Mushrooms Are Back in Business!

After several months with no rain, we finally got a really good soak late last week, and I’m happy to report that the mushroom populations in this part of NC are back in full force! 🥳

หลายเดือนมานี้อากาศที่นี่แห้งแล้งมาก ฝนแทบจะไม่มีตกมาให้เห็นเลยซักหยด แถวนี้ไม่มีเห็ดโผล่มาให้เห็นอยู่นานมาก จนมาอาทิตย์ที่แล้วที่ได้พายุมาโหมกระหน่ำกันจนชุ่มฉ่ำไปทั่วท้องที่ และแล้วในที่สุดประชากรเห็ดจึงได้ฤกษ์กลับมาเยือนถิ่นฐานบ้านเราอีกครั้ง 🥳

On Saturday, I went on my regular walk on the Cary Greenway near the house. I could not believe the number of mushrooms I found along the way. I spent almost 2 hours out looking and finding one mushroom after another. I was gone so long that my husband started to get worried! 😆

บ่ายวันเสาร์เราไปออกสำรวจบริเวณทางเดินใกล้ๆบ้านที่ปรกติไปเดินกันอยู่เป็นประจำ แทบไม่น่าเชื่อในช่วงเวลาเพียงแค่ไม่กี่วันเท่านั้น เห็ดขึ้นมาอย่างชุกชุมไปทั่วบริเวณ ยิ่งส่องก็ยิ่งเจอ เดินหาจนเพลินอยู่เกือบสองชั่วโมงได้จนคุณสามีต้องโทรตาม เพราะนึกว่าหายไปไหน 😆

All these, in exchange for about 15 mosquito bites found along the exposed parts of my arms and legs the next day 😓, still worth it if you ask me! 😆

วันรุ่งขึ้นตื่นมาเจอรอยแดงเต็มตัว นับดูแล้วปรากฎว่าแขนและขาตกเป็นอาหารยุงไปประมาณ 15 ตุ่มได้ 😓 แต่แลกกับจำนวนเห็ดที่ไปเห็น เราว่าก็ยังคุ้มอยู่ดี 😆

We decided to push our luck on Sunday, venturing further out for a hike at Jordan Lake. It was considerably hotter, but we managed to complete the 3-mile loop on the New Hope Trail. The forest here was a little drier than what I had seen on the greenway the day before. Even though we did not find any CoW like we hoped to, but still, there was a variety of mushrooms in all colors, shapes, and sizes to be seen along the way. 😍

วันอาทิตย์เราตัดสินใจไปเดินป่ากันอย่างจริงจังที่ Jordan Lake ด้วยความหวังว่าจะได้เจอเห็ดอีก ทั้งๆที่อากาศร้อนจัด แต่เราก็ยังอุตส่าห์ฮึดเดินจนครบรอบ 3 ไมล์บนเส้น New Hope Trail ที่ปีที่แล้วไปเจอเห็ดไก่ป่ากันมา ป่าแถบนี้ดูจะแห้งแล้วกว่าตรงแถวบ้าน สุดท้ายถึงจะไม่เจอเห็ดไก่ป่า แต่ก็ยังมีเห็ดอื่นๆหลายสีหลายขนาดให้เห็นเต็มไปหมด 😍

The highlight of the day was this beautiful flush of golden trumpets, found on a moss-covered fallen log. 😍

สุดยอดของวันนั้นเห็นจะเป็นกอเห็ด golden trumpet ดงเบ้อเร่ออันนี้ซึ่งขึ้นอยู่บนขอนไม้ที่ปกคลุมไปด้วยหญ้าสีเขียวสวยตัดกันกับสีส้มอร่ามของเห็ดพอดิบพอดี 😍

This little family of White Chicken mushrooms, all grown around the base of the same tree, came in a close second! 😇

ถัดมาก็ต้องยกให้ครอบครัวเห็ดไก่ขาวกลุ่มนี้ ซึ่งขึ้นอยู่รอบโคนต้นไม้ต้นเดียวกัน 😇

We even went back on the greenway one more time today, to check on the flushes of oysters I spotted the other day. Besides discovering that one had turned into a clump of yellow rags 🤯, we found even more mushrooms that I had not seen the last time I came.

มาวันนี้อดไม่ได้ต้องกลับไปดูเห็ดนางฟ้าที่ไปเจอมาเมื่อวันก่อนแถวบ้านว่าโตขึ้นมาเท่าไหร่แล้ว ไปถึงปรากฎว่ากอนึงหลายเป็นสีเหลืองอร่าม ดูไกลๆเหมือนใครเอาผ้าสีทองไปห้อยไว้อยู่บนต้นไม้ 🤯 ไปแล้วก็ไม่เสียเที่ยว เพราะวันนี้มีเห็ดใหม่ๆผุดขึ้นมาให้เห็นอีกหลายดอก

…including this cute one that look exactly like somebody dropped a pancake on the forest floor! 😆

Travel Diary: The Ultimate Fall Foliage in New England, Day 7

Trip Date: October 2022

วันสัญจร: ตุลาคม 2565

The next morning, we said goodbye to Hyde Away Inn, our budget but efficient lodging for the past three nights, and headed towards our last location of the trip – Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้น เราเช็คเอาท์จากที่พักที่ Hyde Away Inn โรงแรมขนาดเล็กกะทัดรัดราคาย่อมเยาที่นอนสบายๆกันมาสามคืน แล้วจึงมุ่งหน้าไปยังจุดหมายปลายทางสุดท้ายของทริปนี้ที่เมือง Portsmouth ในรัฐนิวแฮมเชียร์

First stop along the way at Moss Glen Falls in Stowe. This was a short drive from the main Route 100, and also a very quick quarter-mile hike to the falls.

ระหว่างทางไปแวะกันที่น้ำตก Moss Glen ในเมือง Stowe ที่นี่เลี้ยวจากทางหลวงสายหลักเส้น 100 เข้ามานิดเดียว พอจอดรถปุ๊บเดินไปไม่ถึงห้านาทีก็เจอตัวน้ำตก

Next stop – Woodstock, Vermont. The whole town was radiating full-blown falls spirits. 🎃

ต่อไปเป็นเมือง Woodstock ในรัฐเวอร์มอนท์ เดินชมแล้วได้บรรยากาศฤดูใบไม้ผลิมาแบบเต็มๆ 🎃

Naturally, we had to check out Sleepy Hollow Farm in Pomfret, which was labeled as ‘the most photogenic farm in Vermont’ – and we could totally see why. 😍 Apparently, we made it there just in time, as the town officials announced shortly after our visit that road access to the farm will be closed to non-resident traffic during the peak Falls season, from mid September to mid October due to overtourism. 😔

จุดนี้ที่ใครๆว่าพลาดไม่ได้ก็คือฟาร์ม Sleepy Hollow ในเมือง Pomfret ในอินเตอร์เนตบอกว่าเป็นฟาร์มที่ถ่ายรูปออกมาแล้วสวยที่สุดในรัฐเวอร์มอนท์ ไปเห็นกับตาแล้วต้องยอมยกนิ้วให้เค้าจริงๆ 😍 แต่เพิ่งมาอ่านเจอเมื่อเร็วๆนี้ว่า หลังจากที่เราไปไม่นาน เทศบาลประจำเมืองเค้าออกมาประกาศห้ามนักท่องเที่ยวจากต่างเมืองขับรถผ่านถนนเส้นนี้ช่วงฤดูใบไม้ผลิระหว่างกลางเดือนกันยาไปถึงกลางเดือนตุลา เพราะไปจอดรถถ่ายรูปกันแล้วทำความเดือดร้อนให้กับชาวบ้านแถวนั้น 😔

We made it to our last destination of the trip in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, just after 5 pm, and got time for a quick stroll around this picturesque seaside town before our 7:30 pm dinner reservation.

