ถึงจะยังเช้าแต่แดดก็เปรี้ยงเหลือเกิน เดินขึ้นลงเนินทรายอยู่หลายลูกจนเกือบถอดใจ สงสัยว่าจะมาเสียเที่ยว ร่ำๆจะชวนกันกลับ ก็มาเจอะคุณม้าสามตัวนี้เข้าพอดี 😍

From then, they just kept on coming. We’d be rounding a turn and coming up with more, weirdly all of them were in groups of three. In the end, we counted 12 horses in total – pretty impressive in a relatively short amount of time on this 1 x 8 square mile stretch of land! According to the National Park Services, who keeps a close watch on them, there are supposed to be over 100 of them roaming around. These were believed to be descendants of the Spanish mustangs, brought over to these shores by shipwrecks in the late 1500s.

We called it quits after getting our fair share of free ponies entertainment and realizing that we had circled back to the north side of the beach, not far from where we started off from. We found the only shade in sight to set out our picnic lunch, which happened to be this lone structure just steps from the only restroom on the island. 🙄

หลังจากที่ชมม้าอย่างเพลิดเพลินจนจุใจแล้ว และค้นพบว่าเดินวนกันกลับมาใกล้ๆกับที่ชายฝั่งเดิมที่เราถูกเอามาปล่อยไว้ เลยได้เวลางัดเอาข้าวปลาที่อุตส่าห์หอบติดมาด้วยออกมานั่งกินกัน มองซ้ายมองขวาหาทำเลดูแล้วมาเจอที่หลบแดดอยู่ใต้บ้านไม้เล็กๆหลังนี้ซึ่งอยู่ถัดจากส้วมแห่งเดียวบนเกาะมาไม่กี่ก้าว 🙄

After lunch, we took the next ferry back to Beaufort. This time we were the only passengers on board. 😉

หลังเสร็จจากมื้อกลางวันเราเดินกลับไปขึ้นเรือกลับไปที่ท่าเรือเมือง Beaufort คราวนี้ได้นั่งเป็นเรือส่วนตัว เพราะมีกันอยู่แค่เราสองคนกับคุณกัปตันเท่านั้น 😉

The captain pointed out one last horse grazing on the shore right before we docked back at the pier in Beaufort. Perfect ending to our perfect day at the beach! 😍

ก่อนถึงฝั่งยังอุตส่าห์มีม้ามาแถมให้เห็นอีกหนึ่งตัวยืนเล็มหญ้าอยู่ริมฝั่ง สรุปว่าแฮปปี้ที่คราวนี้มาไม่เสียเที่ยว 😍

Pandemic Pause: The Bears of New Bern

After our beach hike, we drove over to check out the town of New Bern. Not only is this our very first state capital, it is also the second oldest city in North Carolina. This town was established in 1710, by Swiss and German immigrants. ‘Bern’ is apparently an old Germanic word that means ‘bear’ – that’s why there are bear statues and signs everywhere in town!

หลังจากที่เสร็จจากไปเดินป่าริมชายหาด เราขับรถไปเที่ยวต่อกันที่เมือง New Bern เมืองนี้นอกจากจะเป็นเมืองหลวงแห่งแรกของนอร์ทแคโรไลน่าแล้ว ยังเป็นเมืองที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดอันดับสองของรัฐอีกด้วย โดยได้รับการสถาปนาขึ้นเมื่อปีค.ศ.1710 หลังจากผู้บุกเบิกชาวสวิสและเยอรมันได้อพยพมาตั้งถิ่นฐานกันที่นี่ คำว่า ‘Bern’ นั้นมีที่มาจากภาษาถิ่นเยอรมันซึ่งแปลว่า ‘หมี’ ฉะนั้นเราถึงได้เห็นสัญลักษณ์รูปหมีอยู่ทั่วเมือง

Like every other towns we visited on this trip, there weren’t many people around, even on a Sunday afternoon. 😔 A quick stroll through the downtown area took us from one historic structure to another. Overall, a very lovely place! This is also the birthplace of the infamous Pepsi-Cola drink. Oh, and did I mention all the bears? 😆

ถึงแม้จะเป็นบ่ายวันอาทิตย์ แต่เมืองนี้ก็ดูเงียบเหงาไม่ต่างไปจากเมืองอื่นๆที่เราไปแวะชมกันมาในทริปนี้ 😔 ย่านดาวน์ทาวน์มีตึกรามบ้านช่องเก่าแก่สวยงามให้เดินดูกันเพลินๆ สถานที่สำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์หลายแห่งมีป้ายบอกรายละเอียดไว้อย่างชัดเจน ที่โดดเด่นที่สุดเห็นจะไม่พ้นร้านขายยาที่ตั้งอยู่ใจกลางเมือง ซึ่งเป็นสถานที่กำเนิดของเครื่องดื่มเป๊บซี่ยอดฮิต ที่ขาดไม่ได้คือคอลเลคชั่นหมีต่างๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นรูปแกะสลัก ม้านั่ง และโลโก้รูปหมีที่เห็นได้ตามป้ายต่างๆทั่วเมือง 😆

To celebrate the town’s 300th anniversary in 2010, the city commissioned local artists to paint more than 50 life-sized fiberglass bears and installed them all over town for public enjoyment. These are the ones we found from about an hour of walking around the downtown area. The full list can be found in this map.

