Travel Diary: Colombia’s Coffee Region

From Bogotá, we took a domestic flight with Avianca to the capital of the Colombian Coffee Triangle, Pereira, to meet up with Joel’s friend, Jason, and his lovely wife, Silvia.

เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้น เรานั่งเครื่องกับสายการบิน Avianca จากโบโกตาไปที่เพเรย์รา ซึ่งเป็นจุดศูนย์กลางของแหล่งปลูกกาแฟในโคลอมเบีย เพื่อไปสมทบกับเจสันและซิลเวีย ภรรยาผู้น่ารักที่เป็นผู้ชักนำให้เกิดทริปนี้ขึ้นมา

They rented this beautiful compound for everybody to stay together just outside of town, which came equipped with several living quarters, a communal kitchen, a pool, and a hot tub. Apart from that, there were several fruit trees and flowers, not to mention a number of critters, some residents and some visitors! 😆 The best part of this living arrangement was the very delicious traditional home-cooked breakfasts prepared for us daily by Silvia’s mom. 🥰

เจ้าภาพของเราไปจัดแจงเช่าคฤหาสน์หลังโตให้ทุกคนมาพักรวมกัน ที่นี่มีบ้านหลังเล็กหลังน้อยกระจัดกระจายให้แยกกันอยู่โดยไม่ต้องรบกวนกัน มีครัวใหญ่อยู่ตรงกลาง พร้อมทั้งสระว่ายน้ำ และสระน้ำร้อน สำหรับการสังสรรค์ช่วงค่ำคืน นอกจากนี้รอบบริเวณบ้านยังมีต้นไม้ใหญ่น้อยร่มรื่นออกดอกออกผลเต็มไปหมด แถมยังมีสัตว์น้อยใหญ่ ทั้งที่อยู่ประจำและที่มาเยือนเป็นครั้งคราว 😆 โบนัสข้อใหญ่ก็คือคุณแม่ผู้น่ารักของน้องซิลเวียอุตส่าห์ตั้งตัวเป็นเชฟจำเป็น ทำอาหารเช้าแบบจัดเต็มให้พวกเรากินกันทุกเช้า 🥰

Have I mentioned how much I enjoyed the local fruits there!? 🤩

Silvia took us on a tour of a local coffee farm in Alcalá owned by her mom’s friend, known as Don Diego’s La Finca. Besides the chance to get very up close and personal with coffee trees and the walkthrough of the entire process of the coffee making business 😇, we also got to meet the farm’s pig family, and checked out all kinds of exotic fruit and flower trees. 😍

ซิลเวียพาเราไปชมไร่กาแฟของเพื่อนแม่ชื่อ Don Diego ที่เมืองอัลคาลา นอกจากจะได้ไปเห็นเมล็ดกาแฟสดๆแบบสุกคาต้นแล้ว คุณเจ้าของยังใจดีสาธิตวิธีการเก็บเกี่ยวให้ดูทุกขั้นตอน 😇 ที่นี่นอกจากกาแฟแล้วยังมีฟาร์มหมู และดอกไม้ผลไม้แปลกตาให้ชมมากมาย 😍

We stopped by to visit Silvia’s aunt in Quimbaya. She has such a wonderful collection of plants in her backyard garden, AND a collection of pottery that rivaled a small national museum! 😳

จากนั้นเราแวะไปเยี่ยมคุณป้าของซิลเวียที่บ้านในเมืองควิมบายา ซึ่งอยู่ใกล้ๆกันกับไร่กาแฟ บ้านเค้าปลูกต้นไม้สวยๆไว้เต็มสวนหลังบ้าน แถมในบ้านยังมีคอลเลคชั่นเครื่องปั้นดินเผาเก่าแก่อายุนับพันปีที่ขุดเจอในที่ดินส่วนตัว ดูแล้วไม่แพ้พิพิธภัณฑ์ขนาดย่อมๆเลยทีเดียว 😳

In Quimbaya, we spent a full day at Panaca.

Besides its magnificent view, this agricultural theme park was packed full with cool animals…

พร้อมทั้งต้นไม้แปลกๆมากมาย แถมยังตาดีไปเจอผลคาเคาห้อยเต็มต้นตอนก่อนกลับพอดี 😇

มีเห็ดให้ชมอยู่บ้างประปราย 🍄

One of the most interesting parts of these drives around the region for me was all the cool beware-of-animal road signs! 😍 It was so fun to keep spotting a new one everywhere we went. 😆

ส่วนที่ประทับใจมากก็คือป้ายเตือนให้ระวังสัตว์ตามถนนหนทางแถวนี้ 😍 ขับไปแล้วตื่นเต้นเวลาเห็นอันใหม่ๆ เลยได้สนุกสนานเพลิดเพลินเจริญตากันตลอดทาง 😆

We drove through downtown Pereira so that we could check out Pereira Art Museum on our last day there before heading out of town. Their exhibits were quite limited, but there was a few interesting pieces on display. 😇

วันสุดท้ายก่อนออกจากเมืองเพเรย์รา เราขับรถไปย่านดาวน์ทาวน์ไปแวะเดินเล่นกันที่พิพิธภัณฑ์ศิลปะของที่นี่ เค้ามีของตั้งแสดงไม่มากเท่าไหร่ แต่มีที่น่าสนใจอยู่หลายชิ้นเหมือนกัน 😇

Travel Diary: 24 Hours in Bogotá

Colombia had never been a travel destination on our radar… 😛 But as luck would have it, this country got bumped up to the top of our list when Joel’s good friend finally popped ‘the question’ to this sweetest Colombian girl and had us invited down to visit her hometown with them this summer. 🥰