และแล้วก็มาถึงเมือง Portsmouth รัฐนิวแฮมเชียร์ หลัง 5 โมงเย็นนิดๆ พอมีเวลาให้ไปเดินเล่นชมวิวก่อนเวลาอาหารเย็นที่จองไว้ตอนทุ่มครึ่งพอดี

Cure Restaurant served us one of the best meals of our trip for dinner that night. 🥰

ร้านอาหาร Cure ร้านนี้อาหารอร่อยที่สุดเท่าที่กินมาทั้งหมดทริปนี้ 🥰

We packed our bags and headed home to our significant others the next morning, but not before taking a goodbye stroll around the part of Portsmouth we didn’t get to see the night before.

เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้นก็ได้เวลาเก็บกระเป๋ากลับบ้านกันซักที แต่หลังเช็คเอาท์แล้วยังมีเวลาเหลือนิดหน่อย เลยชวนกันไปเดินเก็บรูปตรงละแวกที่เมื่อวานเดินไปไม่ถึงก่อนค่อยออกเดินทาง

All in all, I’d say we did pretty great for a couple of first-timers, on our New England Falls Foliage trip! 😉

สรุปว่าทริปนี้ประสบความสำเร็จตรงตามเป้าหมาย ได้มาเห็นใบไม้เปลี่ยนสีสวยๆอย่างที่ตั้งใจไว้ และหวังว่าจะได้กลับมาเยี่ยมเยียนเมืองสวยๆแถวนี้กันอีกถ้าโอกาสอำนวย 😉

Travel Diary: The Ultimate Fall Foliage in New England, Day 6

On our last full day in Vermont, we started off with a quick snap at Hartshorn’s Organic Farm Stand in Waitsfield on our way to Vermont’s capital, Montpelier.

วันนี้อยู่รัฐเวอร์มอนท์เป็นวันสุดท้ายแล้ว ก่อนอื่นไปแวะถ่ายรูปกันที่ Hartshorn’s Organic Farm Stand ที่เมือง Waitsfield ระหว่างทางไปเยือนเมืองหลวงของรัฐนี้ซึ่งก็คือเมือง Montpelier

First stop, Vermont State House.

ไปถึงก็ไปเยี่ยมศาลาว่าการรัฐเวอร์มอนท์กันเป็นที่แรก

Strolling around downtown Montpelier.

จากนั้นจึงไปเดินเล่นชมวิวในตัวเมือง Montpelier

Aerial view of the beautiful town from the Cliff Street neighborhood – love these warning signs we found literally around every corner! 😻 Too bad we didn’t spot any feline friends on the prowl. 😸

เดินขึ้นเขาไปชมวิวเมืองจากเบื้องสูงที่ชุมชน Cliff Street ไปเจอป้ายระวังแมวข้ามถนน เตือนให้คนขับรถช้าๆติดไว้เต็มไปหมด 😻 เสียดายไม่มีแมวมาให้เห็นเป็นๆซักตัว 😸

Hope Cemetery in Barre was one of the most beautiful cemeteries I have ever visited. So many unique tombstones & memorials at this final resting place in the ‘Granite Capital of the World’ that prides itself in the superb stone arts craftsmanship! 🥰

สุสาน Hope Cemetery ในเมือง Barre เป็นหนึ่งในจำนวนสุสานที่น่าประทับใจที่สุดเท่าที่เคยเห็นมา ป้ายหน้าหลุมศพที่นี่แต่ละอันผิดแปลกแหวกแนวไปจากที่เราเห็นกันทั่วๆไป สมชื่อที่เป็น ‘ศูนย์กลางแหล่งหินแกรนิตของโลก’ และมีช่างหินฝีมือดีประจำอยู่หลายราย 🥰

We wrapped up the day with a rainy, but beautiful drive back to town. 😍

Dinner was at Prohibition Pig in Waterbury. We had been trying to get in there for the past few days, and finally made it on our last night in the area! 🥳

มื้อเย็นวันนั้นไปกินกันที่ร้าน Prohibition Pig ในเมือง Waterbury ร้านนี้ตั้งใจมากินหลายวันแล้ว แต่จองไม่ได้ซักที อุตส่าห์มาได้กินคืนสุดท้ายก่อนกลับพอดี 🥳

We started off our next morning with delicious cups of coffee from Vermont Artisan Coffee & Tea in Waterbury.

เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้นก่อนอื่นเราไปแวะจิบกาแฟหอมๆที่ Vermont Artisan Coffee & Tea ในเมือง Waterbury กันเป็นอันดับแรก

Followed by a quick selfie with this Eagle Sculpture by Martin McGowan, on Vermont Route 100.

จากนั้นไปแวะถ่ายรูปกับรูปปั้นนกอินทรีย์ฝีมือศิลปินชาวเวอร์มอนท์ชื่อคุณ Martin McGowan ซึ่งตั้งอยู่บนทางหลวงสาย 100 ของรัฐเวอร์มอนท์

Quickly followed by a factory tour at Ben & Jerry’s, which wrapped up with a complimentary scoop of their famous ice cream. 😋 (No photography allowed inside!)

ตามมาติดๆด้วยทัวร์โรงงานไอศครีม Ben & Jerry’s ซึ่งข้างในห้ามถ่ายภาพ แต่พอเสร็จทัวร์มีไอติมให้ชิมฟรีกันคนละก้อน 😋

After the tour, we checked out their Flavor Graveyard, where old, discontinued flavors are ‘laid to rest’ so they could ‘keep their sweet memories alive’, as quoted from their website.

ด้านนอกเค้าจัดเป็นสุสานไอศครีมที่ตั้งไว้เป็นอนุสรณ์สำหรับรสไอศครีมที่เลิกผลิตไปแล้ว

We then stopped by Cold Hollow Cider Mill, just 5 minute north on Route 100 for a taste of freshly-pressed apple cider.

ต่อไปเราไปแวะชิมน้ำแอปเปิ้ลคั้นสดๆกันที่ Cold Hollow Cider Mill โรงผลิตน้ำแอปเปิ้ลไซเดอร์แห่งนี่ตั้งอยู่ถัดไปบนทางหลวงสาย 100 อยู่ห่างจากโรงงานไอติมแค่ 5 นาทีเท่านั้น

And a sample flight of ‘hard’ cider. 😛

ต่อด้วยน้ำผลไม้ ‘หมัก’ กันบ้าง 😛

Another unplanned stop, for yet another cute red barn. 😊

ไปเจอโรงนาสีแดงอีกแห่งจนได้ เลยจำเป็นต้องแวะถ่ายรูปกันอีกรอบ 😊

We did not get to ride any gondolas at Stowe Mountain Resort, because they were completely sold out for the day when we got there. 😕 But, after getting stuck in traffic for more than half an hour, just waiting to turn into the parking lot, we sure did grab some nice shots there before heading out. 😇

ไปถึง Stowe Mountain Resort ปรากฎว่าอดนั่งกอนโดลาเพราะตั๋วเค้าขายไปหมดแล้ว 😕 แต่ไหนๆก็ยอมรถติดอยู่เกือบตั้งครึ่งค่อนชั่วโมงกว่าจะมาถึงนี่ เลยต้องแวะถ่ายรูปให้คุ้มก่อนค่อยไป 😇

Since it was already so late in the afternoon, we abandoned our planned hikes at Smugglers’ Notch State Park, and headed right over to Boyden Valley Winery & Spirits, which advertises for ‘the best maple creme liquers’ in town.

