Travel Diary: Gorgeous Days at Columbia River Gorge

We managed to arrive in Portland, Oregon for our Fall trip this past year amidst the meteorological condition known as the ‘atmospheric river’ effect. 😓 Apparently, I learned a little too late that this time of the year is possibly the worst time to be in the state of Oregon 😆, since it usually rains non-stop from late October until the end of February. My intention was to go see the beautiful Fall colors 🍁 there, and hence we timed our arrival to hopefully catch the perfect window of Autumn glory. On that front, I’m happy to report that we weren’t too far off, as evident from the first glimpses off the plane during our landing in PDX. 🥰 We just didn’t account for the amount of precipitation we would encounter there… 😐

ทริปฤดูใบไม้ร่วงปีที่ผ่านมา เราเลือกไปเที่ยวกันที่รัฐโอเรกอน ไปถึงเมืองพอร์ตแลนด์ได้ฤกษ์เหมาะเจาะกับที่ละแวกนั้นกำลังเจอปรากฎการณ์ที่เค้าเรียกกันว่า “แม่น้ำบนท้องฟ้า” มาถล่มอยู่ 😓 ก่อนไปไม่เคยรู้เลยว่าหน้านี้เป็นช่วงที่ไม่มีใครไปเยือนรัฐนี้กัน เพราะปรกติแล้วฝนจะตกแบบไม่หยุดหย่อนตั้งแต่ปลายเดือนตุลาไปจนถึงสิ้นเดือนกุมภา 😆 ที่ตั้งใจเลือกไปช่วงนั้นก็เพราะว่าอยากจะไปดูใบไม้เปลี่ยนสี 🍁 ที่นั่น เลยกะไปให้ถึงตอนช่วงที่สีสันกำลังสวยได้ที่ ซึ่งก็ถือว่าเล็งได้เกือบจะพอเหมาะพอดีอยู่ตามที่เห็นจากบนฟ้าเวลาเครื่องกำลังแลนด์ที่สนามบิน 🥰 แต่ไม่ได้กะจะไปเจอฝนถล่มทลายอย่างที่ไปเจอมา 😐

Our first stop was Level Beer where we sipped on some cold beers 🍻, accompanied by delicious lunch from The Shuck Truck 🦪.

On the way to our airBnB in Sandy, we stopped by to grab some yummy Thai dinner from Lily Market Oriental Food & Gifts.

จากนั้นเราแวะไปซื้อเสบียงอาหารไทยเป็นมื้อเย็นที่ร้าน Lily Market Oriental Food & Gifts ก่อนจะมุ่งหน้าไปสู่ที่พักที่เมือง Sandy

The next day, we started off our very saturated tour of the Columbia River Gorge, in full rain gear, at Crown Point Vista House.

วันรุ่งขึ้นเราแต่งตัวพร้อมรับฝนไปเที่ยวชม หุบเขาริมแม่น้ำโคลัมเบีย โดยมี Crown Point Vista House เป็นจุดหมายอันดับแรก

From there, we moved on to the infamous Multnomah Falls, where we were lucky enough to snag one of the very few available spots in the parking lot, very likely due to the pouring rain. 🙄 Silver lining, I suppose! 😆

เสร็จแล้วเราไปต่อกันที่ น้ำตก Multnomah ซึ่งใครไปแถวนั้นถือว่าห้ามพลาด ดีว่าฝนกำลังตกกระหน่ำเลยหาที่จอดรถได้ไม่มีปัญหา 🙄 สรุปว่ามาวันฝนตกนี่ก็ดีไปอีกแบบ 😆

For lunch, we doubled back down the I-84 to Sugarpine Drive-In, which was the most recommended spot in the area. The food there certainly lived up to the hype, I would say! 😉

ดูน้ำตกเสร็จเราย้อนรถกลับบนเส้นไฮเวย์ 84 ไปกินข้าวกลางวันกันที่ Sugarpine Drive-In ซึ่งเป็นร้านยอดนิยมในละแวกนี้ ต้องบอกว่าอาหารเค้ารสชาติกลมกล่อมสมคำร่ำลือจริงๆ 😉

After fueling up, we went back on the wet tour, continuing on to Horsetail & Ponytail Falls. Horsetail Falls is just right across the street from the parking lot. For Ponytail, we had to take a short hike up to a very cool viewing point from within a cave, with a beautiful view of the Columbia River on the way.