โคลอมเบียเป็นประเทศนึงซึ่งไม่เคยอยากไปเที่ยวมาก่อน 😛 แต่เพราะโชคชะตามาพาไปแท้ๆ ซัมเมอร์นี้เลยได้ลัดคิวขึ้นมาเป็นจุดหมายอันดับหนึ่ง เมื่อเพื่อนรักของคุณสามีตกลงปลงใจไปแต่งสาวโคลอมเบียตาคม แล้วเลยมาชวนเราไปเที่ยวบ้านเกิดเจ้าสาว 🥰

We couldn’t be with them for the entire trip since we did not have enough vacation days, so we arranged to meet up with them mid trip. We flew down to Colombia’s capital, Bogotá, and spent 24 hours there on our own, before catching a domestic flight to join up with them in Pereira.

ถึงเวลาปรากฎว่าต้องให้เค้าไปกันก่อน เพราะเรามีวันหยุดไม่พอ เลยจัดแจงบินตามไปสมทบเอากลางทริป เรากะคุณสามีบินไปลงที่เมืองโบโกตา ซึ่งเป็นเมืองหลวง แล้วขอตระเวนเที่ยวกันเองอยู่ 24 ชั่วโมง ก่อนจะขึ้นเครื่องบินต่อไปเจอเค้าที่เมืองเพเรย์รา

We got a quaint little airBnB in the La Candelaria Neighborhood, a central area that was walkable to all of the destinations on our list. The host kindly left us a full bowl of fruit, a loaf of bread, and a basket full of eggs. These made the simplest but most perfect little breakfasts for both our mornings there. 😍 And, we even had a great view of Monserrate from our balcony, as well as the rooftop! 🤩

เราไปได้บ้านพักเล็กๆอยู่ในย่าน La Candelaria ซึ่งเป็นจุดศูนย์กลางที่เดินเที่ยวไปได้ทั่วแบบไม่ต้องพึ่งพาพาหนะใดๆ คุณเจ้าของบ้านใจดีมีผลไม้เตรียมไว้ให้เต็มตะกร้า แถมยังมีไข่ไก่สดๆและขนมปังหนึ่งแถวเตรียมไว้ให้เสร็จสรรพ ก็เลยจัดมาเป็นอาหารเช้าแบบง่ายๆโดยที่ไม่ต้องออกไปหาทานเอาให้ยุ่งยาก 😍 กินไปชมวิวภูเขา Monserrate ที่ตรงระเบียงและดาดฟ้าไปอย่างเพลินๆก่อนออกเดินทางไปตะลุยกันแบบเต็มวัน 🤩

The very colorful La Candelaria Neighborhood, with perfect photo ops every which way you turn. 🥰 Also, beautiful street art everywhere, with vibrant colors to match the bold architecture!

ย่าน La Candelaria มีตึกรามบ้านช่องสีสันแสบตามากมาย 🥰 เดินไปทางไหนก็อดถ่ายรูปไม่ได้ สตรีทอาร์ตก็จัดกันมาแบบเต็มๆ สีสันเข้มข้นไม่แพ้กัน

Trying ‘Chicha’ at Bullitas, one of the many Chicherias lining the streets near Plazoleta Chorro de Quevedo. This local fermented alcoholic drink had a very funky taste. 😆 I’m not a big fan of either the traditional or non-alcoholic versions, but I was glad to give it a try. 😛

เค้าบอกว่าไปโคลอมเบียต้องลองชิม “ชิชะ” เดินไปแถวจัตุรัส Chorro de Quevedo มีร้านชิชะอยู่เต็มถนน หลับตาเลือกเข้าไปที่ร้าน Bullitas เครื่องดื่มพื้นเมืองของอเมริกาใต้อันนี้ทำมาจากข้าวโพดหมัก ชิมแล้วรู้สึกกลิ่นตุๆไม่ค่อยถูกปากเท่าไหร่ 😆 ลองทั้งแบบมีเหล้าและแบบไม่มีเหล้า ไม่เวิร์คทั้งคู่ 😛

Santuario Nuestra Señora del Carmen, nicknamed Candy Cane Church, was quite a sight to behold, both inside and out! 😍

โบสถ์สีลูกกวาดหวานแหววแห่งนี้มีชื่อว่า Santuario Nuestra Señora del Carmen ถ่ายรูปออกมาสวยสดใสทั้งด้านในและด้านนอก 😍

Lunch at Casa Mamá Luz, where I got to try another traditional dish called Ajiaco – a hearty chicken soup topped with avocado and capers. Though we both preferred this other creamy coconut chicken dish we also got, which was served on a bed of yucca. 😝

มื้อกลางวันที่ร้าน Casa Mamá Luz เราไปลองอาหารดังของเมืองนี้อีกจานที่เรียกว่า Ajiaco เป็นซุปไก่ตุ๋นมันฝรั่งที่เสิร์ฟมากับอโวคาโดชิ้นโตและมีเมล็ดเคเปอร์มาให้โรยหน้า รสชาติก็โอเคใช้ได้อยู่ แต่ที่สั่งมาอีกจานเป็นน่องไก่ราดซอสกะทิที่มากับมันสำปะหลังต้ม กินแล้วเราว่าอร่อยกว่าหลายเท่า 😝

We were warned before the trip that altitude sickness was something one needs to take seriously here. At 8,661 feet of elevation, Bogotá was one of the highest places above sea level that we had traveled to. One of the natural remedies, with local availability, was a cup of hot ‘coca tea’. 🍵 I learned on this trip that this particular beverage was made from the same leaves that could be turned into cocaine. 😅 We headed to Café Galeria Nuestra Herencial for this traditional delicacy, where we could enjoy the numerous art installations they had adorn the entire shop with while sipping this very fragrant tea. 😇