ตอนแรกว่าจะไปเดินป่ากันที่ Smugglers’ Notch State Park แต่กว่าจะออกมาก็ปาเข้าไปบ่ายคล้อยแล้ว เลยเปลี่ยนแผนตรงดิ่งไปที่ Boyden Valley Winery & Spirits แทน ที่นี่เค้าโฆษณาว่ามีเหล้าครีมเมเปิลที่อร่อยมี่สุดในละแวกนี้ไว้ให้ชิม

Since we skipped lunch, in the (failed) attempt to make it to the Gondola Sky Ride before they closed, we quickly snacked on a charcuterie board, to accompany our wines. 😊

เพราะว่ามัวแต่รีบจะไป (ไม่ได้) นั่งกอนโดลา เลยไม่มีเวลาแวะกินกลางวัน เลยขอสั่งกับแกล้มมากินกับเหล้าเอาให้อยู่ท้องเล็กน้อยแทน 😊

Some pretty yellows at Mills Riverside Park in Jericho. We were looking everywhere for this pretty red covered bridge we saw a picture of online before getting there. Finally, we came to realize that the bridge must have been replaced with a plain wooden regular open-styled one 🙄 at some point prior to our visit 😐, but we could still see the remnants of some red at the very edge.

ตั้งใจไปแวะที่ Mills Riverside Park ในเมือง Jericho เพราะไปเห็นรูปสะพานคลุมหลังคาสีแดงสวยที่มีคนมาโพสต์ไว้ในอินเตอร์เนต แต่ไปเดินหายังไงก็ไม่เจอ ปรากฎว่าคุณนายหยกตาดีไปเห็นขอบแดงๆตรงสะพานไม้สไตล์บ้านๆ 🙄 ที่เห็นในรูป เลยถึงบางอ้อว่าเค้าคงรื้อสะพานแดงของเราทิ้งไปซะแล้วนั่นเอง 😐

Our last stop of the day was at Chittenden Mills, an old red mill in Jericho. They really seem to have an endless supply of red mills and barns here in Vermont! 🤣 Not that I am complaining, but… 😉

จุดแวะสุดท้ายของวันนั้นคือ Chittenden Mills โรงสีเก่าแก่ในเมือง Jericho ชาวบ้านรัฐเวอร์มอนท์แถวนี้เค้าชอบทาสีโรงต่างๆเป็นสีแดงกันจริง 🤣 เลยประจวบเหมาะมาเป็นวิวสวยๆให้เราได้ถ่ายรูปกันเพลินๆ 😉

Travel Diary: The Ultimate Fall Foliage in New England, Day 4

Our first stop the next day was in Littleton, this pretty little town 😍 which sits right at the New Hampshire-Vermont border. We had fun snapping away in their very colorful downtown area, right next to the Connecticut River.

วันรุ่งขึ้นเราไปแวะเที่ยวเมือง Littleton กันเป็นอันดับแรก เมืองจิ๋วแต่แจ๋ว 😍 แห่งนี้ตั้งอยู่ที่ชายแดนฝั่งตะวันตกของรัฐนิวแฮมเชียร์ด้านที่ติดกับรัฐเวอร์มอนท์ ที่ไปเก็บภาพสีสวยมานั่นคือย่านดาวน์ทาวน์ซึ่งมีแม่น้ำ Connecticut ตัดผ่าน

Next came our wackiest stop of the trip – Dog Chapel, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. According to their website, this iconic chapel was built in the year 2000, ‘to symbolize peace, love, and remembrance’

ต่อไปเป็นที่เที่ยวแหวกแนวที่เค้าตั้งชื่อไว้ว่า Dog Chapel ตั้งอยู่ที่เมือง St. Johnsbury ในรัฐเวอร์มอนท์ ตามเวบไซต์เค้าอธิบายว่าวิหารหมาแห่งนี้สร้างขึ้นในปี 2000 เพื่อเป็นสัญลักษณ์แห่งความรัก ความสุขสงบ และความทรงจำที่ดีๆ

Inside the chapel, the walls were completely covered with photos of canine friends 🐶 who had crossed over the rainbow bridge 🌈, each accompanied with a personal message from their human besties. It was bittersweet, but totally beautiful. 🥹

บนผนังด้านในของตัวโบสถ์เต็มไปด้วยรูปภาพของน้องหมา 🐶 จำนวนนับไม่ถ้วนที่เจ้าของเอามาแปะไว้ หมาน้อยเหล่านี้ล้วนแล้วแต่เป็นหมาที่จากโลกนี้ไปแล้ว ฝรั่งเค้าว่ามันถูกส่งข้ามสะพานสายรุ้ง 🌈 ไปอยู่อีกฝั่งนึง นอกจากรูปแล้ว เจ้าของแต่ละรายยังเขียนข้อความกำกับไว้รำลึกถึงเพื่อนรักที่จากไป อ่านดูแล้วน้ำตาจะร่วงแทน 🥹

So many dog-themed decors in their gift shop, right next to the chapel. 🥰

ร้านขายของที่ระลึกข้างโบสถ์มีของตกแต่งแนวหมาๆไว้วางขายเต็มไปหมด 🥰

We said goodbye to Dog Chapel and headed deeper into Vermont with Stowe as our destination, but couldn’t resist stopping by for a photo op with this pretty red barn in Wolcott. 😊

ถ่ายรูปที่ Dog Chapel จนเต็มอิ่มแล้วเราก็มุ่งหน้าต่อไปที่จุดหมายปลายทางของวันนี้คือเมือง Stowe ในรัฐเวอร์มอนท์ แต่ระหว่างทางแอบไปเห็นโรงนาสีแดงในรูปที่เมือง Wolcott เลยต้องแวะจอดถ่ายรูปกัน 😊

Lunch was Austrian-German food at von Trapp Brewery & Bierhall in Stowe, Vermont. Yes, this is that same von Trapp family whose story inspired the world-famous Broadway musical, movie & theme song – The Sound of Music 🎶 that everybody knows! We waited out for the rain 🌧 to stop, sipping on a couple of their seasonal lagers, while enjoying the perfect view from our cozy little table.