เพื่อเป็นการเฉลิมฉลองวันเกิดครบรอบ 300 ของเมืองนี้เมื่อปีค.ศ.2010 ทางการได้ริเริ่มโปรแกรมให้ศิลปินท้องถิ่นมาเพ้นท์รูปจำลองหมีขนาดเท่าตัวจริงซึ่งทำจากไฟเบอร์กลาสจำนวนกว่า 50 ตัว เพื่อไปตั้งไว้ให้ประชาชนทั่วไปได้ชมตามจุดต่างๆทั่วเมือง ที่เห็นในรูปข้างบนนี่คือหมีที่เราเดินผ่านไปเจอมาในละแวกดาวน์ทาวน์ ถ้าอยากเห็นให้ครบทุกตัวเค้ามีแผนที่ไว้ให้ไปเก็บดูได้ตามสะดวก

The highlight of this particular tour for me, was Cedar Grove Cemetery. It was a beautiful space near the edge of town close to Neuse River. The grand entrance on Queen Street features a triple-arched gateway known as ‘The Weeping Arch’ following the legend where people witnessed liquid droplets that inexplicably materialized whenever a funeral procession passed through. Notable graves include those of several local congressmen, artists, and authors, but the most famous of all was none other than the Pepsi inventor Caleb Bradham‘s.

ไฮไลท์ของทัวร์วันนั้นสำหรับเราก็คือสุสาน Cedar Grove ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ใกล้กับฝั่งแม่น้ำ Neuse River ทางเข้าหลักบนถนน Queen Street เป็นประตูโค้งสามชั้นซึ่งเป็นที่รู้จักกันในชื่อ ‘The Weeping Arch’ หรือ ‘ประตูโค้งร่ำไห้’ โดยได้สมญานามมาจากคำร่ำลือที่ว่า เวลามีขบวนงานศพเคลื่อนตัวลอดผ่านครั้งใดก็ตาม จะมีหยดน้ำรูปร่างคล้ายหยาดน้ำตาปรากฎให้เห็นทุกครั้ง ราวกับว่าใครกำลังร่ำไห้เสียใจกับการจากไปของสมาชิกรายใหม่ที่ย้ายเข้ามาสู่สุสานแห่งนี้ ที่นี่มีหลุมศพของคนสำคัญมากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นบุคคลสำคัญต่างๆทางการเมือง ศิลปิน นักเขียน แต่ที่โด่งดังที่สุดก็คือหลุมศพของคุณ Caleb Bradham ซึ่งเป็นผู้ให้กำเนิดเครื่องดื่มเป๊บซี่ที่เรารู้จักกันดีนั่นเอง

Saturday Hike: Duke Forest, Revisited

The weather here in NC is back in the 70s again this weekend. It was such perfect hiking weather we decided we needed to take advantage of it. We were just going to do a quick hike at one of our tried-and-true spots at Duke Forest. I wasn’t even planning on doing a post since this is a repeat location. But it turned out to be a totally different experience than we intended, so I felt compelled to get it on record after all! 😊

ช่วงนี้อุณหภูมิที่นี่กลับมาอุ่นอีกแล้ว เมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ผ่านมาเจออากาศกำลังดี ไม่ร้อนไม่หนาว เลยอดชวนกันไปเดินป่าไม่ได้ ตอนแรกกะว่าจะไปเดินกันง่ายๆที่ Duke Forest เพราะไม่ได้ไปมานาน จริงๆไม่ได้ตั้งใจจะเอามาลงโพสต์ แต่ไปถึงเกิดการเปลี่ยนแผน สุดท้ายเลยต้องเอามาลงจนได้ 😊

When we first got there, we noticed the ‘Forest Closed’ sign right away. However, upon closer inspection, we realized the closure was for weekdays only, so we were good to go!