ก่อนไปมีคนเตือนว่ามาประเทศนี้ต้องระวังภาวะขาดออกซิเจน เพราะที่นี่อยู่สูงเหนือระดับน้ำทะเลมากถึง 8,661 ฟุต คือสูงกว่าหลายๆที่ๆเคยไปมา แต่เค้าว่าไม่เป็นไร ไปถึงให้ไปหาชาโคคาร้อนๆมาจิบ 🍵 เป็นการแก้ไขด้วยวิธีธรรมชาติ ไปหาข้อมูลดูแล้วเพิ่งจะรู้ว่า ใบโคคาที่ว่านี่มันคือวัตุดิบในการผลิตโคเคนนี่เอง 😅 สรุปว่าเราไปหาชาโคคามาลองชิมกันที่ Café Galeria Nuestra Herencial ชาเค้าหอมละมุนมาก จิบไปชมภาพวาดที่เค้าวางแสดงอยู่ในร้านไปเพลินๆ ยิ่งชิมยิ่งติดใจ เลยต้องซื้อใบชาติดมือกลับมาด้วยหนึ่งห่อ 😇

Botero Museum had very unique 🙄 paintings and sculptures donated by artist Fernando Botero on display, plus it was free to visit!

Enjoying the hustles & bustles of street vendors and visitors at Plaza de Bolívar.

เดินไปถึงจัตุรัสดังกลางเมือง Plaza de Bolívar ที่บรรยากาศค่อนข้างคึกคัก มีรถเข็นแผงลอยต่างๆตั้งกันเรียงราย

Museo Iglesia Santa Clara was very beautiful inside, but the entrance fee was quite steep by Colombian standards. 😐

พิพิธภัณฑ์โบสถ์ Iglesia Santa Clara มีศิลปกรรมทางศาสนาที่เก่าแก่ให้ชม ทั้งเพดานและผนังประดับไปด้วยลวดลายวิจิตรตระการตามาก แต่คุณสามีติว่าค่าเข้าชมแพงไปหน่อย 😐

La Puerta Falsa was apparently the place to go for Colombian hot chocolate, served with cheese! 🤯 We also tried their tamale dish, which reminded me a lot of a Chinese sticky rice dumpling dish called Zongzi.

อีกร้านที่เค้าว่าห้ามพลาดคือร้าน La Puerta Falsa ให้ไปชิมโกโก้ร้อนของที่นี่ซึ่งเสิร์ฟมากับเนยแข็ง 🤯 แปลกดีเหมือนกัน อีกอย่างที่สั่งมาลองชิมคือข้าวหมกไก่ห่อใบตอง ประมาณว่าอารมณ์เดียวกับบะจ่างบ้านเรา

Saturday Hike: Fun Day with Fungi on Occoneechee Loop

Summer weather around here has been playing nice this past week, after a good stretch of rains 🌧 the week before. So, naturally, we felt the need to set out for a hike this weekend. 😇 We arrived at the Occoneechee Loop in Carrboro, a new-to-us part of Carolina North Forest, mid Saturday afternoon and saw no other cars in the parking lot.

อากาศร้อนช่วงนี้ไม่ค่อยทารุณนัก หลังจากที่ฝนตก 🌧 ติดต่อกันหลายวันเมื่อสัปดาห์ก่อน วีคเอนด์นี้เลยได้ฤกษ์กลับไปเดินป่ากันได้ซะที หลังจากที่ห่างหายกันไปนาน 😇 เราเดินทางไปถึงเส้นวงแหวน Occoneechee ที่เมือง Carrboro ตอนประมาณบ่ายแก่ๆวันเสาร์ ที่นี่เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของ Carolina North Forest แต่เป็นช่วงที่เรายังไม่เคยมาเดินกัน ไปถึงที่จอดรถโล่งไม่มีรถเลยซักคัน

The entire forest was lush and green. 🌿 The weather was in the low 80s 🌞 so it was pleasant enough but we still managed to break some serious sweat, even though we were mostly in the shade the entire time.

ต้นไม้ใบหญ้าในป่ากำลังเขียวขจีได้ที่ 🌿 อุณหภูมิอยู่ที่ 80 องศาฟาเรนไฮต์ หรือประมาณ 27 องศาเซลเซียส คือไม่ร้อนจนเกินไป แต่เดินไปซักพักก็ยังเหงื่อตกเหมือนกัน ทั้งๆที่แดดก็ไม่แรงเท่าไหร่

Several trails crisscrossed time and again, but there were clear numbered blazes, as well as directional arrows, spreading out through the entire route. We ran into a few bikers 🚴 along the way, but barely any other fellow hikers.

เส้นทางเดินป่าที่นี่มีหลายสายตัดข้ามกันไปมา แต่เค้ามีหมุดปักบอกทางไว้ชัดเจนตลอดทาง ทั้งที่เป็นตัวเลขและเป็นลูกศร วันนั้นมีเจอนักปั่นจักรยาน 🚴 อยู่บ้างประปราย แต่แทบไม่มีคนมาเดินอย่างเราๆเลย

The fungi population was clearly no longer at its prime, after more than a week with no rain, but we still managed to spot quite a few mushrooms 🍄 here and there. 😍

ประชากรเห็ดที่นี่เริ่มจะบางตาลงแล้ว หลังจากที่ฝนไม่ได้ตกมาเป็นอาทิตย์ แต่ถึงกระนั้นก็ยังมี 🍄 ผุดมาให้เห็นตลอดเส้นทาง 😍

…plus some up close and personal moments with wildlife 🦌.