หลังจากเติมพลังกันแล้ว เรากลับไปทัวร์สู้ฝนกันต่อที่ น้ำตก Horsetail กับ น้ำตก Ponytail อันแรกนี่ไม่ต้องเดิน จอดรถปุ๊บข้ามถนนมาก็เห็น ส่วนอีกอันต้องเดินขึ้นเขาเล็กน้อยไปดูเอาจากในถ้ำ ระหว่างทางจะเห็นวิวแม่น้ำโคลัมเบียที่ข้ามฝั่งไปเป็นรัฐวอชิงตัน

We grabbed a few apples and a delicious apple cider from Draper Girls Country Farm, this very pretty store on the Hood River Fruit Loop. But, we learned later that their prices did come with a premium to match the charming decor! 😆

ไปแวะซื้อแอปเปิ้ลแบบเก็บมาสดๆ กับน้ำแอปเปิ้ลไซเดอร์แสนอร่อยที่ Draper Girls Country Farm ซึ่งมีหน้าร้านเก๋ไก๋ตั้งอยู่บนเส้นวงแหวนสวนผลไม้ Hood River แต่ซื้อมาแล้วแอบมารู้ที่หลังว่าราคาเค้าตั้งไว้แบบพรีเมี่ยมสมกับความสวยงามของร้าน 😆

The next spot, Mt View Orchard, did not have all the frills and thrills like the last one, but still, they have gorgeous views all around, AND, the apples (same variety, equally good-looking) were about half the price we paid! 🤣

ที่มารู้ก็เพราะมาแวะกันอีกทีที่ Mt View Orchard ซึ่งไม่มีหน้าร้านสวยๆเหมือนอันที่แล้ว แต่วิวรอบข้างสวยงามไม่แพ้กัน แถมราคาแอปเปิ้ลที่นี่ (พันธุ์เดียวๆกัน ดูสดใหม่ไม่แพ้กัน) ก็ลดลงไปกว่าครึ่งเทียบกับที่เราไปซื้อมา 🤣

I originally planned to have lunch at Broder Øst, a cute Scandinavian cafe located inside Hood River Hotel, but quickly realized that we would never get there in time before they closed at 2:30 pm. 😓 Hence, the turnaround to dine at Sugarpine Drive-In earlier in the day instead. ☺️ We did still stop by to check out the historic hotel, which was the oldest in Hood River. Pro tip: If you do not want to take the creepy tiny ancient elevator up to grab the bird’s eye view of the lobby from the second floor, there are stairs around the corner that take you to the same spot! 😉

ตอนแรกตั้งใจจะไปกินกลางวันกันที่ร้าน Broder Øst ซึ่งเป็นคาเฟ่สไตล์สแกนดิเนเวียร์ที่ตั้งอยู่ในโรงแรม Hood River โรงแรมที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดของเมืองนี้ แต่ดูเวลาแล้วยังไงก็ไปไม่ทันเค้าปิดตอนบ่ายสองครึ่งแน่นอน 😓 ถึงได้ตัดสินใจย้อนรถกลับไปกินที่ร้าน Sugarpine Drive-In กันแทน ☺️ แล้วถึงมาแวะชมโรงแรมกันเฉยๆเอาตอนบ่ายแก่ๆ ถ้ามีโอกาสมาแล้วอยากขึ้นไปเก็บรูปล๊อบบี้ของโรงแรมจากชั้นสอง ขอแอบกระซิบว่า ไม่ต้องขึ้นลิฟต์เก่าแก่ที่ครืดคราดน่ากลัวไปก็ได้ เค้ามีบันไดให้เดินขึ้นไปได้อยู่ด้านหลัง 😉

Our last stop of the day was Bridge of the Gods in Cascade Locks. This was where Reese Witherspoon, a.k.a. Cheryl Strayed, completed her 1,100-mile Pacific Crest Trail hike in the 2014 movie Wild. 😇

จุดแวะสุดท้ายของเราวันนั้นคือ Bridge of the Gods ที่เมือง Cascade Locks นี่เป็นจุดสิ้นสุดการเดินป่า 1,100 ไมล์บนเส้น Pacific Crest Trail ในหนังดังจากปี 2014 เรื่อง Wild ที่คุณ Reese Witherspoon หรือตามชื่อในเรื่องคือ Cheryl Strayed ไปถึงตอนท้ายเรื่องก่อนจบ 😇

The next morning, we spent a few minutes checking out the lush green property of our cozy airBnB. The mycelium 🍄 population in the area was definitely thriving in the rainy conditions! 😍

We were going to go check out the Overlook Hotel in The Shining, but realized the mountain was covered in several inches of snow… 😓 Since we weren’t sure if our rental car could handle the winter conditions safely, we decided to skip it and head straight to Trillium Lake instead.