ไปถึงยังไม่ทันลงจากรถเหลือบไปเห็นป้ายบอกว่าป่าปิด ลงไปอ่านดูใกล้ๆถึงได้รู้ว่าเค้าปิดแค่วันธรรมดา ดีที่ไม่ได้เลี้ยวรถกลับบ้านไปซะก่อน

About half way towards the wooden bridge on our usual route, our jaws dropped when we saw that about half of the forest was completely gone! 😱

เดินไปได้ครึ่งทางก่อนถึงสะพานไม้ข้ามลำห้วย ตกใจ เฮ้ย ต้นไม้หายไปไหนทั้งแถบ 😱

Here’s the before and after pictures of the same sign right in front of the missing section. The first one was taken the last time we were here, almost exactly a year ago. I just realized, while looking through the pictures, that the last time we were here, the forest was closed then too, for the same reason – ‘Deer Herd Reduction Program.’ I hope this is not their new method to cull the deer population, by taking away their home…? 😐

อุตส่าห์ไปขุดภาพเก่าจากที่มาคราวที่แล้วมาเปรียบเทียบกันให้ดู นี่คือป้ายอันเดียวกันที่ปักไว้อยู่ตรงหน้าช่วงป่าที่ต้นไม้อันตรธานไป ภาพแรกถ่ายไว้เมื่อปีที่แล้ว ส่วนภาพหลังจากเมื่อวันเสาร์นี้ ไปค้นดูรูปถึงได้เห็นว่า คราวที่แล้วที่เรามากันช่วงประมาณเดียวกันนี้ เค้าก็มีป้ายปิดป่าปักไว้ตรงทางเข้าเหมือนกัน ด้วยเหตุผลเดียวกันเพื่อ “จำกัดจำนวนประชากรกวาง” เอ หรือว่าเค้าจะค้นพบวิธีใหม่โดยการทำลายแหล่งที่พักอาศัยเพื่อกำจัดฝูงกวางแถวนี้ 😐

Once we got to the wooden bridge, we decided to be a little adventurous and took the steps down to walk along New Hope Creek. We tried the right side first, but didn’t get very far before the trail appeared to have ended. So we turned around and headed back to the bridge.

ตอนแรกกะไว้ว่าจะเดินตามทางเอกอย่างทุกทีที่เคยมา แต่ไปถึงสะพานไม้ข้ามลำห้วยดูทีท่าแล้วไม่เฉอะแฉะเหมือนคราวก่อนๆ เลยเปลี่ยนใจเลี้ยวลงบันไดไปเดินเลียบห้วยดู เริ่มด้วยทางขวามือก่อน แต่ไปได้ไม่ทันไรก็สุดทางไปต่อไม่ได้ เลยต้องเลี้ยวกลับไปลองอีกฟากแทน

The other side proved to be much better. There were bright blue blazes along the way, which really helped towards the end where it wasn’t very clear to us where the actual trail was. The trail started off nice and easy. Fall color here was a little past its peak, but still very pretty, making this a very pleasant stroll along the creek.

ฝั่งนี้ดูมีภาษีกว่าหลายเท่า มีหมุดปักบอกทางสีฟ้าแจ่มตั้งแต่ช่วงต้นทาง ตอนแรกๆก็ไม่ได้ช่วยอะไรเพราะทางเลียบไปกับลำห้วยเห็นอยู่ชัดๆ แต่หลังๆก็ได้วงกลมสีฟ้านี่แหละ ถึงได้ค่อยๆลัดเลาะคลำได้ถูกทาง ใบไม้ที่นี่ดูแล้วคาดว่าคงจะเริ่มเปลี่ยนสีมาได้พักใหญ่ๆแล้ว แต่ก็ยังสวยอยู่ โดยเฉพาะทางเลียบน้ำอย่างนี้ดูแล้วยิ่งสวยขึ้นไปอีก

The trail led us to a scramble up this steep rock wall. After that, it turned VERY rugged, with slanted narrow paths hugging the edge of the creek. We had to hang on to tree roots and rocks on the side to steady ourselves in order to make it through. 😓

เดินไปซักประมาณครึ่งไมล์ได้ ก็ไปเจอกับหน้าผาหินที่เห็นในรูป ดีว่ามีวงกลมสีฟ้าบอกทางให้ปีนขึ้นไป ไม่งั้นคงไปไม่ถูกแน่ๆ หลังจากนั้นทางกันดารขึ้นอีกหลายเท่า ต้องคอยเกาะก้อนหินกับรากไม้ข้างทางไม่ให้ลื่นตกห้วย 😓

We know, from past trail guides courtesy of Joe Miller, that the trail could take us to the main path which would then lead us back to the parking lot (We did miss that particular hike with Joe, so this was our first time at this section). But after making it to this last blue blaze, we could not find where the trail continued. We gave up, turned around and headed back the way we came. 😞

จากไกด์นำทางที่คุณ Joe Miller เคยให้เรามาไว้ จำได้ว่าทางเลียบห้วยนี่ควรจะนำเรากลับไปสู่ทางหลักที่เลี้ยวไปเจอกับทางไปที่จอดรถได้ (แต่คราวนั้นเราไม่ได้ไปกับเค้าเลยไม่รู้ว่าต้องไปยังไงแน่) แต่หลังจากบุกป่าฝ่าดงมาจนถึงป้ายบอกทางอันสุดท้ายในรูป หายังไงก็ไม่เจอทางไปต่อ สุดท้ายเลยต้องหันหลังเดินกลับทางเดิม 😞