นอกจากนั้นยังมีการประจันหน้าสัตว์ป่ากันแบบจังๆ 🦌

We clocked in at 3.25 miles, which took us almost 2 hrs, with regular stops for mushrooms 🍄‍🟫. 😛 We will be looking forward for another hike next weekend if the weather stays pleasant like this until then! 🤞

รอบนี้เดินกันไป 3.25 ไมล์ หรือประมาณ 5 กิโลกว่าๆ ใช้เวลาทั้งสิ้นเกือบสองชั่วโมง เพราะมัวแต่หยุดส่องเห็ด 🍄‍🟫 😛 หวังว่าอากาศจะยังเย็นสบายอย่างนี้ไปจนถึงสุดสัปดาห์หน้า จะได้ไปเดินป่ากันอีกรอบ 🤞

Travel Diary: Tennessee Waltzing, in Lynchburg & Chattanooga

Trip Date: May 2025

We knew that Lynchburg was going to be a bit of a detour but it was a must-do for Joel, so we made it happen! 😆 All for none other than the world famous Jack Daniel’s Distillery. 🙄

ก่อนไปก็รู้อยู่ว่า จะไปเมือง Lynchburg มันต้องไปอ้อมอยู่ แต่คุณสามียืนกรานว่าจำเป็นต้องไป คุณภรรยาเลยต้องจัดให้ 😆 ทั้งนี้และทั้งนั้นเพียงเพื่อที่จะได้ไปเยี่ยมชมโรงกลั่นเหล้ายี่ห้อดัง Jack Daniel’s นั่นเอง 🙄

We went with the ‘Bonded Experience’ tour, which includes a guided walking tour through the entire campus. As a non whiskey drinker, I still found the tour very educational and quite enjoyable. It also did not hurt that the included Jack & coke/lemonade slushies 🍹 were very very yummie. 😋

เราเลือกไปทัวร์ Bonded Experience ซึ่งมีไกด์พาเดินชมทั่วอาณาบริเวณ ในฐานะคนไม่ใช่คอเหล้าอย่างเรา ถือว่าทัวร์เค้าทำได้ค่อนข้างดี ให้ความรู้แบบละเอียดทุกขั้นตอน ฟังแล้วเพลินแบบไม่น่าเบื่อ อีกอย่างคือเค้าแจกเครื่องดื่มพิเศษ 🍹 มาให้ชิมระหว่างเดินเที่ยว มีให้เลือกระหว่างเป็นสลัชชี่รสแแจ๊คกับโค้ก หรือรสแจ๊คผสมมะนาว 😋 ซึ่งช่วยให้ทัวร์เกิดความเพลิดเพลินขึ้นอีกไม่น้อย

In Chattanooga, we stopped by to pick up a dried flower bouquet for Joel’s niece’s graduation at Joli Jardin Farm & Flower Shop.

ไปถึงเมือง Chattanooga เราแวะไปซื้อช่อดอกไม้แห้งจากร้าน Joli Jardin Farm & Flower Shop เพื่อเตรียมไว้ไปงานรับปริญญาหลานสาวโจว

Nightcap at Matilda Midnight cocktail bar, located inside Dwell Hotel – a Chattanoogan version of the Nashville White Limozeen/Graduate Hotel, albeit at a much smaller scale, but equally pleasing to the eyes. 🥰

เสร็จจากมื้อเย็นไปนั่งดริ๊งค์ต่อที่บาร์ค๊อกเทล Matilda Midnight ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ในโรงแรม Dwell Hotel ดูแล้วประมาณอารมณ์เดียวกับร้าน White Limozeen ที่โรงแรม The Graduate Hotel ในเมืองแนชวิลล์ ถึงจะเล็กกว่าหลายเท่า แต่เค้าจัดสวยน่าถ่ายรูปไม่แพ้กัน 🥰

Me, trying (& failing) to get some work done at The Naughty Cat Cafe – our last stop in Chattanooga. 😻 This beautiful white boy, named Yuki, would have come home with us, if it wasn’t for this caution from his info page: ‘Yuki must go to a home where there are no children or other animals.’ and that ‘No exceptions can be made.’ 😿 He stayed curled up on my lap the entire time we were there!

ก่อนกลับไปแวะร้านคาเฟ่แมว 😻 The Naughty Cat Cafe ซึ่งเป็นสต๊อปสุดท้ายที่เมือง Chattanooga ตั้งใจไปนั่งทำงานซักชั่วโมง แต่ไปถึงปุ๊บก็มีแมวขาวตัวที่เห็นปีนขึ้นมานั่งบนตักไม่ยอมไปไหน ถ้าไม่ติดว่าคุณ ‘ยูกิ’ ตัวนี้เค้ามีข้อความกำชับไว้ในสมุดแนะนำว่า ‘ไม่อนุญาติให้รับเลี้ยงไปอยู่บ้านที่มีสัตว์อื่นหรือเด็กเล็กอยู่แล้ว’ โดยที่ ‘ไม่มีข้อยกเว้นใดๆทั้งสิ้น’ 😿 คงได้กลับบ้านมากับเราแน่นอน

Travel Diary: Tennessee Waltzing, in Nashville

Trip Date: May 2025

From Memphis, we headed over to Nashville, another major music city that we thoroughly enjoyed, both through our eyes and taste buds. 🥰