ไปถึงเมือง Stowe ก็แวะทานอาหารกลางวันกันก่อนเลยที่ von Trapp Brewery & Bierhall ถ้าเกิดรู้สึกคุ้นชื่อก็เป็นเพราะว่านี่คือครอบครัววอนแทรปชื่อดังจากหนังเรื่อง The Sound of Music 🎶 นั่นเอง นั่งกินข้าวอยู่ฝนก็ตกลงมาปรอยๆ 🌧 เลยนั่งละเลียดจิบเบียร์ชมวิวสวยๆไปเพลินๆจนฝนหยุดถึงได้ไปต่อกัน

After snapping a few shots right outside the brewery, we proceeded to check out the farm & lodge parts of the property. Since there was a distinct sign that said only registered guests were allowed inside 😕, we had to get by with capturing it from out front. 😛

ออกมาแวะถ่ายรูปหลังร้านเสร็จค่อยแวะไปดูส่วนที่เป็นฟาร์มกับที่พักของเค้า ตอนแรกกะว่าจะเดินเข้าไปถ่ายรูปโรงแรมเค้าใกล้ๆ แต่ดันมีป้ายติดไว้ว่า ไม่ใช่แขกห้ามเข้า 😕 ก็เลยเก็บภาพได้จากมุมไกลๆข้างนอกแทน 😛

Pre-trip research told us that the best view of Stowe can be captured from the Tangerine & Olive gift shop, located right at the edge of town. And that’s exactly where we got these awesome shots from. 🥰

ก่อนไปเราค้นคว้ามาอย่างละเอียดลออว่าถ้าอยากได้ภาพวิวสวยๆของเมือง Stowe อย่างที่เห็นมาในอินเตอร์เนต ต้องไปยืนถ่ายจากร้านขายของที่ระลึกชื่อ Tangerine & Olive ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ตรงทำเลดีนอกตัวเมือง และเราก็ไปเก็บภาพสวยๆที่เห็นนี้มาตรงตามคำแนะนำเป๊ะๆ 🥰

Our last stop of the day was by popular demand from my dear husband, whose favorite brewery was right there in Stowe, Vermont – The Alchemist! 🍻

ที่แวะแห่งสุดท้ายของวันนั้นคือโรงเบียร์ The Alchemist อันนี้คุณสามีขอมาเอง เป็นเบียร์ยี่ห้อโปรดของแกที่หาซื้อไม่ได้ทั่วไป เพราะเค้าขายแค่เฉพาะในบริเวณรัฐแถบนี้เท่านั้น 🍻

So, there was an interesting backstory behind these two photos… 😛 Somehow, we missed all the signs posted inside the brewery 🙄 that outdoor beer drinking can only be done by the purchasing of individual cans sold separately outside. 😬 We proceeded to buy our four-packs from inside the brewery, headed straight outside, picked our chairs, whipped out a can each of their best seller, the Heady Topper, and sipped ourselves away… Not even 2 minutes later, this lady approached and graciously let us know their strict brewery rule. 😓 She took away our opened cans, which we had literally enjoyed just one, maybe two sips out of. We had to go over to the little outdoor booth, and purchase another two cans for continued outdoor consumption. 🤪 We figured, we might as well try a different flavor, hence the Sterk Wit as seen in the second pic above! 😆 BUT, they were really nice about the whole ordeal. They kindly refilled our four-packs with new unopened cans of the Heady Topper, free of charge! 😍 And that explains why our smiles were so much bigger and brighter in the first picture up there… 🙄 😝

สองรูปสุดท้ายนี้มีที่มาที่ไปเล็กน้อย 😛 คือป้ากะเหรี่ยงสองคนเดินเข้าไปซื้อเบียร์กระป๋องสี่แพ๊ค จะเอากลับบ้านไปฝากคุณสามี แล้วก็กะว่าจะไปแอบชิมดูซักคนละกระป๋องว่ามันอร่อยสมคำร่ำลือจริงมั้ย ซื้อเสร็จเดินออกมาปรากฎว่ามองไม่เห็นป้ายที่เค้าแปะไว้ตรงประตู 🙄 บอกลูกค้าว่าเบียร์ที่ซื้อเป็นแพ๊คห้ามเอาไปบริโภคด้านนอก ถ้าจะดื่มให้ไปซื้อเอาที่บูธข้างนอกที่เค้าขายเป็นกระป๋องรายปลีก (ก็ไอ้กระป๋องเดียวกันนี่แหละ แต่เอามาแกะขายเป็นอันๆแทนที่จะเป็นแพ๊คสี่) ออกไปหาทำเลนั่งได้ก็งัดกระป๋องเบียร์รส Heady Topper อันสีดำ ซึ่งเป็นเบียร์ชื่อดังที่สุดของเค้ามาจิบแบบชิลๆ ดูวิว เม้าท์มอยกันไปตามเรื่อง จิบไปได้ไม่กี่คำมีป้าเจ้าหน้าที่เดินมาประกบ 😓 บอกว่าต้องขอยึดเบียร์ที่กินอยู่ เพราะตามกฎแล้วห้ามเอาเบียร์จากแพ๊คมาเปิดกิน สรุปว่าเลยต้องจำนน เดินไปซื้อกระป๋องใหม่ที่เป็นอันๆจากบูธมากินแทน 🤪 ไหนๆต้องซื้อใหม่แล้วเลยเลือกรสใหม่เป็น Sterk Wit อันสีส้มมาชิมซะเลย 😆 แต่ป้าแกก็เป็นคนดีอยู่ อุตส่าห์ไปเอาเบียร์กระป๋องดำอันใหม่เอี่ยมมาเปลี่ยนคืนให้ ไม่คิดตังค์ 😍 ก็เลยจะเข้าใจได้ว่าทำไมรูปแรกถึงยิ้มแฉ่งกัน แต่รูปหลังยังอึ้งอยู่เลยยิ้มไม่ค่อยออก 🙄 😝 เพราะอดเสียดายเบียร์เกือบเต็มกระป๋องสองกระป๋องที่ถูกยึดไปเททิ้งไม่ได้

Travel Diary: The Ultimate Fall Foliage in New England, Day 3

Trip Date: October 2022

We geared up for some serious hiking on the third day of our trip. 🧢🎒🥾

วันนี้เราเตรียมตัวมาเดินป่ากันอย่างแข็งขัน 🧢🎒🥾

First up was Flume Gorge, where we did a 2.6 mile loop, which took us past Flume Covered Bridge, Table Rock, Avalanche Falls, Liberty Gorge, Sentinel Pine Bridge, and the viewpoint for Mount Liberty. The 🍁 colors were pretty intense, especially at the higher elevation. 😍

เริ่มด้วยเส้นวงแหวน 2.6 ไมล์ (หรือประมาณ 4 กิโลนิดๆ) ที่หุบเขา Flume Gorge เราได้เห็น สะพานคลุมหลังคา Flume, หินโต๊ะ, น้ำตก Avalanche, โกรกธาร Liberty Gorge, สะพาน Sentinel Pine และจุดชมวิวที่เห็นภูเขา Liberty สีใบไม้ 🍁 นับได้ว่ากำลังจัดจ้านได้ที่ โดยเฉพาะตอนที่ขึ้นไปบนเขาสูงๆ 😍

From there, we drove 10 minutes north to the Artist’s Bluff Loop Trailhead, over in Franconia Notch State Park, and set off on our second hike of the day. This 1.4 mile loop took us straight uphill to the legendary viewpoint, and got my heart properly pumping 😓. But the view, once we got there, was beyond worth it! 🥰 This spot was no doubt the most vibrant fall foliage scene I have ever seen in my life.

เสร็จจาก Flume Gorge เราขับรถต่อขึ้นไปอีกสิบนาที ไปที่ Franconia Notch State Park เพื่อไปเดินขึ้นเขากันอีกรอบที่เส้นวงแหวน Artist’s Bluff เส้นนี้ความยาวแค่ 1.4 ไมล์ก็จริง ​(หรือประมาณ 2 กิโลหน่อยๆ) แต่พาเราขึ้นเขาไปที่จุดชมวิวที่สวยที่สุดในละแวกนี้ กว่าจะถึงก็เกือบลิ้นห้อย 😓 แต่เห็นวิวแล้วหายเหนื่อยเป็นปลิดทิ้ง 🥰 วิวเค้าสวยจับใจ เรียกได้ว่าเป็นสีใบไม้ที่สวยที่สุดเท่าที่เคยเห็นมาในชีวิตนี้

Lunch that day was at Omni Mount Washington Resort.