จริงๆแล้วตั้งใจจะไปเยี่ยมชมโรงแรม Timberline Lodge ซึ่งเป็นที่ถ่ายทำโรงแรม Overlook ในหนังดังเรื่อง The Shining แต่ฟังจากวิทยุเค้าว่าคืนก่อนหน้าที่เราจะไปหิมะตกหนัก 😓 เลยไม่แน่ใจว่ารถจะไปไหวรึเปล่า สุดท้ายเลยตัดสินใจไม่แวะตรงไปที่ Trillium Lake เลย

This beautiful lake was supposed to be one of the best spots in the area for the view of Mount Hood, but unfortunately that wasn’t in the cards the day we were there. 🥺

Travel Diary: Tennessee Waltzing, in Memphis

We started off our grand tour of Tennessee in Memphis, the city best known as home to the King of Rock & Roll Music 🎶 – the beloved 💕 one and only Elvis Presley.

เราไปเริ่มการตระเวนเที่ยวรัฐเทนเนซซี่กันที่เมืองเมมฟิซ เมืองที่ใครๆรู้จักกันเพราะเป็นที่ตั้งของคฤหาสน์แห่งราชาเพลง 🎶 ร็อคแอนด์โรล คุณเอลวิส เพรสลีย์ ขวัญใจ 💕 แฟนเพลงทั่วโลกนั่นเอง

Our first stop was the Memphis Bass Pro Shop. Not only is this shop located inside the 10th-tallest pyramid in the world, but it also houses a Wahlburgers, a hotel, a bowling alley, a giant aquarium, and a swamp with live alligators! 🤯 We took the elevator up to their observation deck where we caught a beautiful view of the Mississippi River.

จุดแวะแรกเป็นร้าน Bass Pro สาขาเมืองเมมฟิซ ซึ่งนอกจากจะตั้งอยู่ภายในปิรามิดที่มีความสูงเป็นอันดับที่สิบของโลกแล้ว ภายในยังเพียบพร้อมไปด้วยร้าน Wahlburgers ชื่อดัง โรงแรมที่พัก สนามโบว์ลิง ตู้ปลาขนาดมหึมา แถมยังมีบึงจระเข้ที่มีจระเข้เป็นๆว่ายน้ำไปมาให้ชมอีกด้วย 🤯 เราขึ้นลิฟต์ไปที่จุดชมวิวบนยอดปิรามิดเพื่อไปชมวิวสวยๆเลียบฝั่งแม่น้ำมิซซิสซิปปี้กันก่อนกลับ

We had our first dinner at Good Fortune Co. where the food and drink were way above average, but the highlight of the night for me was this soft serve ice cream topped with housemade chilli oil 😳 which our very lovely bartender/server insisted we just had to try. It did blow my mind away, just like she said it would – truly one of the wildest flavor combinations I had ever encountered! 😆

มื้อเย็นวันแรกเราไปกินกันที่ร้าน Good Fortune Co. ทั้งอาหารและเครื่องดื่มรสชาติน่าประทับใจ แต่ที่ลืมไม่ลงก็คือของหวานปิดท้าย ที่คุณบาร์เทนเดอร์ใจดีแอบเอามาให้ลองชิม เป็นไอศครีมวานิลลาราดหน้าด้วยน้ำมันพริกที่เชฟทำเองกับมือ 😳 ฟังดูแล้วไม่น่าจะเข้ากันได้ แต่กินเข้าไปแล้วสะดุดปุ่มรับรสแบบเหนือความคาดหมาย ประมาณว่าแปลกแต่ดีงาม ตามที่เจ๊แกโฆษณาเอาไว้จริงๆ 😆

No trip to Memphis would be complete without a visit to the infamous Sun Studio, the birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll where many famous artists recorded their hit songs, including Elvis Presley, B.B. King, and Johnny Cash.

The beautiful Elmwood Cemetery is the final resting place for many notable figures.