เสร็จจากเมมฟิซ เราไปต่อกันที่เมืองแนชวิลล์ อีกเมืองดังของคนรักดนตรี เมืองนี้เราเที่ยวกันทั้งเพลินตาและอร่อยปาก 🥰

Our first stop was Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, right in the middle of town. It was drizzling when we arrived, but we enjoyed strolling through the beautiful World War II Memorial and Roman-style columns in solitude. 😇

จุดแรกไปแวะกันที่ Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ใจกลางเมือง ไปถึงฝนกำลังตกพรำๆ เดินแล้วเฉอะแฉะเล็กน้อย แต่ถ่ายรูปอนุสรณ์สงครามโลกครั้งที่สองและกลุ่มเสาใหญ่สไตล์โรมันได้อย่างสบายใจเพราะไร้ซึ่งผู้คน 😇

Dining at Locust was definitely the main highlight of our entire Nashville trip. 😇 Despite having been fully booked for months, my sneaky husband managed to snag us a spot last minute somehow, and we ended up here at this wonderful venue on our first night. We ordered everything on the menu, except only for the grilled beef rib, which we thought would make the meal a bit too heavy for us. The dishes were not much to look at, but each and every one of them was packed full of flavor. The deconstructed beef tartare handrolls was not only fun to put together, but it was also perfect umami on our palates. We got the chance to chat briefly with award-winning chef Trevor Moran, who very nicely offered us an off-menu item – a beautifully caramelized hamachi collar, just hot of the grill! มื้อเย็นที่ร้าน Locust จัดเป็นไฮไลท์ของทริปเมืองแนชวิลล์เที่ยวนี้จริงๆ 😇 ตอนแรกพยายามจะจอง จองยังไงก็ไม่ได้ เต็มตลอด สุดท้ายคุณสามีไปได้โต๊ะมาไงไม่ทราบแค่ไม่กี่วันก่อนไป เลยได้ไปกินสมใจเป็นมื้อแรกคืนที่ไปถึงที่นั่น เมนูเค้ามาแบบขนาดกะทัดรัด มีให้เลือกไม่กี่อย่าง ดูแล้วเลยตกลงสั่งมาชิมทุกอย่าง อย่างละจาก ยกเว้นแค่ซี่โครงเนื้อวัวที่ฟังดูแล้วท่าจะจานใหญ่ กลัวเดี๋ยวกินไม่หมดจะเสียของ อาหารทยอยมาทีละจาน หน้าตาดูแล้วก็ไม่ค่อยพิเศษอะไร แต่รสชาติเค้าถึงที่ทุกอย่าง โดยเฉพาะข้าวห่อสาหร่ายไส้เนื้อสับ อันนี้แยกมาเป็นอย่างๆ เอามาให้ห่อเองที่โต๊ะ แต่มีวิธีห่อแนบมาให้เป็นขั้นๆพร้อมภาพประกอบ กัดเข้าไปคำแรกคือโอ้พระเจ้าจอร์จมันยอดมาก อันนี้คืออร่อยสุดแล้ว แต่จานอื่นๆก็รสกลมกล่อมสมคำร่ำลือจริงๆ กินไปซักพักเชฟเจ้าของร้านคุณ Trevor Moran เข้ามาทักทาย คุยไปคุยมาบอกว่ามีอาหารนอกเมนู สนใจจะลองมั๊ย เลยได้คอปลาฮามาจิย่างสดๆจากเตามาชิมเพิ่มอีกจาน ของหวานเป็นน้ำแข็งไสสไตล์บิงซูรสราสเบอรรี่ ทั้งกินอิ่มจนท้องจะแตก แต่ก็อดซัดกันไปเกือบหมดถ้วย มื้อนี้อิ่มอร่อยสมใจอยากมาก 😍

I had originally booked the airBnB at Spence Manor purely due to the fact that it came with this cool guitar shaped swimming pool. We ran into an HVAC issue after the first night, so our hostess graciously offered to move us to her other unit in the same building. That was where we came to learn that Elvis had stayed in this very building back when he used to travel to Nashville for recording sessions at RCA Studio B which was right around the corner! 🤯

The Dolly Parton Themed Rooftop Bar, White Limozeen, is located on the rooftop of The Graduate Hotel. The entire space, from the lobby to the bar, was an explosion of colors and funky designs – truly a photographer’s paradise! 😍

ร้าน White Limozeen เป็นบาร์ที่ทำเป็นธีม Dolly Parton ตั้งอยู่ที่ดาดฟ้าของโรงแรม The Graduate Hotel ที่นี่มีมุมสวยๆให้ถ่ายรูปเยอะมากกกกก ตั้งแต่ข้างล่างในล๊อบบี้ไปถึงในบาร์ ของตกแต่งเค้าสีสันสะดุดตา ถ้าใครชอบถ่ายรูปต้องได้กดแชะกันจนเพลินแน่นอน 😍

One of the most offbeat stops we had that day was The Hermitage Hotel. I had specific intel obtained before the trip 🧐 that we needed to ‘check out the men’s bathroom’ on the basement. It was wild. 😅 The ladies room next door did not pale in comparison either! 😉

Last but not least, no trip to Nashville would be complete without a taste of some Nashville hot chicken 🐔! 😉 After thorough research, we decided to go with Red’s Hot Chicken, which was conveniently located right next to Centennial Park. It certainly did not disappoint, definitely as hot 🥵 and tasty as advertised! 😅