We clocked in at 3.48 miles, which took us almost 2 hours. All in all, it was a cool hike, with certain elements of excitement that makes it unique from our usually more leisure pace! 😅

วันนั้นเดินกันไปประมาณห้ากิโลครึ่ง ใช้เวลาทั้งหมดเกือบสองชั่วโมง เป็นการเดินป่าที่สนุกสนานพร้อมการผจญภัยเล็กน้อย เปลี่ยนบรรยากาศไปจากการเดินเนิบๆอย่างทุกที 😅

Pandemic Pause: Hiking the Neusiok Trail at Pine Cliffs

Trip Date: August-September 2020

Because we weren’t comfortable having a cat sitter coming into the house to take care of our fur babies 😻 while we’re gone on a trip like we usually do because of the pandemic, we decided to instead drive back home half way through to check up on them ourselves. It was not that bad, only a couple of hours each way. Totally worth the extra peace of mind if you ask me! 😆

ปรกติเวลาไปเที่ยวหลายวันเราจะต้องจ้างคนมาดูแมวที่บ้านวันละครั้ง แต่คราวนี้คุณสามีไม่ไว้ใจว่าเค้าจะเอาเชื้อโรคเข้ามาในบ้านเรารึเปล่า คิดสะระตะแล้วเลยตัดสินใจว่าเราจะขับรถกลับบ้านมาเยี่ยมน้องแมวกันเองครึ่งทริป จริงๆแล้วก็ไม่ได้ไกลมากมายแค่สองชั่วโมงนิดๆเท่านั้นเอง เสียเวลาหน่อยแต่เพื่อซื้อความสบายใจยังไงก็คุ้ม 😆

After making sure our kitties were okay, we went back to the beach house and set out on another cool hike the next day. This time, a beach hike at Pine Cliffs Recreation Area, which is the beginning of the 20-mile long Neusiok Trail. It is also part of the infamous Mountains-to-Sea Trail, whose many sections we have hiked numerous times before!

หลังจากกลับมาที่บ้านน้อยริมแม่น้ำ วันรุ่งขึ้นเรากลับไปเดินป่ากันต่อที่ Pine Cliffs Recreation Area จะเรียกว่าเดินป่าอาจจะไม่ถูก เพราะดูแล้วจะใกล้เคียงกับการเดินชายทะเลซะมากกว่า 😆 ที่นี่เป็นเส้นทางเดินป่าที่มีชื่อว่า Neusiok Trail ซึ่งมีระยะทางกว่า 20 ไมล์ และเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของเส้นทางเดินป่าสายหลัก Mountains-to-Sea ของรัฐนี้ที่เราไปเดินกันมาหลายช่วงแล้ว แต่นี่เป็นครั้งแรกที่จะได้มาเดินช่วงใกล้ปลายทางติดทะเล

We drove to the trailhead at Pine Cliffs Recreation Area in Havelock. The area felt deserted. There was only one other car parked there when we got there. It was a little hard to figure out where the actual trail was. All we saw was debris everywhere, perhaps remnant from a recent storm? 🤔

เราไปจอดรถไว้ที่ Pine Cliffs Recreation Area ในเมือง Havelock ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ติดริมแม่น้ำ ไปถึงมีรถจอดอยู่แค่คันเดียว เดินวนอยู่นานหาทางไปไม่เจอ แถวนี้ดูแล้วรกร้างมาก มีเศษซากปรักหักพังระเนระนาดอยู่ทั่วบริเวณ ไม่แน่ใจว่าโดนหางพายุพัดกระจัดกระจายไว้ตั้งแต่เมื่อไหร่ 🤔

We finally decided to just descended down to the beach and started walking. It was amazing how the terrain here was so very different from what we had ever encountered before. This trail borders the Croatan National Forest right along the sandy beach of the Neuse River. Hiking in, we have forest to our left, and water to our right. It was such a stark contrast of landscapes, creating a very interesting ground for us to explore. 😍

สุดท้ายตัดสินใจปีนลงเนินไปที่ริมน้ำแล้วเดินเลียบชายฝั่งไปเรื่อยๆ ภูมิประเทศที่นี่เป็นอะไรที่เราไม่เคยสัมผัสมาก่อน ฝั่งซ้ายเป็นป่าทึบ Croatan National Forest ส่วนทางขวาเป็นแม่น้ำ Neuse River ที่กว้างขวางจนให้ความรู้สึกไม่ต่างไปจากทะเล เดินแล้วเหมือนกับได้ประสบการณ์แบบทูอินวันในทีเดียว 😍

There weren’t many blazes along the path. We managed to spot a few, but they weren’t very easy to locate!