My most favorite part of Metal Museum, apart from their very elaborate metal display pieces, was their light switch covers – so unique! 😍

พิพิธภัณฑ์โลหะแห่งนี้มีผลงานสวยๆงามๆให้ชมอยู่หลายชิ้น แต่ที่ประทับใจที่สุดคงจะต้องเป็นฝาครอบสวิตช์ไฟของเค้า ซึ่งแหวกแนวไม่เหมือนใคร แถมยังมีเอกลักษณ์ตรงฉบับตามแผนของสถานที่เป๊ะๆ 😍

Lorraine Motel, famous for being the scene where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. got assassinated, is now part of the National Civil Rights Museum.

โมเตลลอเรน เป็นจุดสำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์เพราะเป็นที่ที่ ดร.มาร์ติน ลูเธอร์ คิง จูเนียร์ ถูกลอบสังหาร ปัจจุบันกลายมาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของ พิพิธภัณฑ์สิทธิพลเมืองแห่งชาติ

At the Peabody Hotel, we took the elevator to check out the Duck 🦆 Palace on the top floor, before coming back down to wait for their popular 5pm duck march. We managed to snag (what we originally thought was) one of the most perfect seats at the bar, with direct view of the red carpet. At the very last minute, this old lady (short white hair with glittery jacket in the picture) decided she would pulled her chair way up front, in the middle of the pathway, blocking our entire view, so she could get a better view than the one she already had (she was sitting just to the side of the very front table). 😐 She did look back and I signaled to her that she was now blocking our view, but she just shrugged, turned away, and never looked back again. 🤦‍♀️ Our lovely waitress offered to call security when she learned of the incident, but my too-nice husband thought it was an overkill to ruin a mean old lady’s evening, ‘just over some ducks’. 🤷‍♀️ I made do by climbing up and stood tiptoeing on my stool, just to get a partial view of the ducks when they started marching down the red carpet, so at least the entire trip was not a total waste! 😓

ที่โรงแรม Peabody ก่อนอื่นเราขึ้นลิฟต์ไปชั้นบนสุดเพื่อไปชมแมนชั่นที่อาศัยของฝูงเป็ด 🦆 ชื่อดังซึ่งเป็นไฮไลท์ของโรงแรมนี้ จากนั้นจึงกลับลงมาที่บาร์ในล๊อบบี้ชั้นล่างเพื่อรอชมน้องเป็ดทั้งหลายเดินตามพรมแดงกลับขึ้นบ้านตอนห้าโมงเย็น มาถึงอุตส่าห์ดีใจว่าได้โต๊ะนั่งวิวดิบดี ถึงจะอยู่หลังบาร์สุด แต่ก็เห็นวิวตอนเค้าเตรียมปูพรมแดงอย่างชัดเจนไม่มีปัญหา แต่ปรากฎว่าก่อนเป็ดจะเดินลงพรมไม่นาน คุณป้าผมขาวแจ๊กเกตเทาเก๋ไก๋ในรูปซึ่งตอนแรกนั่งอยู่บนโซฟาติดข้างโต๊ะตัวหน้าสุดเกิดคิดขึ้นมาได้ว่าวิวชมเป็ดของแกยังไม่เพอร์เฟกต์พอ แกเลยจัดการลากเก้าอี้ไปจอดที่ตรงกลางทางเดินแบบว่าจะเอาทำเลติดพรมแดงเต็มๆ 😐 พอลงไปนั่งปุ๊บแกอุตส่าห์หันกลับมาเช็คดูว่าบังใครรึเปล่า ไอ้เราก็กวักมือบอกว่าแกบังเรา แกสบตาแล้วสะบัดหน้ากลับไปไม่หันกลับมาอีกเลย 🤦‍♀️ คุณน้องคนเสิร์ฟที่น่ารักเห็นเหตุการณ์เข้าเลยอาสาจะไปเรียกยามมาจัดการให้ แต่คุณสามีที่น่ารักของเราเกิดใจดีบอกไปว่าอย่าไปไล่ป้าแกเลย ปล่อยแกดูเป็ดไปให้สบายใจเหอะ 🤷‍♀️ สุดท้ายตอนเป็ดมาอิฉันเลยต้องตะกายขึ้นเก้าอี้เขย่งเขย่อจนขาแข็งให้ได้เห็นไรขนของน้องเป็ดเพื่อที่จะได้ไม่มาเสียเที่ยว 😓