ท้ายที่สุด ใครที่ไปเมืองแนชวิลล์ต้องไม่พลาดไปกินไก่ทอดรสเผ็ดสไตล์เมืองแนชวิลล์ 🐔 ที่เลื่องชื่อ 😉 ที่นี่มีร้านดังๆให้เลือกหลายร้านมาก หลังจากที่ค้นคว้าหาข้อมูลมาอย่างละเอียดเลยเลือกไปกันที่ร้าน Red’s Hot Chicken ซึ่งทำเลเหมาะเจาะอยู่ติดกับ Centennial Park ที่เพิ่งไปมาพอดิบพอดี ไปชิมแล้วก็ไม่ผิดหวัง ไก่เค้าอร่อยเผ็ด 🥵 สะเด็ดใจสมคำโฆษณาจริงๆ

Travel Diary: Tennessee Waltzing, in Memphis

We started off our grand tour of Tennessee in Memphis, the city best known as home to the King of Rock & Roll Music 🎶 – the beloved 💕 one and only Elvis Presley.

เราไปเริ่มการตระเวนเที่ยวรัฐเทนเนซซี่กันที่เมืองเมมฟิซ เมืองที่ใครๆรู้จักกันเพราะเป็นที่ตั้งของคฤหาสน์แห่งราชาเพลง 🎶 ร็อคแอนด์โรล คุณเอลวิส เพรสลีย์ ขวัญใจ 💕 แฟนเพลงทั่วโลกนั่นเอง

Our first stop was the Memphis Bass Pro Shop. Not only is this shop located inside the 10th-tallest pyramid in the world, but it also houses a Wahlburgers, a hotel, a bowling alley, a giant aquarium, and a swamp with live alligators! 🤯 We took the elevator up to their observation deck where we caught a beautiful view of the Mississippi River.

We had our first dinner at Good Fortune Co. where the food and drink were way above average, but the highlight of the night for me was this soft serve ice cream topped with housemade chilli oil 😳 which our very lovely bartender/server insisted we just had to try. It did blow my mind away, just like she said it would – truly one of the wildest flavor combinations I had ever encountered! 😆

มื้อเย็นวันแรกเราไปกินกันที่ร้าน Good Fortune Co. ทั้งอาหารและเครื่องดื่มรสชาติน่าประทับใจ แต่ที่ลืมไม่ลงก็คือของหวานปิดท้าย ที่คุณบาร์เทนเดอร์ใจดีแอบเอามาให้ลองชิม เป็นไอศครีมวานิลลาราดหน้าด้วยน้ำมันพริกที่เชฟทำเองกับมือ 😳 ฟังดูแล้วไม่น่าจะเข้ากันได้ แต่กินเข้าไปแล้วสะดุดปุ่มรับรสแบบเหนือความคาดหมาย ประมาณว่าแปลกแต่ดีงาม ตามที่เจ๊แกโฆษณาเอาไว้จริงๆ 😆

No trip to Memphis would be complete without a visit to the infamous Sun Studio, the birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll where many famous artists recorded their hit songs, including Elvis Presley, B.B. King, and Johnny Cash.

My most favorite part of Metal Museum, apart from their very elaborate metal display pieces, was their light switch covers – so unique! 😍

พิพิธภัณฑ์โลหะแห่งนี้มีผลงานสวยๆงามๆให้ชมอยู่หลายชิ้น แต่ที่ประทับใจที่สุดคงจะต้องเป็นฝาครอบสวิตช์ไฟของเค้า ซึ่งแหวกแนวไม่เหมือนใคร แถมยังมีเอกลักษณ์ตรงฉบับตามแผนของสถานที่เป๊ะๆ 😍

Lorraine Motel, famous for being the scene where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. got assassinated, is now part of the National Civil Rights Museum.

โมเตลลอเรน เป็นจุดสำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์เพราะเป็นที่ที่ ดร.มาร์ติน ลูเธอร์ คิง จูเนียร์ ถูกลอบสังหาร ปัจจุบันกลายมาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของ พิพิธภัณฑ์สิทธิพลเมืองแห่งชาติ

At the Peabody Hotel, we took the elevator to check out the Duck 🦆 Palace on the top floor, before coming back down to wait for their popular 5pm duck march. We managed to snag (what we originally thought was) one of the most perfect seats at the bar, with direct view of the red carpet. At the very last minute, this old lady (short white hair with glittery jacket in the picture) decided she would pulled her chair way up front, in the middle of the pathway, blocking our entire view, so she could get a better view than the one she already had (she was sitting just to the side of the very front table). 😐 She did look back and I signaled to her that she was now blocking our view, but she just shrugged, turned away, and never looked back again. 🤦‍♀️ Our lovely waitress offered to call security when she learned of the incident, but my too-nice husband thought it was an overkill to ruin a mean old lady’s evening, ‘just over some ducks’. 🤷‍♀️ I made do by climbing up and stood tiptoeing on my stool, just to get a partial view of the ducks when they started marching down the red carpet, so at least the entire trip was not a total waste! 😓