เดินไปหน่อยถึงได้สังเกตเห็นหมุดปักบอกทาง แต่ก็มีอยู่แค่ไม่กี่อันเท่านั้น

We walked about a mile or so, before turning around and went back to the car. Even though there was a nice constant flow of sea breeze throughout the hike, the temperature was high in the 80s, and we were getting overheated. 🥵 All in all, we clocked in at almost exactly 2 miles, which took us just a little over an hour to finish. We met one family in the beginning, just done with the hike and heading back to their car. About half way through, we ran into another group of people setting up a tent and chilling on the beach, with their boat parked at the shore nearby. All in all, a very lightly-trafficked trail, perfect spot if you want to avoid the crowd, especially during pandemic time!

เดินไปได้ซักหนึ่งไมล์หรือประมาณกิโลครึ่งก็หันหลังเดินกลับ เพราะอากาศร้อนพอสมควร 30 กว่าองศาเซลเซียส ถึงจะมีลมทะเลพัดให้เย็นขึ้นมาหน่อย แต่แดดจัดมาก ทำเอาเหงื่อโชกไม่ใช่เล่น 🥵 สรุปแล้ววันนั้นเดินกันไป 2 ไมล์พอดิบพอดี หรือประมาณกิโลครึ่งนิดๆ ใช้เวลาทั้งหมดชั่วโมงหน่อยๆ ตอนไปถึงเจอครอบครัวนึงกำลังเดินกลับออกมาขึ้นรถ เดินไปได้ประมาณครึ่งทางไปเจออีกกรุ๊ปจอดเรือไว้ที่ชายฝั่งแล้วมานั่งกางเต้นท์ตากลมกันอยู่ สรุปแล้วเป็นทางปลอดคน เหมาะแก่การเดินป่าช่วงโควิดเป็นอย่างยิ่ง

Travel Diary: Autumn in Indy

I had a mini reunion with a couple of old friends from middle school back in October of last year. We decided to meet up in Indiana for a weekend getaway, hoping to see some beautiful autumn colors. We had tons of sightseeing planned in a few small towns near Indianapolis, but ended up actually making it to only a few places because of the rain! 😔

เมื่อเดือนตุลาคมปีที่แล้ว ก่อนที่โลกทั้งใบจะถูกเกาะกุมด้วยสถานการณ์โรคระบาดแห่งรอบศตวรรษ เราได้มีโอกาสไปร่วมรายการคืนสู่เหย้ากับเพื่อนเก่าสมัยมัธยม ตกลงไปเจอกันที่รัฐอินเดียน่าเพราะหวังว่าจะได้เห็นใบไม้เปลี่ยนสีที่นั่น ก่อนไปตระเตรียมแผนการท่องเที่ยวไว้ยาวเหยียด กะไว้ว่าจะไปตะลุยเที่ยวเมืองเล็กๆใกล้ๆกับเมือง Indianapolis แต่ปรากฎว่าเอาเข้าจริงฝนตก เที่ยวได้อยู่แค่ไม่กี่ที่ 😔

We arrived in this cute little town called Nashville at dusk, after spending the entire rainy day at an outlet nearby. It was such a picturesque place, full of adorable shops, specialty stores and art galleries. Too bad we did not have more time to walk around and explore!

เราไปถึงเมืองน่ารักแห่งนี้ที่มีชื่อว่าเมือง Nashville ก่อนใกล้ค่ำ หลังจากที่ฝนตกกระหน่ำมาเกือบครึ่งค่อนวัน เลยต้องไปช๊อปปิ้งฆ่าเวลากันที่ outlet ใกล้ๆ เสียดายที่เดินได้ไม่นานก็ค่ำ เมืองนี้มีร้านรวงหน้าตาดีอยู่หลายแห่ง ล้วนแล้วแต่ตกแต่งกันซะเก๋ไก๋เข้ากับบรรยากาศฤดูใบไม้ผลิ

We did get to see some fall foliage the next day when we popped into Brown County State Park for a quick visit. We just drove around and popped out when we spotted any photo ops potential. The leaves were a little past peak, but still beautiful nonetheless! 😍

วันรุ่งขึ้นเราแว๊บไปส่องดูใบไม้เปลี่ยนสีกันที่ Brown County State Park ด้วยความที่มีเวลาไม่มาก เลยได้แค่ขับรถวนรอบแล้วแวะจอดลงไปถ่ายรูปกันเล็กน้อย ถึงสีใบไม้จะเลยจุดสวยสุดไปแล้ว แต่โดยรวมก็ยังสวยสมใจชาวกะเหรี่ยงอย่างเราๆที่ไม่ค่อยจะมีโอกาสได้เห็นกัน 😍

On the way back, we stopped by for lunch at the Farmhouse Cafe & Tea Room at the Flower & Herb Barn, a little past Nashville en route to Indianapolis. This was such a charming little place, picture-perfect in every way. The food was simple but delicious. We did not have much time, but I managed to sneak around and snap some awesome shots of the grounds. The old farmhouse mainly serves as a restaurant, but also has an entire upstairs section that was stocked full of quaint little knickknacks. There was a cute little pond out front, a flower and plant nursery, and a barn full of unique home decor pieces in the back.