มื้อกลางวันวันนั้นไปแวะกินกันที่ Omni Mount Washington Resort

After lunch, we rode the historic Mt Washington Cog Railway up to the summit of Mount Washington. It was packed. I think we got one of the last few tickets available for the last ride of the day! 😅

หลังจากนั้นก็ได้เวลาไปนั่งรถไฟกันอีกรอบ คราวนี้ขึ้นไปที่ยอดเขาวอชิงตันกับ Mt Washington Cog Railway ที่นี่ประชากรหนาแน่นมาก ไปถึงซื้อได้ตั๋วเป็นใบเกือบๆสุดท้ายพอดี 😅

We were pretty alarmed when this helicopter was swooping down right next to our train, about mid-ride uphill. 😳 But since it pulled such unnecessary stunts, it finally dawned on us that this was very likely ‘part of the show’. 🙄

ขึ้นไปได้เกือบครึ่งทางเห็นมีเฮลิคอปเตอร์มาวนใกล้ๆ แบบประมาณมาเกือบเฉี่ยวๆรถไฟ 😳 ตอนแรกก็ตกอกตกใจอยู่ แต่พอมาวิเคราะห์ดูว่าคาดว่าน่าจะตั้งใจมาโฉบให้ชมซะมากกว่า 🙄

It was freezing cold 🥶 on the summit. And, also very windy! 😓 I had to keep holding on to my hat while snapping photos or I felt like it would definitely get whipped away. 😆 We could see fall colors in the far distanced mountains, but the mood was just so strikingly different from what we just saw down there before we climbed up. Almost like we were on a completely different planet! 😜

ไปถึงบนยอดเขาอากาศหนาวจับใจ 🥶 แถมยังลมแรงอีกด้วย 😓 จะตั้งท่าถ่ายรูปทีต้องคอยเอามือจับหมวกไว้ ไม่งั้นปลิวหลุดแน่นอน 😆 อยู่บนนั้นบรรยากาศเปลี่ยนไปจากหน้ามือเป็นหลังมือ ทั้งๆที่ยังเห็นสีใบไม้แดงๆอยู่บนเขาไกลๆ แต่เหมือนอยู่คนละโลกกับข้างล่างโดยสิ้นเชิง 😜

Our ride back to the base was timed perfectly for a beautiful dusky lightings just before sunset – such a marvelous ending to another successful leaf peeping day! 🥰

ขากลับลงมาได้เวลาฟ้ากำลังแสงสวยตอนพระอาทิตย์กำลังตกพอดิบพอดี ถือว่าวันนี้ประสบความสำเร็จในการล่าชมใบไม้เป็นอย่างยิ่ง 🥰

Travel Diary: The Ultimate Fall Foliage in New England, Day 2

After the rather yummy breakfast at the Sutton House, we took a quick stroll through their beautiful garden before setting out on our second day of the trip.

หลังจากทานข้าวเช้าอร่อยๆที่ Sutton House แล้ว เราแวะไปเดินชมสวนสวยๆของเค้าก่อนออกเดินทางไปตะลุยต่อกันวันที่สองของทริป

Our first stop was in the nearby town of Sandwich, where we started off with some picture perfect fall vibes. 😍 No, the twinsie Allbirds sneakers were not pre-arranged! 😆

ไปแวะเก็บภาพบรรยากาศฤดูใบไม้ร่วงสวยๆกันที่แรกที่เมืองแซนด์วิช 😍 จะเห็นได้ว่าป้าสองคนใส่รองเท้ายี่ห้อเดียวกันมาโดยมิได้นัดหมาย 😆

Thompson Sanctuary was not quite at its peak, but still very pretty nonetheless! 😇

สีของใบไม้ที่ Thompson Sanctuary ยังไม่ถึงขั้นสุดยอด แต่ก็ยังสวยเรียบๆไปอีกแบบ 😇

Making a pit stop on the side of the road to capture the beautiful colors 😊 – apparently we were not the only ones! 😆

ขับมาตามทางไปเห็นใบไม้สีสวยเลยต้องจอดแวะถ่ายรูป 😊 จะเห็นได้ว่าไม่ได้มีแต่เราที่บ้ากันอยู่สองคน 😆

Another wonderful stop, at Chocorua Park & Chocorua Lake Conservancy, in Tamworth.

อีกจุดแวะสวยๆที่ Chocorua Park และ Chocorua Lake Conservancy ในเมือง Tamworth

A quick photo op at Silver Lake Railroad, and Silver Lake, right across the street from it, in Madison.

มาถ่ายรูปกับสถานีรถไฟเก่าแก่ปลดระวาง Silver Lake Railroad ซึ่งอยู่ตรงข้ามกับทะเลสาบ Silver Lake ในเมือง Madison

Then, lunch at this super cute Stairway Cafe in North Conway.

แวะทานมื้อกลางวันกันที่ร้าน Stairway Cafe ในเมือง North Conway

To take a break from all the driving, we hopped on this one-hour scenic ride with Conway Scenic Railroad. The one very cool thing about this train, that I only discovered midway through the ride after seeing another fellow travelling party demonstrating the trick 😛, was that the seats can be flipped back the other way, so that you do not have to ride backwards on the return trip (after the train does an about-face and heads back on the same track). The view would have been much prettier if we were to catch the leaves at their peak colors, but still, it was a very enjoyable trip. 😆

ก่อนจะพักขับรถยนต์ ไปนั่งรถไฟชมวิวกันกับ Conway Scenic Railroad เก้าอี้ที่นั่งบนรถไฟขบวนนี้มีดีตรงที่ว่าพับกลับไปเอนอีกข้างได้ คือจริงๆแล้วไม่รู้หรอก แต่แอบไปเห็นลุงข้างหลังสาธิตให้ดู เลยเลียนแบบเค้าเอา 😛 ตอนขากลับเลยไม่ต้องนั่งกลับหลังให้เวียนหัว จริงๆแล้วถ้ามาตอนใบไม้สีจัดจ้านเต็มๆคงจะงามกว่านี้หลายเท่า แต่อย่างน้อยได้นั่งชมวิวสบายๆเป็นชั่วโมงก็เพลินดีอยู่ 😆

Finally, we set off on the infamous Kancamagus Highway, which was deemed one of the prettiest fall foliage drives in New Hampshire.