ที่โรงแรม Peabody ก่อนอื่นเราขึ้นลิฟต์ไปชั้นบนสุดเพื่อไปชมแมนชั่นที่อาศัยของฝูงเป็ด 🦆 ชื่อดังซึ่งเป็นไฮไลท์ของโรงแรมนี้ จากนั้นจึงกลับลงมาที่บาร์ในล๊อบบี้ชั้นล่างเพื่อรอชมน้องเป็ดทั้งหลายเดินตามพรมแดงกลับขึ้นบ้านตอนห้าโมงเย็น มาถึงอุตส่าห์ดีใจว่าได้โต๊ะนั่งวิวดิบดี ถึงจะอยู่หลังบาร์สุด แต่ก็เห็นวิวตอนเค้าเตรียมปูพรมแดงอย่างชัดเจนไม่มีปัญหา แต่ปรากฎว่าก่อนเป็ดจะเดินลงพรมไม่นาน คุณป้าผมขาวแจ๊กเกตเทาเก๋ไก๋ในรูปซึ่งตอนแรกนั่งอยู่บนโซฟาติดข้างโต๊ะตัวหน้าสุดเกิดคิดขึ้นมาได้ว่าวิวชมเป็ดของแกยังไม่เพอร์เฟกต์พอ แกเลยจัดการลากเก้าอี้ไปจอดที่ตรงกลางทางเดินแบบว่าจะเอาทำเลติดพรมแดงเต็มๆ 😐 พอลงไปนั่งปุ๊บแกอุตส่าห์หันกลับมาเช็คดูว่าบังใครรึเปล่า ไอ้เราก็กวักมือบอกว่าแกบังเรา แกสบตาแล้วสะบัดหน้ากลับไปไม่หันกลับมาอีกเลย 🤦‍♀️ คุณน้องคนเสิร์ฟที่น่ารักเห็นเหตุการณ์เข้าเลยอาสาจะไปเรียกยามมาจัดการให้ แต่คุณสามีที่น่ารักของเราเกิดใจดีบอกไปว่าอย่าไปไล่ป้าแกเลย ปล่อยแกดูเป็ดไปให้สบายใจเหอะ 🤷‍♀️ สุดท้ายตอนเป็ดมาอิฉันเลยต้องตะกายขึ้นเก้าอี้เขย่งเขย่อจนขาแข็งให้ได้เห็นไรขนของน้องเป็ดเพื่อที่จะได้ไม่มาเสียเที่ยว 😓

Stopping by to check out the goat 🐐 tower at Silky O’Sullivan’s. Too bad they do not allow customers to feed beer to the goats any more! 😅

Dinner at Blues City Cafe, famous for BBQ ribs, seafood gumbo, and apple dumplings served in a cast iron skillet. 🤤

มาชิมซี่โครงหมูย่างเลื่องชื่อ กับซุปกัมโบทะเล และพายแอปเปิ้ลราดไอศครีมเสิร์ฟมาในกะทะร้อน ที่ร้าน Blues City Cafe 🤤

Of course, we had to visit Elvis’ home at Graceland! 😆 We were just not thrilled to be charged $10 parking fee on top of the already exorbitant ticket price! 🙄

และแน่นอนว่ามาถึงเมืองเมมฟิซทั้งทีก็จำเป็นต้องไปเยี่ยมบ้านคุณเอลวิสที่ Graceland กัน 😆 ขอแอบบ่นว่านอกจากตั๋วเข้าชมจะแพงหูฉี่แล้ว เค้ายังเก็บค่าจอดรถเราอีกตั้ง 10 เหรียญตอนไปถึง 🙄

Our last stop in Memphis, before we moved on to Nashville, was the Crystal Shrine Grotto, which, according to its web site, claimed to be ‘the only man-made crystal cave in the world‘. This beautiful piece of architectural artwork is located inside Memphis Memorial Park Cemetery. 😍

After spending the whole week in the lovely state of Maine, we slowly made our way down south to catch our flight home from Boston. Of course, we did make several stops along the way. ☺️

Our hotel, Seaport Hotel® Boston, was right by Boston Harbor. We got great views both from our window, and from the walks to and from the hotel on our few excursions to other parts of the city.

โรงแรมที่เลือกไปอยู่คือ Seaport Hotel® Boston ตั้งอยู่ติดกับท่าเรือ เลยได้ชมวิวสวยๆทั้งจากบนห้องพัก และเวลาเดินไปกลับโรงแรมหลังจากไปเตร็ดเตร่ในเมือง

Last but certainly not least, I was very happy to have the chance to follow our beloved king, Rama 9, along his footsteps in Cambridge, MA. We visited King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand Square, saw the room where he was born at Mount Auburn Hospital, and checked out a few residences where the royal family stayed during their time in the area. 😇

ท้ายที่สุด แต่เป็นอะไรที่ภูมิใจนำเสนอมากคือว่า ทริปนี้เป็นปลื้มปิติมากที่ได้มีโอกาสไปเดินตามรอยพระบาทของในหลวงรัชกาลที่ 9 ที่เมืองเคมบริดจ์ เราแวะไปเยี่ยมจัตุรัส King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand ไปชมอาคารและห้องอาคารที่เป็นสถานที่พระราชสมภพของท่านที่โรงพยาบาล Mount Auburn แถมยังไปแอบชมบ้านที่เคยเป็นที่ประทับของครอบครัวของท่านอีกด้วย 😇

Since we spent a whopping four nights here in Portland, it’s only fair that it deserves its own dedicated post. 😉

อยู่เมือง Portland กันตั้งสี่คืน เลยรู้สึกว่าต้องมีโพสให้เป็นการส่วนตัวซะหน่อย 😉

First of all, this is our awesome pad where we cozied up for 4 nights, working during the days and wandering in the evenings. 😍

ก่อนอื่นขอนำเสนอที่พักแสนสบายที่เป็นบ้านจำเป็นตลอดช่วงเวลาสี่วันสี่คืน ไม่ได้หรูหราอะไร แต่มีสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกครบครัน เหมาะเจาะกับที่วางแผนมาทำงานช่วงกลางวัน แล้วออกไปเตร็ดเตร่หลังเลิกงาน 😍

Trying donuts 🍩 from The Holy Donut, proudly made from Maine potatoes 🥔. 😳 This sounded weird, but they were indeed very tasty, as advertised! 😋

ไปลองชิมโดนัท 🍩 ที่ร้าน The Holy Donut ของที่นี่เค้าทำมาจากมันฝรั่ง 🥔 ที่ปลูกในรัฐเมนโดยเฉพาะ ฟังดูแล้วไม่ค่อยน่าทาน แต่ลองแล้วขอบอกว่ามันนุ่มปาก อร่อยสมคำร่ำลือจริงๆ 😋

Cundy’s Harbor, a sleepy fishing village with rocky shoreline, is where we started off our tour of Southern Coast Maine.

