The next morning, we drove over to the Blue Ridge Parkway, starting with Tompkins Knob Overlook.
เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้น เราขับรถไปเที่ยวกันที่ Blue Ridge Parkway โดยเริ่มต้นกันที่ Tompkins Knob Overlook
From the parking area, there is a dirt path that leads over to Jesse Brown’s cabin and Cool Spring Baptist Church. According to the cool sign post, this was where traveling preachers held outdoor services for local families.
จากที่จอดรถมีทางพาเดินไปชมกระท่อม Jesse Brown และ Cool Spring Baptist Church ป้ายด้านหน้าบอกไว้ว่านี่เป็นที่ที่ชาวบ้านซึ่งอาศัยอยู่ในละแวกนี้มานั่งฟังคำเทศนาจากบาทหลวงสัญจรที่เดินสายผ่านมาแวะพักที่กระท่อม
From there, we drove the short distance to E.B. Jeffress Park to start our first hike of the day at the Cascades Trail. The quick loop led us on a nicely paved gravel path that features all the main species of trees that can be found in the Blue Ridge Forest. The trail eventually took us across a bridge and then down to Cascade Falls, then circled back to the parking lot.

We finished the one-mile loop within 45 minutes, a little longer than expected due to the steep incline and a bit of foot traffic along the narrow paths! 😝
รอบนี้เดินกันไปประมาณหนึ่งไมล์ หรือประมาณ 1.7 กิโล ใช้เวลา 45 นาที นานกว่าที่คาดไว้เนื่องจากทางที่ปีนขึ้นไปดูน้ำตกค่อนข้างแคบ เลยเกิดการจราจรติดขัดกันเล็กน้อย 😝
After that, we stopped by for the view at Lewis Fork Overlook.

Then heading on to Mt Jefferson Overlook, where we walked over to check out these cows grazing on this beautiful green pasture.
ต่อไปที่ Mt Jefferson Overlook ที่มองไปเห็น Mt Jefferson อยู่ลิบๆ ตามป้ายบอกไว้ว่าภูเขาลูกนี้เดิมเรียกกันว่าภูเขานิโกร เพราะเป็นที่ๆทาสผิวสีหนีไปหลบกันก่อนจะเดินทางต่อไปยังรัฐทางเหนือซึ่งไม่มีการใช้ทาสกันอย่างรัฐทางใต้แถบนี้ ติดกันเป็นทุ่งหญ้าสีเขียวขจีตัดกับท้องฟ้าสวยใสมีฝูงวัวยืนเล็มหญ้ากันสบายใจเฉิบ
Nearby is The Lump Overlook, where we saw more cows…😄 The sign post there tells the story of Tom Dula, a confederate soldier convicted of murdering his lover, and later sentenced to death for the crime. The incident went on to gain national sensation and later inspired a popular folk song called ‘Tom Dooley‘ which was how the locals pronounced Tom’s name.
ไปอีกหน่อยเป็น The Lump Overlook ซึ่งมีวัวอีกสายพันธุ์ไว้ให้ชมกัน 😄 ป้ายที่ตั้งไว้เล่าถึงเรื่องราวของฆาตกรท้องถิ่นชื่อ Tom Dula ซึ่งเป็นทหารจากฝ่ายสมาพันธรัฐที่ถูกตัดสินประหารชีวิตด้วยการแขวนคอเพราะไปฆ่าคนรักเสียชีวิต ข่าวนี้ดังไปทั่วประเทศ จนกระทั่งมีคนเอาไปแต่งเป็นเพลงลูกทุ่ง ‘Tom Dooley‘ ซึ่งเป็นชื่อที่คนแถวนี้ใช้เรียกคุณทอม
We drove over to Jumpinoff Rock, where we parked and went on our second hike of the day. The short trail took us up to the overlook that offered another great view of the Blue Ridge.
จากนั้นเราไปจอดรถเพื่อเดินป่ากันอีกรอบที่ Jumpinoff Rock ซึ่งเป็นทางขึ้นเขาไปดูวิวเทือกเขา Blue Ridge
It took us about half an hour to finish the out-and-back trail which was just short of a mile in total.
รอบสองนี้เดินกันไปอีกหนึ่งไมล์พอดี แต่คราวนี้ใช้เวลาเดินขึ้นลงแค่ครึ่งชั่วโมงเพราะว่าทางโล่งไม่มีคน
Quick stop at the Northwest Trading Post in Glendale Springs which had rave reviews online. We were hoping to grab a quick bite but unfortunately there wasn’t much being offered there in terms of food… 😆
อุตส่าห์ไปแวะที่ร้าน Northwest Trading Post ในเมือง Glendale Springs เพราะเห็นรีวิวมาว่าดีเลิศ นึกว่าจะไปหาอะไรกินกัน แต่พอไปถึงเข้าไปดูแล้วปรากฎว่าไม่มีอาหารค่ะ เลยต้องไปต่อกันดาบหน้า 😆
We ended up getting lunch at Rodie’s Parkway Restaurant over in West Jefferson. These two dogs materialized out of nowhere as soon as we sat down outside with our food. They waited very politely nearby and we ended up rewarding their patience with a few scraps once we were done with the meal. 😇
สรุปแล้ววันนั้นไปทานมื้อกลางวันกันที่ร้าน Rodie’s Parkway Restaurant ที่เมือง West Jefferson ซึ่งอยู่ถัดไปแค่นิดเดียว พอได้ของกินออกมายังไม่ทันได้นั่ง ก็มีแขกตามดอยสองท่านนี้มาจากไหนกันไม่ทราบมายืนตาละห้อยอยู่ข้างๆ แต่พอเห็นว่าเราไม่แบ่งให้ แกก็หลบไปนั่งรอด้วยความอดทน จนสุดท้ายกินเสร็จเลยต้องเหลือเศษขนมปังไว้ให้เป็นรางวัลกันซักหน่อย 😇
We walked over to browse around at this cute little Greenhouse Crafts Shop next door while waiting for our food to be ready. They have the infamous ‘Tom Dooley‘ CD for sale inside! 😆
ติดกันเป็นร้านขายของกระจุกกระจิกชื่อ Greenhouse Crafts Shop ระหว่างเดินเตร็ดเตร่คอยอาหารตามสั่ง เกิดตาดีไปเห็นซีดีเพลง ‘Tom Dooley‘ ที่เพิ่งไปอ่านเจอมาวางขายอยู่พอดี 😆
These four posh gentlemen came along in their matching fancy rides, and parked at the lot while we ate. We saw them visiting the Holy Trinity Church across the street so we went over to check it out after lunch.
กินข้าวกันอยู่พลางๆ แก๊งค์ลุงสี่ท่านนี้ซิ่งรถปอร์เช่มาจอดเรียงกันอย่างเป็นระเบียบหน้าร้าน ก่อนพากันเดินข้ามถนนไปชมโบสถ์ Holy Trinity Church ฝั่งตรงข้าม เรากินเสร็จเลยขอเลียนแบบลุงข้ามไปดูกันมั่ง
The tiny little chapel had a beautiful Last Supper fresco featured inside, along with other really cool art pieces on the walls.
โบสถ์เล็กๆแห่งนี้ข้างในนอกจากจะมีภาพวาดจิตรกรรมฝาผนัง The Last Supper ตั้งเด่นอยู่ที่ด้านหน้าแล้ว ตามผนังทั้งสองข้างยังมีภาพพระเยซูต่างอิริยาบถเรียงรายไว้ให้ชมกันอีกด้วย