สุดท้ายเราไปขับรถชมวิวกันต่อที่ Kancamagus Highway ซึ่งเค้าว่ากันว่าเป็นไฮเวย์เส้นที่สวยที่สุดสำหรับการชมใบไม้เปลี่ยนสีที่รัฐนิวแฮมเชียร์แห่งนี้

The Albany Covered Bridge – one of the most picturesque bridges in New England! 🥰

Albany Covered Bridge นี้ขึ้นชื่อว่าเป็นสะพานคลุมหลังคาที่มีคนมาถ่ายรูปด้วยเยอะที่สุดในแถบ New England 🥰

Catching the perfect twilight at Lower Falls 😍

ไปเจอแสงสนธยากำลังเหมาะที่น้ำตก Lower Falls 😍

…before we had to hurry to get to our last leaf peeping stop at Rocky Gorge Scenic Area before sunset! 😅

ก่อนจะรีบบึ่งไปจุดแวะชมใบไม้จุดสุดท้ายของวันนั้นที่ Rocky Gorge Scenic Area ให้ทันก่อนพระอาทิตย์จะตก 😅

Travel Diary: The Ultimate Fall Foliage in New England, Day 1

Since we are about to leave for my second trip to New England in a few weeks, I figured it’s about time I put these posts up from my last trip there… 😅

เหตุมีอยู่ว่า กำลังเตรียมตัวจะกลับไปเยี่ยม New England อีกรอบกับคุณสามีอีกไม่กี่อาทิตย์หน้า เลยเพิ่งนึกขึ้นมาได้ว่ายังไม่ได้โพสต์รูปจากที่ไปมารอบที่แล้วเลย 😅

After hearing people raving on and on about how you absolutely need to go to New England for the best fall foliage, and seeing all these amazing pictures of the exploding colors posted on social media, I finally got the chance to cross that off my bucket list back in the Fall of 2022. Yok and I met up at Boston Logan International Airport one cool Fall day in early October, picked up our rental car, and set off on our weeklong grand tour of New England to hunt for the best fall colors. 🥳

หลังจากที่ได้ยินคำร่ำลือมานานว่าถ้าอยากไปดูใบไม้เปลี่ยนสีสวยๆ ต้องไปดูที่ New England ประกอบกับเห็นภาพใบไม้สีจัดจ้านจากหลายๆท่านที่ไปมาแล้วถ่ายมาอวดลงโซเชียลกันระนาว เราเลยได้โอกาสไปท้าพิสูจน์ความงามด้วยตาตัวเองเมื่อฤดูใบไม้ร่วงปี 2022 ถกกันอยู่นานว่าจะเลือกไปช่วงไหนดี แต่สุดท้ายก็จัดเอาตามความสะดวก ไปนัดเจอกับคุณนายหยก เพื่อนสาวเจ้าเก่าที่สนามบินเมืองบอสตันตอนต้นเดือนตุลา จากนั้นก็จัดการไปรับรถเช่า แล้วจึงออกเดินทางไปตามล่าหาใบไม้สีสวยกันที่ New England ตามแปลนที่ไปตระเตรียมมาเป็นอย่างดี 🥳

We began the trip with cautious optimism on our drive from Boston to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Things were looking pretty promising when we first started off. 🤩

ออกรถมาเพื่อมุ่งตรงไปที่ทะเลสาบ Winnipesaukee ในรัฐนิวแฮมเชียร์เป็นจุดแรก ดูจากสภาพต้นไม้ตามรายทางแล้วค่อยใจชื้นขึ้นมา เพราะเห็นมีสีเหลืองแดงโผล่มาให้เห็นเป็นหย่อมๆ 🤩

But the trees were ominously very very green at our first stop in Alton Bay. 😬

แต่พอไปถึงจุดแวะชมวิวแห่งแรกที่ Alton Bay เริ่มจะชักไม่ค่อยแน่ใจ เพราะต้นไม้ตามริมอ่าวดูยังเขียวขจีไม่มีวี่แววว่าจะผลัดใบเลยซักเล็กน้อย 😬

At out next stop on the boardwalk in Weirs Beach, we started to see a bit more colors. 🥺

ต่อมาที่ริมชายหาด Weirs Beach เพิ่งจะเริ่มเห็นความมีสีสันโผล่ขึ้นมาบ้าง 🥺

Meredith Marina would be so much prettier with better fall colors…but they do have this cool sculpture ‘Poured’ at Clough Park. 😍

วิวที่ท่าจอดเรือ Meredith Marina ดูแล้วสวยดีก็จริง แต่ถ้ามีสีใบไม้แดงๆมาแต่งเติมซะหน่อยคงจะสวยกว่านี้… แต่ก็ยังดีที่เดินมาหน่อยมีรูปปั้นแปลกตาชื่อ ‘Poured’ อันนี้ตั้งไว้ให้ดูที่สวนสาธารณะ Clough Park 😍

Our fall spirits were evidently much lifted at Moulton Farm with the beautiful assortment of pumpkins on display. 🥰

มาได้บรรยากาศฤดูใบไม้ร่วงกันแบบจัดมาเต็มๆก็ที่ Moulton Farm ที่เค้าตกแต่งไว้อย่างละลานตาด้วยฟักทองนานาพันธุ์ 🥰

We ended our short-ish first day with our check in at the lovely Sutton House B & B in Center Harbor.

จบวันแรกแบบสั้นๆด้วยการเช็คอินเข้าพักที่ Sutton House B & B ในเมือง Center Harbor

Spring Hikes: Failed Morel Hunts

We finally went back hiking again after a really long winter hiatus where I was out of the country for the most part. This Spring, our friends at the Facebook NC Mushroom Group have been bragging about their morel finds since mid March! Naturally, we had to find time to venture out and see if we can replicate. 😉

ไม่ได้ไปเดินป่ามาซะนาน เพราะมัวแต่หยุดยาวไปหนีหนาวที่ต่างเมืองกันมา พอฤดูใบไม้ผลิเริ่มมาเยือน แอบไปเห็นเพื่อนๆในกลุ่มชมรมคนรักเห็ดในเฟซบุ๊กประจำรัฐนอร์ทแคโรไลน่ามาโพสต์กันตรึมว่าไปเจอเห็ดมอเรลผุดขึ้นมาเต็มป่าตั้งแต่กลางเดือนมีนา ซึ่งถือว่าเร็วมากสำหรับแถบนี้ เลยต้องหาเวลาไปเข้าป่าหาเห็ดกันดูมั่ง 😉

We first tried Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve, where we have found plenty of mushrooms in the past. But no such luck this time around. 😕 There were plenty of pretty wildflowers, but no mushrooms whatsoever!

ก่อนอื่นเราไปลองเสี่ยงโชคกันที่ Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve ซึ่งเคยไปเห็นว่ามีเห็ดขึ้นอยู่ชุกชุม แต่ปรากฎว่าปีนี้เห็ดหดหายกันไปหมด 😕 แต่ก็ยังดีที่มีดอกไม้ป่าสวยๆไว้ให้ชมอยู่บ้าง ไม่ถึงกับเสียเที่ยว

Next up was Durant Nature Preserve, which we went in Fall last time and saw beautiful foliage there. The lake looks very different in the Spring afternoon light. The were signs of newly sprung life everywhere, but, alas, still no mushrooms in sight! 😔

อาทิตย์ถัดไปเราเปลี่ยนแผนไปที่ Durant Nature Preserve กันแทน คราวก่อนไปตอนช่วงใบไม้กำลังเปลี่ยนสีเจอวิวทะเลสาบกำลังสวยพอดี คราวนี้ได้เปลี่ยนบรรยากาศไปอีกแบบ ต้นไม้ดอกไม้กำลังแข่งกันแตกหน่อผลิใบเขียวขจีไปทั่วทั้งป่า แต่ทว่าไม่มีเห็ดโผล่มาให้เห็นซักดอก 😔

My favorite find that day was this Little Free Library with this hilariously-titled book, ‘I Hate to Read’, hidden inside. 😂

ไฮไลต์วันนั้นคือห้องสมุดแจกฟรีสีแดงอันนี้ที่คุณสามีตาดีไปเห็นหนังสือชื่อชวนฮาซ่อนอยู่ตรงริมในสุด แปลตรงตัวได้ว่า “ฉันเกลียดหนังสือ” 😂

Lastly, we gave it another try this past Sunday at Lake Raleigh Woods, where the conditions seem to fit all our morel requirements. Yet, the elusive mushroom has proven to be beyond our reach once again! 😭