Another lobster lunch at Erica’s Seafood, in Harpswell – this time we mixed in a crab 🦀 roll and a blueberry 🫐 crumb cake, just to take some edge off that repetitive lobster 🦞 diet! 😅

เดินป่าท่ามกลางสายฝน 🌧 พรำที่ Cliff Trail ซึ่งอยู่ในเมือง Harpswell เช่นกัน

Stops in Freeport included a brief stop at the very unique Freeport McDonald’s, the giant bean boot at the L.L.Bean Flagship Store (can you believe they are open 24/7!? 🤯), and lunch (or possible dinner 😅) at Freeport Oyster Bar.

ที่เมือง Freeport เราไปแวะดูร้านแมคโดนัลด์ที่หน้าตาแปลกประหลาดไปกว่าร้านปรกติทั่วไป แวะถ่ายรูปกับรองเท้าบู๊ตอันโตหน้าร้าน L.L.Bean สาขาดั้งเดิม (เพิ่งรู้ว่าสาขานี้เค้าเปิด 24 ชั่วโมงตลอดทั้งปี ไม่มีหยุดซักวัน 🤯) ก่อนจะไปแวะทานข้าวกลางวัน (หรือเย็นก็ไม่แน่ใจ 😅) ที่ร้าน Freeport Oyster Bar

It’s almost time to set out on a new summer trip, and I just realized that I never finished the posts from our last trip! 😛

กำลังเตรียมตัวจะไปซัมเมอร์ทริปปีนี้ เลยเพิ่งนึกขึ้นได้ว่าทริปจากปีที่แล้วโพสต์ค้างไว้ยังไม่จบเลย 😛

Our first stop in the beautiful state of Maine was Red’s Eats – arguably the most famous lobster shack in town, depending on who you ask. 😆 We arrived less than half an hour before closing time, and the line was still wrapped all around the block. After more than an hour wait, we finally got to taste their famous lobster 🦞 roll, which certainly did not disappoint.

มาถึงรัฐเมน ต้องแวะกินล็อบสเตอร์ก่อนเป็นอันดับแรกที่ร้าน Red’s Eats ซึ่งขึ้นชื่อว่าเป็นร้านล็อบสเตอร์ที่ดังที่สุดในละแวกนี้ ไปถึงก่อนเค้าปิดร้านประมาณยี่สิบนาที แถวยังยาวเหยียดอ้อมไปถึงหลังร้าน 😆 ยืนรออยู่ประมาณชั่วโมงกว่าถึงได้กินแซนด์วิชล็อบสเตอร์ 🦞 ที่เค้าว่ากันว่าอร่อยนักหนา ชิมแล้วก็อร่อยจริง 😍 แต่ไม่แน่ใจเหมือนกันว่าคุ้มค่ารอรึเปล่า

After that, we took a stroll around the picturesque town of Wiscasset to digest the food.

We opted to walk from our motel to dinner, checking out cute waterfront shops by the harbor along the way.

เช็คอินเสร็จแล้วยังมีเวลาเหลือก่อนอาหารเย็น เลยค่อยๆเดินชมห้างร้านและทิวทัศน์แถวท่าเรือระหว่างทางไปร้านอาหาร

Dinner at Thistle Inn was every bit as scrumptious as promised by several sources! 😋

อาหารเย็นที่ร้าน Thistle Inn ที่หลายกระแสแนะนำมา ไปลองมาแล้วขอรับรองว่าอร่อยจริงสมคำร่ำลือ 😋

The next day, we headed out to Coastal Maine Botanical Garden, where there happened to be FIVE trolls 😳 by none other than our beloved Thomas Dambo. This was a wonderful surprise, since I did not know before booking this trip we would be seeing this many trolls stateside! It was, however, not as fun of a hunt as the ones we did in Denmark… 😕 These trolls were not ‘hidden’ at all and each was plagued by little people climbing everywhere. 😅

วันต่อมาเราไปเดินชมสวนพฤกษศาสตร์ Coastal Maine Botanical Garden ก่อนไปไม่นานถึงได้รู้ว่าเค้ามียักษ์ใหญ่ใจดีของคุณ โทมัส แดมโบ ที่เราไปตระเวนหาที่เดนมาร์กกันมาอยู่ที่สวนนี้ถึงห้าตัวด้วยกัน 😳 อุตส่าห์ดีใจใหญ่ เพราะไม่คิดว่าที่ประเทศนี้จะมีชุกชุมขนาดนี้ แต่ไปถึงแล้วแอบผิดหวังเล็กๆ เพราะยักษ์พวกนี้มีป้ายบอกทางให้เสร็จสรรพ ไม่ต้องใช้ความพยายามตามหาเลยแม้แต่น้อย 😕 แถมไปถึงยังต้องไปสู้รบกับบรรดาเด็กน้อยที่แย่งกันปีนป่าย กว่าจะได้ถ่ายรูปแบบไม่มีสิ่งรบกวนก็ต้องยืนรออยู่นาน 😅