Stopping by to check out the goat 🐐 tower at Silky O’Sullivan’s. Too bad they do not allow customers to feed beer to the goats any more! 😅

แวะไปดูหอคอยแพะ 🐐 ขี้เมาที่หลังร้าน Silky O’Sullivan’s เสียดายที่เดี๋ยวนี้เค้าห้ามไม่ให้ลูกค้าเอาเบียร์ให้แพะกินแล้ว 😅

Beale Street – the main party scene! 🥳

ถนน Beale เป็นจุดที่นักท่องเที่ยวมาปาร์ตี้กัน 🥳

Dinner at Blues City Cafe, famous for BBQ ribs, seafood gumbo, and apple dumplings served in a cast iron skillet. 🤤

มาชิมซี่โครงหมูย่างเลื่องชื่อ กับซุปกัมโบทะเล และพายแอปเปิ้ลราดไอศครีมเสิร์ฟมาในกะทะร้อน ที่ร้าน Blues City Cafe 🤤

Of course, we had to visit Elvis’ home at Graceland! 😆 We were just not thrilled to be charged $10 parking fee on top of the already exorbitant ticket price! 🙄

และแน่นอนว่ามาถึงเมืองเมมฟิซทั้งทีก็จำเป็นต้องไปเยี่ยมบ้านคุณเอลวิสที่ Graceland กัน 😆 ขอแอบบ่นว่านอกจากตั๋วเข้าชมจะแพงหูฉี่แล้ว เค้ายังเก็บค่าจอดรถเราอีกตั้ง 10 เหรียญตอนไปถึง 🙄

Our last stop in Memphis, before we moved on to Nashville, was the Crystal Shrine Grotto, which, according to its web site, claimed to be ‘the only man-made crystal cave in the world‘. This beautiful piece of architectural artwork is located inside Memphis Memorial Park Cemetery. 😍

จุดแวะสุดท้ายก่อนเราจะออกเดินทางจากเมืองเมมฟิซไปยังเมืองแนชวิลล์เป็น ถ้ำสุสานคริสตัล ที่คนสร้างเค้าว่าเป็นถ้ำคริสตัลแห่งเดียวในโลกที่สร้างโดยมนุษย์ ผลงานศิลปะทางสถาปัตยกรรมอันสวยงามแห่งนี้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของสุสาน Memphis Memorial Park 😍

Bye Bye, Mushroom!

There has not been a single drop of rain here since the first week of August. 😔 Unsurprisingly, the mushroom population in this area has greatly dwindled since its hay days of last month. Oddly enough, the weather has been pretty nice for the past week, perfect condition for foraging trips, except only for the fact that there was barely any mushrooms on the dry, parched forest floors. 😆 Still, I gave it a try almost every day anyway. 🤷‍♀️

ตั้งแต่พายุเฮอริเคนมาเยือนเมื่อสัปดาห์แรกของเดือนสิงหา ก็ไม่มีฝนตกมาให้เห็นอีกซักหยด 😔 เห็ดเหิดแถวนี้หายหดกันไปเกือบหมดป่า ทั้งที่อากาศกำลังดี ไม่ร้อนจนเกินไป เหมาะแก่การเข้าป่าหาเห็ดเป็นอย่างยิ่ง ติดอยู่ก็แต่ว่าไม่มีเห็ดจะให้หาซักเท่าไหร่ 😆 แต่เรายึดหลักการไม่ย่อท้อ เลยดึงดันออกไปส่องเห็ดเกือบทุกวันอยู่ดี 🤷‍♀️

Day One – a walk nearby on my regular route, with the best find being the recurring Oyster flush on the same log I stumbled upon last year. 🥰

วันแรกออกไปเดินใกล้บ้าน ไปเจอเห็ดนางฟ้าตรงขอนไม้อันเดียวกับที่ไปเจอมาเมื่อปีที่แล้ว 🥰

Day Two – another walk nearby, with the highlights including my very first score of an Old Man of the Woods 🥳.