ขากลับเราแวะทานข้าวกลางวันกันที่ร้าน Farmhouse Cafe & Tea Room at the Flower & Herb Barn ซึ่งอยู่ระหว่างทางจากเมือง Nashville ก่อนถึงเมือง Indianapolis ที่นี่เป็นร้านเล็กๆน่ารัก ตกแต่งสไตล์ฟาร์มเฮ้าส์ ตัวบ้านเปิดเป็นร้านอาหารอยู่ชั้นล่าง ส่วนช้ันบนเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์ขนาดย่อมๆ มีของชิ้นเล็กชิ้นน้อยตกแต่งประดับประดาเต็มไปหมด อาหารที่นี่เป็นของจานง่ายๆ รสชาติอร่อยใช้ได้ ถึงจะมีเวลาไม่เยอะ แต่เราก็ยังอุตส่าห์เจียดเวลาไปเก็บรูปมาได้เกือบทั่ว นอกจากส่วนที่เป็นร้านอาหารแล้วยังมีสระน้ำเล็กๆอยู่ด้านหน้า ส่วนด้านหลังมีศูนย์เพาะพันธุ์ต้นไม้ดอกไม้ และโรงนาหลังโตที่เต็มไปด้วยของประดับบ้านเก่าแก่หลากหลายชนิด

Nadie, my friend’s little daughter, found herself a fluffy little furball here just outside the farmhouse. 😻

น้องณดี ลูกสาวตัวน้อยของเพื่อนเรา ไปเจอเพื่อนขนปุยตัวจิ๋วตัวนี้เดินเตร็ดเตร่อยู่ข้างๆร้าน 😻

We ended up spending our evening at the Central Canal area, where we rented a family bike and pedaled all the way around the canal and back. This thing looked easy until you actually got on it and realized it was a whole lot harder than you thought! 😓 At one point when we got to a small incline, we got stuck, until a kind gentleman gave us a helping hand with a gentle little shove. 😊 By the time we returned the bike, an hour later, my knees buckled when I got off of it! 😝

เย็นนั้นเราขับรถกลับไปที่เมือง Indianapolis ไปเดินเที่ยวกันที่ย่าน Central Canal เพื่อนเราตาดีไปเห็นเค้าให้เช่าจักรยานไว้ปั่นรอบคลอง เลยตกลงไปลองกันดู ดูคนอื่นเค้าปั่นกันก็ไม่เห็นยากเย็นอะไร แต่พอขึ้นไปนั่งถึงได้รู้ว่ามันไม่ได้ง่ายๆอย่างที่คิดไว้ 😓 ปั่นกันไปได้ประมาณครึ่งคลอง ไปเจอทางลาดขึ้นเขา เราสี่สาวเกิดอาการติดหล่ม ปั่นยังไงก็ไปไม่ขึ้น จนสุดท้ายเจอพี่ผู้ชายใจดีมาช่วยดันถึงไปต่อกันได้ 😊 กว่าจะปั่นครบรอบคลานลงจากจักรยานถึงกับเข่าอ่อนไปตามๆกัน 😝

Ended the perfect day with some yummie ice cream from BRICS.

We started the next morning with a brunch stop at City Market.

วันรุ่งขึ้นเราแวะไปทานข้าวมื้อเช้ากันที่ City Market

Then we headed over for a short stroll along Massachusetts Avenue, which, being one of the original streets in town, is considered a historic district. Even though many businesses were closed on a lazy Monday morning, we found a pretty vibrant arts scene, and several old buildings intermingling with more modern establishments. It was a perfect end to our short trip, right before we headed to the airport for the flights back home.

Saturday Hike: Morgan Creek Trail & Merritt’s Pasture

This weekend we ventured out to Chapel Hill to a couple of trails I read about recently on WRAL that we’ve never heard of before. We pulled into a very small parking lot off of NC 54 and Fordham Boulevard, and were able to grab the last available spot there.

เมื่อวันเสาร์ที่แล้ว เราไปบุกเบิกเส้นทางเดินป่าแห่งใหม่ที่เมือง Chapel Hill หลังจากไปอ่านเจอเค้าแนะนำไว้ในหนังสือพิมพ์ WRAL ซึ่งเป็นสื่อท้องถิ่นของที่นี่ เลี้ยวเข้าไปถึงที่จอดรถจากถนนสาย NC 54 และถนน Fordham Boulevard มีที่เหลือไว้เป็นที่สุดท้ายพอดี

We weren’t really sure where to go since we had not been there before. Just on a whim, we decided to cross the bridge then veered left on to a dirt trail that looks promisingly secluded. That took us along the creek. A few stones steps were laid there to take you across a narrow section of the creek into a more wooded area. There were a few offshoot paths that you could take to go down and explore the creek more closely.