ล่าสุดเมื่อวันอาทิตย์ที่ผ่านมา เราไปลองเสี่ยงโชคกันอีกทีที่ Lake Raleigh Woods ซึ่งไปค้นคว้ามาแล้วว่าทำเลที่ตั้งเหมาะเจาะ ตรงตามที่ตำราว่าไว้ทุกอย่าง หากทว่า งมหากันเกือบสองชั่วโมง ยังไงก็ไม่เจอเห็ดที่ตั้งใจมาเก็บซักดอก 😭

The only mushrooms we found that day was this lone flush of train wreckers… 😞

มีเจออยู่กอเดียวคืออันนี้ที่เค้าเรียกกันว่า train wreckers เพราะชอบขึ้นอยู่ตามท่อนไม้บนรางรถไฟ 😞

We did, however, find a few very unusual things I have never seen before… Like this beautiful Dwarf Crested Iris. 😍

แต่ถึงจะไม่เจอเห็ด ก็ยังไปเจอของแปลกตาหลายอย่าง เช่นดอกไอริสป่าสีม่วงสวยดอกนี้ 😍

These little brown jugs. 😮

และดอกไม้ทรงประหลาดที่มีชื่อแปลตรงตัวว่า เหยือกน้อยสีน้ำตาล 😮

And lastly, these pretty red polka-dotted puffballs that we learned were called Wool Sower Galls, which happen when tiny gall wasps lay their eggs in the seed pods, usually on white oaks. Just wow! 🥰

และท้ายที่สุดก็คือเจ้าก้อนปุกปุยสีขาวลายจุดแดงช่อนี้ ซึ่งไปค้นเจอมาว่าเป็นฝักของตัวต่อที่มาไข่ทิ้งเอาไว้ ส่วนใหญ่จะเจอได้ตามต้นโอ๊คขาว แหม น่ารักซะไม่มี 🥰

Daily walks nearby proved equally unfruitful in terms of mushroom spotting. 😞 But Spring has arrived in full force, as do our bunny friends! 🐰 This one pictured was staring straight at me from merely 5 feet away while I was stooping down scanning for mushrooms – giving me such a fright! 😅

อุตส่าห์คอยส่องหาเห็ดตามทางเวลาไปเดินออกกำลังใกล้ๆบ้าน แต่แถวนี้ก็แห้งแล้งไม่แพ้กัน 😞 ที่แน่ๆคือฤดูใบไม้ผลิมาเยือนแล้วแน่นอน เพราะเริ่มมีน้องกระต่ายป่า 🐰 โผล่มาให้เห็นตามทาง เจ้าตัวในรูปนี้นั่งจ้องเราอยู่แบบไม่ให้สุ้มให้เสียง ไอ้เราก็นั่งคุดคู้ลงไปส่องเห็ดอยู่ไม่ทันเห็นแก หันมาทีตกกะใจหมด มาเผชิญหน้ากันแบบกระชั้นชิดขนาดนี้ ไม่รู้ใครทำใครตกใจกันแน่ 😅

We ended up cooking ourselves this yummie morel risotto, with the morels foraged from the wild, wild Amazon jungles for now! 🤣

สุดท้ายแล้วเลยได้อาหารเย็นเป็น รีซอตโตเห็ดจานอร่อยที่เห็นในภาพ ด้วยเห็ดมอเรลที่ไปเก็บมาได้จากป่าอเมซอนที่บ้านเราเอง 🤣

Travel Diary: Troll Hunting in Danish Jungles

While racking our brains for a cool international trip idea this year, I happened to come across this interesting article about a Danish artist who builds trolls and hides them in the woods all around the world. Thomas Dambo wanted to encourage people to get out and enjoy nature. He started off building bird houses with reclaimed materials back in 2010, and graduated to building trolls a few years later. To date, he has installed more than 120 troll sculptures in 17 countries. We have decided – Denmark, Thomas Dambo’s birthplace and home country, would be our honorary destination this year! 🤠

หลังจากที่หารือกันอยู่นานว่าปีนี้จะไปเที่ยวต่างประเทศที่ไหนกันดี ก็เผอิญไปอ่านเจอบทความที่มีคนเขียนไว้เกี่ยวกับศิลปินชาวเดนมาร์กชื่อ โทมัส แดมโบ ที่มีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังจากการสร้างผลงานประติมากรรมเป็นยักษ์ใหญ่ซ่อนไว้ตามสถานที่ต่างๆทั่วโลก คุณแดมโบบอกว่าแกมีแรงบันดาลใจมาจากการที่อยากให้คนได้ออกไปสัมผัสกับธรรมชาตินอกบ้าน โดยเริ่มต้นตั้งแต่ปีค.ศ. 2010 แกเริ่มลองสร้างบ้านนกจากวัสดุเหลือใช้แล้วเอาไปแขวนไว้ตามที่ต่างๆทั่วเมือง จากนั้นจึงค่อยๆเกิดเป็นไอเดียมาประยุกต์สร้างเป็นยักษ์ใหญ่ใจดีเหล่านี้แทน จนถึงปัจจุบันมียักษ์ที่สร้างเสร็จแล้วจำนวนมากกว่า 120 ตน ตั้งอยู่กระจัดกระจายใน 17 ประเทศทั่วโลก สรุปเลยมีการลงมติเป็นเอกฉันท์ว่าปีนี้เราจะไปเยือนประเทศเดนมาร์ก บ้านเกิดคุณแดมโบนี่แหละ ไปตามล่าหายักษ์ใหญ่ใจดีกัน 🤠

During our 13-day excursion throughout this beautiful country, we hunted for and found a total of 18 trolls, all over Denmark. 😇 What I love most about these trolls is that each and every one of them has a unique feature you did not expect. 😍 It’s like finding treasures upon treasures in every destination. This was, by far, one of the most unique trips we have ever taken in our growing roster. 🤩

ไปขับรถเที่ยวตระเวนทั่วประเทศเดนมาร์กอยู่ 13 วัน หายักษ์เจอทั้งหมดรวมแล้ว 18 ตัว 😇 ที่ชอบใจมากก็คือ แต่ละตัวมีรายละเอียดที่โดดเด่นไม่ซ้ำกันเลย 😍 เหมือนไปตามล่าหาขุมทรัพย์แล้วได้รางวัลสมนาคุณแปลกใหม่ไม่จำเจซักครั้ง ทริปนี้เรียกได้ว่าเป็นทริปที่แหวกแนวกว่าทุกทริปที่เคยไปมาจริงๆ 🤩

We started off with our very first troll, Sigurd, The Bird & The Red Thing. He was located in the town of Mørke, which was about half an hour drive north of Aarhus, where we started our journey from.