วันที่สองกลับไปดูอีกฝั่งใกล้บ้าน คราวนี้โชคดีไปเจอเห็ดตาแก่ อันนี้ดีใจมากเพราะไม่เคยเจอมาก่อน 🥳

Day Three – another Indigo Milk Cap found on Cary Greenway 😍

วันที่สามเดินไกลออกไปหน่อย วันนี้ไปเจอเห็ดน้ำนมสีครามอีกดอกที่บนเส้น Cary Greenway 😍

Day Four – yet another walk after work, and another Old Man of the Woods score, I also went back and harvested the Cinnabars I found the other day! 😎

วันที่สี่ ออกไปสำรวจที่เดิมอีกรอบ ไปเจอเห็ดตาแก่อีกดอก แล้วก็กลับไปเก็บเห็ดมันปูสีส้มที่ไปเจอเมื่อวันก่อนกลับมากิน 😎

Day Five – back to Lake Johnson on a busted Chicken of the Woods lead 🤪, but there was a flush of Oysters, and what looked to me like an old Pheasant Back cluster, but I’m not 100% sure. 😛

วันต่อมาเราขับรถไปที่ Lake Johnson เพราะมีสายรายงานมาว่ามีเห็ดไก่ป่าซ่อนอยู่ริมน้ำ ไปหาจนเจอตอไม้ที่เค้าว่า แต่ตัวเห็ดถูกมือดีฉกไปซะแล้ว 🤪 แต่ยังไงก็ยังไปเจอเห็ดนางฟ้ากอใหญ่ และเห็ดอีกอันที่ดูคล้ายแต่ไม่แน่ใจเหมือนกันว่าเป็นเห็ดหลังไก่ฟ้ารึเปล่า 😛

Last attempt, just this past Saturday, at Piedmont Nature Trails in Chapel Hill. It has been quite a while since we were last there and it was quite surprising to find that the Elephant Rock Trail has been rerouted due to an ongoing sewer line project. 😳 Again, subpar mushroom scene beside this decaying Earth Ball that exploded into a muddy slime when I squeezed it open 😅. Although we did find these beautiful wild orchids (?), an animal skull of some sort, with another piece of jaw bone nearby 😬, and these odd bulges on a fallen branch that could easily pass for a couple of mushrooms. 😆

สุดท้ายเมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ผ่านมาลองไปเดินป่ากันที่ Piedmont Nature Trails ที่เมือง Chapel Hill ไม่ได้ไปตั้งนานปรากฏว่าไปได้ครึ่งทางไปเจอเค้าปิดเส้น Elephant Rock เพื่อขุดทำท่อระบายน้ำใหม่ เลยต้องเลี้ยวไปอีกทาง 😳 ประชากรเห็ดแถบนี้เบาบางมาก แต่ก็ยังอุตส่าห์ไปเจอเห็ดเผาะลูกเหลืองๆสองลูกนี้ที่ไปลองบีบดูแล้วมีน้ำเหลวสีขุ่นโคลนไหลเยิ้มออกมา 😅 นอกจากนี้ก็มีดอกกล้วยไม้ป่าสีม่วงสามดอกอยู่กลางป่า โครงกระโหลกตัวอะไรไม่ทราบ แล้วยังมีกระดูกขากรรไกรล่างที่วางอยู่ไม่ไกล คาดว่าจะมาจากเจ้าของเดียวกัน 😬 อ้อ ยังมีขอนไม้ริมน้ำกับก้อนปูดโปนสองก้อนที่ดูเผินๆนึกว่าเป็นเห็ด 😆

I’m afraid any further foraging attempts will need to be delayed until Mother Nature decides to bestow upon us some much needed rain blessings. 😐 Hopefully in the near future! 🤞😊

Travel Diary: The Ultimate Fall Foliage in New England, Day 2

After the rather yummy breakfast at the Sutton House, we took a quick stroll through their beautiful garden before setting out on our second day of the trip.

หลังจากทานข้าวเช้าอร่อยๆที่ Sutton House แล้ว เราแวะไปเดินชมสวนสวยๆของเค้าก่อนออกเดินทางไปตะลุยต่อกันวันที่สองของทริป

Our first stop was in the nearby town of Sandwich, where we started off with some picture perfect fall vibes. 😍 No, the twinsie Allbirds sneakers were not pre-arranged! 😆

ไปแวะเก็บภาพบรรยากาศฤดูใบไม้ร่วงสวยๆกันที่แรกที่เมืองแซนด์วิช 😍 จะเห็นได้ว่าป้าสองคนใส่รองเท้ายี่ห้อเดียวกันมาโดยมิได้นัดหมาย 😆

Thompson Sanctuary was not quite at its peak, but still very pretty nonetheless! 😇

A quick photo op at Silver Lake Railroad, and Silver Lake, right across the street from it, in Madison.