ลงจากรถไม่ค่อยแน่ใจว่าควรเดินไปทางไหนแน่ เลยสุ่มเอาเดินข้ามสะพานแล้วเลี้ยวซ้ายไปบนทางลูกรังที่ดูไม่ค่อยมีคน ทางพาเราเดินเลียบริมห้วย จากนั้นจึงไปเจอสะพานเล็กๆเป็นก้อนหินเรียงไว้ให้ข้ามไปอีกฝั่งซึ่งดูเป็นป่าขึ้นมาหน่อย ตามข้างทางมีแยกเล็กๆให้ลงไปสำรวจริมห้วยได้อย่างใกล้ชิด

We took the dirt path to the point where it seemed to end abruptly with a couple of huge downed trees. From there we turned back and figured we would check out another small path we saw on our left when heading in. It was a very narrow trail, hardly a foot in width, and would be very easy to miss if you are not a seasoned hiker 😎. This took us deep into the woods. It was obvious that it had been quite a while since anybody had been on this route, since we walked into tons of spider webs along the way! 😓

สุดทางเดินลูกรังมีต้นไม้ใหญ่ล้มขวางทางอยู่ คุณสามีไปด้อมๆมองๆดูแล้วบอกว่าไปต่อไม่ได้ต้องวกกลับ แต่ขาไปอุตส่าห์เหลือบไปเห็นทางแยกเล็กๆซ่อนอยู่ทางซ้ายมือ เลยลองลุยไปกันดู ทางเส้นนี้แคบมาก เดินได้ทีละคน พาเราเดินเข้าป่าลึก ดูจากปริมาณการถากถางไยแมงมุมแล้วคาดว่าคงไม่มีใครมาเดินกันแถวนี้นานพอสมควร 😓

Just when I was starting to get a little worried 😐, not sure where the trail was taking us, we rounded a bend and ran into more downed trees… I recognized almost immediately that these were the same ones we encountered before, from the other side! We ducked under and emerged right where we turned back just a moment ago. We realized later on that this was not part of the official trails that we were planning on taking. But it turned out to be our most favorite part of the hike that day! 😆

พอจะเริ่มกังวลเล็กน้อยว่าเอ ทางมันจะพาเราเข้าป่าไปถึงไหน 😐 ก็ปรากฎไปเจอะกับต้นไม้ใหญ่ล้มขวางทางอยู่ข้างหน้า ดูแล้วหน้าตาคุ้นๆ อ๋อ มันต้นเดียวกับไอ้ต้นเมื่อกี๊ที่เห็นนี่นา แต่เราเลี้ยวอ้อมมาอีกฝั่งนึง คราวนี้เลยมุดใต้ลำต้นไปโผล่อีกด้านไปเจอกับทางเมื่อซักครู่ที่เราวกกลับไปกัน สรุปแล้วเลยเข้าใจว่าทางที่เราเลือกมากันนี้คงไม่ใช่ทางที่เค้าแนะนำมาในหนังสือพิมพ์ แต่กลายเป็นว่าเป็นการผจญภัยที่นับได้ว่าเป็นไฮไลต์ของการเดินป่าในวันนั้น 😆

From there, we walked back towards the bridge, then took the trail the other way, onto the official Morgan Creek Trail. This was the opposite end from Merritt’s Pasture. It was only a short distance from the bridge until it ended at a nearby apartment complex. Towards the end you’ll have to scale this giant pipe in order to cross the creek, which added to the fun! 😛

จากที่นั่น เราเดินกลับไปยังจุดเริ่มต้นที่ปลายสะพาน แล้วเลี้ยวไปอีกทางซึ่งมีป้ายบอกไว้อย่างเป็นทางการว่าเป็น Morgan Creek Trail ตามที่เค้าแนะนำมา ทางนี้เป็นอีกด้านซึ่งตรงข้ามกับช่วงที่ไปจรดกับทุ่ง Merritt’s Pasture เดินไปไม่ไกลก็ไปสุดทางที่อพาร์ทเม้นท์คอมเพลกซ์ แต่ก่อนถึงต้องเดินทรงตัวข้ามท่อประปาที่เห็นในรูปกันก่อน สร้างความสนุกสนานเพลิดเพลินกันไปอีกแบบ 😛

After that we walked back to the parking lot and went the other way on Morgan Creek Trail, heading towards Merritt’s Pasture. You can either take the nicely paved path, or a side unpaved trail that cut through a couple of its sections. We opted for the latter to avoid the crowd.