Simon & Anine was one of the very few trolls we found that was located in an urban jungle, just on the outskirt of Aarhus. There is a lovely story behind this particular troll. 🥹 When the original Simon Selfmade Troll was destroyed in a big storm, a young girl named Anine raised the money to rebuild him, so in this new version, they portrayed Simon in the process of building his little friend Anine, as an homage to her. 😍

Simon & Anine ตัวนี้แปลกกว่าตัวอื่นๆตรงที่ว่าตั้งอยู่กลางป่าคอนกรีตย่านชานเมือง Aarhus นี่เอง เค้ามีที่มาเบื้องหลังการถ่ายทำอยู่ว่า แต่เดิมเป็นคุณยักษ์ชื่อ Simon Selfmade ที่สร้างขึ้นมาไม่นานก็โดนพายุทำพัง แต่ไปได้เด็กหญิงตัวน้อยชื่อ Anine ที่อุตส่าห์ไปวิ่งรอกตระเวนระดมทุนมาเพื่อเป็นค่าบูรณะ Simon ตกลงคุณแดมโบเลยได้อาสาสมัครมาช่วยกันซ่อมแซมส่วนที่เสียหาย ด้วยความที่ซึ้งในน้ำใจน้อง Anine คุณแดมโบเลยเพิ่มโบนัสไว้บนตักเจ้า Simon ให้เห็นว่ากำลังสร้างยักษ์น้อยๆมาอยู่เป็นเพื่อนบนตัก แล้วตั้งชื่อให้ใหม่ว่า Simon & Anine 😍

Elles Helle was in a field near a school in Viborg.

Ene Øjesten sits in an idyllic cow pasture, guarding a mill stone, right between 2 old water mills in Børkop.

Hans Hulehånd was a really cool one. He’s hidden in the tiny wooded area near Den Gemle Kanal in Odense, working on building a little house. The roof featured flattened out tin can products! 🤯

Finding Runde Rie required quite a trek 😓, then a bit of a scramble to get down to her exact location. She sits there with a fishing rod on the edge of one of the lakes near Lynghøjsøernes Hundeskov in Roskilde.

For Glade Anders, we parked at the lot for Hedeland Naturpark in Hedehusene, and followed the trail for about 1 km. We were in a bit of a hurry as the sun was beginning to set by the time we walked out and we still had one more troll to check out that day. Sadly, I just learned after we got back from our trip, that his mother, Månemor, Thomas Dambo’s elusive 100th troll, could be found not too far from him. So we did miss one this time. 😭 But, that just gives us an excuse to be back! 😉

สำหรับ Glade Anders ตัวนี้ เราไปจอดรถที่ Hedeland Naturpark ในเมือง Hedehusene แล้วต้องเดินต่อไปอีกประมาณ 1 กิโล วันนั้นเดินจ้ำกันมากเพราะพระอาทิตย์ใกล้จะตก กว่าจะเดินกลับออกมาที่รถก็ใกล้ค่ำเต็มที มารู้ทีหลังว่าถ้าเดินต่อไปอีกนิดก็จะได้เจอ Månemor ซึ่งเป็นแม่ของเจ้า Glade Anders และเป็นยักษ์ตัวพิเศษเบอร์ 100 ของคุณแดมโบที่เค้าว่ากันว่าหายากนักหนา เสียดายที่ไม่รู้ 😭 สงสัยจะต้องกลับไปเดนมาร์กกันใหม่อีกรอบ 😉

We found our last troll of the day, Teddy Venlig, or Friendly Teddy, with very little daylight to spare. 😅 He’s actually one of the Six Forgotten Giants series, which we planned to tackle just the day after. Thomas Dambo named this one after a very friendly teacher who helped him build the troll. Teddy sits by a tiny stream, which you can cross by climbing on his extended right arm! 😆

ยักษ์ใหญ่ใจดีตัวสุดท้ายที่เจอวันนั้นคือ Teddy Venlig หรือ Friendly Teddy กว่าจะไปถึงก็เกือบมืดแล้ว 😅 คุณ Teddy เป็นหนึ่งในจำนวนซีรี่ส์หกสหายยักษ์ที่ถูกลืม ที่เราตั้งใจไปกวาดชมกันวันถัดไป คุณแดมโบตั้งชื่อยักษ์ตัวนี้ตามคุณครูแสนดีคนนึงที่อาสามาช่วยสร้างยักษ์ Teddy นั่งเล่นอยู่ริมฝั่งลำธารเล็กๆ ถ้าอยากเดินข้ามน้ำไปทักทายก็สามารถปีนข้ามแขนขวาแกที่ยื่นข้ามมาเป็นสะพานสำหรับมนุษย์ตัวจิ๋วอย่างเราๆ 😆

Hanna Halerød in Lillerød has a very long tail. 😅 Her tail, measured at 125 meter, stretches on and on, looping around tree trunks, hopping over fallen logs, and finally leading you to a cozy picnic spot in the woods.

Hanna Halerød เป็นนางยักษ์หางยาวประจำเมือง Lillerød 😅 หางนางยาวมากกกกกก วัดได้อยู่ที่ 125 เมตร เราเดินตามหางที่เลี้ยวลดขดเคี้ยวตามต้นไม้ไปเรื่อยๆเข้าไปในป่า จนสุดท้ายไปจบที่ศาลาเล็กๆสำหรับแวะปิคนิค หรือให้หยุดนั่งพักเหนื่อย 😆

We started off our first day in Copenhagen with Kaptajn Nalle, who was located in a large open field in a fenced-in area near Nordhavnen harbor. Getting to him was a bit tricky. We drove all the way around and couldn’t find a way in. We were getting ready to give up when I finally spotted a gate with a sign for a cafe. Sadly, both the troll and his boat were covered with a bunch of graffitis. 😢

Kaptajn Nalle เป็นยักษ์ตัวแรกที่เราไปเจอ หลังจากเข้าพักที่เมืองโคเปนเฮเกน ซึ่งเป็นจุดหมายปลายทางของทริปนี้ ยักษ์ตัวนี้ตั้งอยู่กลางทุ่งกว้างใกล้กับท่าเรือ Nordhavnen ขับรถไปถึงเห็นแกอยู่ไกลๆ แต่หาทางเข้าไปดูใกล้ๆไม่เจอ เพราะมีรั้วลวดหนามกั้นอยู่โดยรอบ วนไปวนมาจนเกือบจะยอมแพ้ แต่สุดท้ายตาดีไปเจอประตูรั้วแง้มอยู่ พร้อมป้ายเล็กๆโฆษณาว่ามีร้านกาแฟอยู่ข้างใน เลยสามารถเข้าไปถึงตัวแกได้ เสียดายมีมือดีไปพ่นสีไว้เต็มไปหมดทั้งตัวยักษ์และตัวเรือที่แกลากอยู่ 😢

Sleeping Louis was our second troll from the Six Forgotten Giants set, named after Thomas Dambo’s assistant who helped finish up the construction. His snoring mouth was big enough for me to peek in and explore the little room inside! 😊

Hill Top Trine, third in the Six Forgotten Giants series, was resting on a small hill surrounded by charming farmlands. You can climb up and sit in her hand to enjoy the beautiful landscape. 🥰

Oscar Under the Bridge was literally, as his name suggested, the classic troll under the bridge! 😆 He was the fourth troll of the Six Forgotten Giants.

Little Tilde and Thomas on the Mountain were our last two Six Forgotten Giants trolls. They can be found in the beautiful nature area in Vallensbæk Mose. Little Tilde stood there peeking through the trees out at the lake, waiting for his visitors to visit via a hand-pulled raft that connects to the other side. Thomas On The Mountain was chilling on the mountain top right across the lake. The raft was on the other side when we got to Little Tilde 😐, so we had to hike through a sheep & goat pasture to get to Thomas. But we did take the raft on our way back. 🥰

Last but not least, this one was such a happy surprise and the only one we found that we did not plan for! 😆 We just ran into Green George unexpectedly while strolling around in Freetown Christiania.

And there concludes our troll hunting adventure in Denmark, for now. 😉 We do intend to continue hunting trolls both locally, here in the US, and in other countries around the world, as time and opportunities will allow. 🥰