Then, lunch at this super cute Stairway Cafe in North Conway.

To take a break from all the driving, we hopped on this one-hour scenic ride with Conway Scenic Railroad. The one very cool thing about this train, that I only discovered midway through the ride after seeing another fellow travelling party demonstrating the trick 😛, was that the seats can be flipped back the other way, so that you do not have to ride backwards on the return trip (after the train does an about-face and heads back on the same track). The view would have been much prettier if we were to catch the leaves at their peak colors, but still, it was a very enjoyable trip. 😆

ก่อนจะพักขับรถยนต์ ไปนั่งรถไฟชมวิวกันกับ Conway Scenic Railroad เก้าอี้ที่นั่งบนรถไฟขบวนนี้มีดีตรงที่ว่าพับกลับไปเอนอีกข้างได้ คือจริงๆแล้วไม่รู้หรอก แต่แอบไปเห็นลุงข้างหลังสาธิตให้ดู เลยเลียนแบบเค้าเอา 😛 ตอนขากลับเลยไม่ต้องนั่งกลับหลังให้เวียนหัว จริงๆแล้วถ้ามาตอนใบไม้สีจัดจ้านเต็มๆคงจะงามกว่านี้หลายเท่า แต่อย่างน้อยได้นั่งชมวิวสบายๆเป็นชั่วโมงก็เพลินดีอยู่ 😆

Finally, we set off on the infamous Kancamagus Highway, which was deemed one of the prettiest fall foliage drives in New Hampshire.

สุดท้ายเราไปขับรถชมวิวกันต่อที่ Kancamagus Highway ซึ่งเค้าว่ากันว่าเป็นไฮเวย์เส้นที่สวยที่สุดสำหรับการชมใบไม้เปลี่ยนสีที่รัฐนิวแฮมเชียร์แห่งนี้

The Albany Covered Bridge – one of the most picturesque bridges in New England! 🥰

…before we had to hurry to get to our last leaf peeping stop at Rocky Gorge Scenic Area before sunset! 😅

ก่อนจะรีบบึ่งไปจุดแวะชมใบไม้จุดสุดท้ายของวันนั้นที่ Rocky Gorge Scenic Area ให้ทันก่อนพระอาทิตย์จะตก 😅

Sunday Hike: Duke Forest at Korstian Division

We finally made it back to the trail this weekend after a long hiatus due to travels and back-to-back rain cancellation. Our Falls Series Hiking group led us to the Korstian Division of Duke Forest in Durham on this fine Sunday that featured perfect hiking weather. This sign was greeting us upon arrival – I love their euphemism that basically says the forest is closed so that deers can be shot down because there are just too many of them! 😂

ในที่สุดเราก็ได้มีโอกาสกลับมาเดินป่ากันอีกครั้ง หลังจากที่ห่างหายไปนานพอสมควร เพราะไม่อยู่บ้าน และโปรแกรมเดินป่าถูกยกเลิกไปสองอาทิตย์ติดกันเพราะติดฝน วันอาทิตย์นี้เรามากันที่ Duke Forest ในเมือง Durham ช่วงที่เรียกว่า Korstian Division อากาศกำลังสบาย ไม่ร้อนไม่หนาว ป้ายข้างบนเค้าตั้งไว้ตรงทางเข้า บอกเราว่าวันธรรมดาเค้าปิดเพื่อ “จำกัดจำนวนประชากรกวาง” แปลแล้วได้ความว่า ปิดป่าให้คนมายิงกวางทิ้งไปซะบ้างเพราะมีเยอะเกิน 😂

We had a nice and peaceful hike where we enjoyed some of the Falls color that’s just starting to show. The weather was perfect in the 50s throughout the entire afternoon. We clocked in at 4.5 miles, which took us about an hour and a half. Looking forward to be back hiking again next weekend!

วันนี้เดินกันเพลิน อากาศกำลัง perfect อยู่ที่ประมาณ 15 องศา และใบไม้เพิ่งเริ่มจะเปลี่ยนสีพอดี เดินกันไป 4.5 ไมล์ (ประมาณ 7 กิโลกว่าๆ) ใช้เวลาชั่วโมงครึ่ง หวังว่าอาทิตย์หน้ากลับมาเดินป่ากันอีกจะได้เห็นใบไม้สีสวยๆกว่านี้