จากนั้นเราเดินกลับไปยังที่จอดรถกันอีกครั้ง คราวนี้เราเดินไปอีกทางที่มีป้ายบอกไว้ว่าเป็น Morgan Creek Trail และจะนำเราไปสู่ทุ่ง Merritt’s Pasture ซึ่งช่วงนี้สามารถเลือกเดินเป็นทางราดคอนกรีต หรือทางดินที่เลียบไปกับพงหญ้า เราเลยเลือกทางหญ้าซึ่งดูแล้วไม่ค่อยมีคนกว่า

The trail takes you under Highway 15-501. It got really pretty as we approached the pasture from all the pretty fall colors that’s just starting to come in.

ทางดินมาบรรจบกับทางคอนกรีตอีกครั้ง และนำเราลอดใต้สะพานซึ่งเป็นถนนไฮเวย์สาย 15-501 ยิ่งใกล้ทุ่งทางก็ยิ่งสวย เพราะต้นไม้ข้างทางเริ่มจะเปลี่ยนสีต้อนรับฤดูใบไม้ผลิกันพอดี

At one point we spotted a large creature flying above our head. Joel called out that it was a turkey vulture. I looked up to locate it and realized they were having quite a party going on. 😆 Spreading across a few trees, we counted almost 30 of them up there. 😳 It was quite a sight to behold, to say the least! 😅

ก่อนถึงทุ่งเล็กน้อยเหลือบไปเห็นนกอะไรบินผ่านเหนือหัว คุณสามีบอกว่าเป็นอีแร้งที่เค้าเรียกกันว่า turkey vulture เงยหน้าขึ้นไปมองบนต้นไม้ปรากฎว่ามีเกาะอยู่เป็นฝูง นับดูแล้วเกือบ 30 ตัวได้ 😳 ดูแล้วน่าขนลุก ไม่รู้ว่ามาประชุมอะไรกัน 😅

We finally reached Merritt’s Pasture and set out to take the 3-quarter-mile loop clockwise. It was a beautiful day and a lot of people were lounging around in the pasture enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. We spotted a couple picnicking and a couple of groups doing a photo shoot. Fortunately the trail itself was not that crowded. We only ran into a few people before we completed the loop.

ไปถึงทุ่ง Merritt’s Pasture มีทางวงแหวนให้เดินรอบทุ่ง วันนั้นอากาศอุ่นสบายกำลังดี มีคนมานั่งนอนอาบแดดกันไม่น้อย เดินครึ่งทางไปเจอหนุ่มสาวกำลังปิคนิคกินแซนด์วิชกันอยู่บนม้านั่ง วกไปอีกหน่อยมีอีกคู่กำลังแอ๊คท่าให้ช่างภาพถ่ายรูปอยู่กลางทุ่ง ดีที่ทางที่เราเดินไม่ค่อยมีคน วนจนครบรอบเจอสวนกันอยู่แค่ไม่กี่คนเท่านั้น

We found traces of cotton on the ground during the first quarter. There was a cute bench equipped with a bell and a bird house in the middle, courtesy of the Merritts Family. Then, the trail went into a more wooded area before emerging right next to the creek and looped back to where we started off from.

ระหว่างทางเดินมีเศษปุยฝ้ายร่วงอยู่ประปรายบนพื้นดิน เดินไปประมาณค่อนข้างเจอม้านั่งหน้าตาประหลาด ประดับไปด้วยระฆังเล็กๆอยู่ฝั่งนึง และบ้านนกน้อยหลังจิ๋วอยู่อีกฝั่ง ป้ายที่พื้นข้างหน้าบอกไว้ว่าเป็นอภินันทนาการจากครอบครัวตระกูล Merritt ตามชื่อทุ่งหญ้า หลังจากนั้นทางวกเข้าป่าทึบ ก่อนจะไปบรรจบกับลำห้วยเจ้าเก่าอีกครั้ง แล้วจึงวกกลับไปยังจุดที่เราเริ่มออกเดินทาง

All in all, we clocked in at 3.60 miles, which took us about an hour and a half to complete. By the time we got back to the parking lot, there were tons of cars lining up the side of the road, squeezing in wherever they could. While this was a cool spot, we doubted we will ever come back due to the crowd. 😕 But it’d be a great hike for someone who can wake up early and get there before the crowd!

วันนั้นเดินกันไป 3.60 ไมล์ หรือประมาณเกือบๆ 6 กิโล ใช้เวลาทั้งหมดชั่วโมงครึ่งพอดี กว่าจะกลับไปถึงที่จอดรถปรากฎว่ามีรถจอดกันจนล้นลาน ช่วงโควิดระบาดดูแล้วที่นี่ไม่ค่อยจะน่าเดินซักเท่าไหร่ เพราะคนเยอะเกิน 😕 สำหรับคนชอบตื่นเช้าๆอาจจะเวิร์ค แต่พวกเราคงไม่มีโอกาสจะได้กลับมาเยือนในอนาคตอันใกล้นี้
