From San Antonio, we headed north and did a quick tour through a part of what they call ‘Texas Hill Country’ which is essentially this region in central Texas with, you guessed it, a lot of hills! 😆 The showcase picture above absolutely does not illustrate an accurate portrayal of the hill country being described at all, but I thought it was a lovely shot with the Texas flag! 😂
จากเมืองซานอันโตนิโอ เราขับรถขึ้นเหนือไปเที่ยวช่วงกลางของรัฐเท็กซัสที่เรียกว่า Hill Country ซึ่งเต็มไปด้วยเนินเขาเล็กๆหลายลูกมาจับกลุ่มรวมกันอยู่ ผิดแปลกไปจากส่วนอื่นรอบๆที่แบนราบซะเป็นส่วนใหญ่ รูปข้างบนไม่ได้ช่วยให้เห็นภาพที่ว่าเลยแม้แต่น้อย 😂 แต่ที่เลือกมาเป็นภาพหลักก็เพราะมีธงประจำรัฐเท็กซัสตั้งตะหง่านให้เห็นเป็นเอกลักษณ์
Our first stop is Bandera, the town that calls itself the ‘Cowboy Capital of the World.’ There were tons of ranches everywhere, some you could stay overnight to get a taste of ‘real cowboy life’ if you’re keen! 😆 At the south end of the town sat Bandera City park, where Medina River runs along its outer perimeter. This is one of the most beautiful rivers in Texas, especially here, where the river bank is lined with bald cypress trees. We were quite lucky with our timing that week, because everywhere we went, wildflowers were in full bloom, and we got to enjoy them in their full glory! 😍
เราไปแวะที่เมือง Bandera กันก่อนเป็นที่แรก เมืองนี้ตั้งฉายาให้ตัวเองว่าเป็นเมืองหลวงแห่งคาวบอย ซึ่งก็สมชื่อจริงๆ เพราะมีฟาร์มคาวบอยอยู่ทั่วทุกหัวระแหง บางที่สามารถไปพักค้างคืนเพื่อดื่มด่ำบรรยากาศคาวบอยแท้ๆกันได้เป็นการส่วนตัว ที่นี่มีแม่น้ำ Medina ไหลผ่านทางตอนใต้ของเมือง แม่น้ำนี้เค้าว่ากันว่าเป็นแม่น้ำที่สวยที่สุดในรัฐเท็กซัสสายหนึ่ง เราเลยต้องไปท้าพิสูจน์ดูกันซักหน่อย ไปเห็นแล้วต้องยอมรับว่าสวยจริงตามที่เค้าว่า ช่วงที่เราไปดอกไม้ป่ากำลังบานสะพรั่งพอดิบพอดี ไปที่ไหนก็เห็นเต็มสองข้างทางไปหมด 😍
After a relaxing stroll along the river, we went and checked out the main part of town. It was a short stretch with cute little shops. The highlight for us was this tiny little bar I spotted right before we left, and couldn’t resist stopping by to snap a few shots. Yes, those were bras in all kinds of sizes, shapes, and colors hanging from the ceiling! 😂
หลังเสร็จจากเดินเล่นริมแม่น้ำ เราเปลี่ยนมาเดินกันในตัวเมืองบ้าง จริงๆมีร้านรวงอยู่แค่ช่วงถนนสั้นๆนิดเดียว แต่ก่อนขับรถออกมาเกิดตาดีไปเห็นบาร์เล็กๆในรูป เอ อะไรมันห้อยอยู่เต็มเพดาน เลยต้องแวะกันเข้าไปดู มันคือยกทรงหลายสีหลายทรงหลายไซส์ ห้อยเรียงรายเต็มไปหมด 😂
From Bandera, we made a quick stop in Ingram, at the campus of Hill Country Arts Foundation, to see a sizable replica of the infamous Stonehenge, called Stonehenge II. 😆 They even have a couple of Easter Island heads on display there too! This place made an awesome photo spot, especially for those like us who haven’t got a chance to see the real places just yet! 😉
จากเมือง Bandera เรามุ่งหน้าไปที่เมือง Fredericksburg แต่ระหว่างทางขอแว่บที่ Hill Country Arts Foundation ในเมือง Ingram เพื่อไปดู Stonehenge II กับ รูปปั้นเกาะ Easter ที่เค้าจำลองมาตั้งไว้ให้ชมกัน ยังไม่มีโอกาสได้ไปดูของจริงเลยขอถ่ายรูปกับของปลอมที่นี่ไปก่อนละกัน 😆
We finally made it to Fredericksburg, a small Texas town with heavy German influence. It even has a sister city in Germany, called Montabaur. We went first to Fredericksburg Herb Farm to check out their little gardens full of cute little knickknacks. They also have cozy little Sunday cottages that were styled like those built in the old days by German farmers so they could stay when they came into town for a church visit, and for their weekly shoppings.
ในที่สุดเราก้อมาถึงเมือง Fredericksburg กันจนได้ เมืองนี้มีชาวเยอรมันมาตั้งถิ่นฐานกันอยู่เยอะ จนถึงกับมีเมืองพี่น้องอยู่ที่ประเทศเยอรมันนีชื่อ Montabaur เราไปที่ Fredericksburg Herb Farm กันก่อน ที่นี่นอกจากจะมีผักสมุนไพรวางขายแล้ว เค้ายังมีสวนดอกไม้เล็กๆ และของกระจุกกระจิกน่ารักๆวางประดับประดาไปทั่ว บริเวณด้านหน้าเป็นบ้านพักให้เช่า ตัวบ้านจำลองมาจากบ้านตากอากาศในเมืองของชาวนาเยอรมันสมัยก่อนที่สร้างบ้านหลังเล็กๆอย่างนี้เอาไว้เพื่อให้ครอบครัวมีที่พักเวลาเดินทางเข้าเมืองมาโบสถ์และมาจับจ่ายซื้อของ
Our next stop was a quaint little shop called Hill Country Antler Art. Here, you can find deer antlers of all different shapes and sizes. We had a very interesting chat with Del, the owner, who was kind enough to explain in detail many facts about antlers we never knew before. These antlers are actually sustainable because they are all found after the deer has shed them. I don’t think I had ever seen such a large amount of antlers all in one place! 😆
จากนั้นเราไปต่อกันที่ร้าน Hill Country Antler Art ซึ่งรับซื้อขายเขากวางทุกชนิด คุณลุง Del เจ้าของร้านใจดีมาก อุตส่าห์นั่งอธิบายให้เราฟังว่ากว่าที่จะได้เขากวางมาวางขายอย่างที่เห็น มันต้องผ่านกระบวนการอะไรบ้าง แถมจำแนกแยกแยะเขาชนิดต่างๆให้ดูว่าอันไหนมาจากกวางอะไร แกบอกว่าเขากวางพวกนี้ได้มาโดยที่ไม่ได้มีการทำร้ายตัวกวาง คนที่เก็บมาขายเค้าเก็บเอาเขาที่กวางสลัดทิ้งโดยธรรมชาติ ไม่ได้ไปล่ามาแต่อย่างใด นั่งคุยอยู่กับแกเป็นชั่วโมง ไม่มีลูกค้าเข้ามาเลย สงสัยว่าแกจะชวนเราคุยเพราะหาเพื่อนแก้เหงามากกว่า 😆
From there, we headed a bit out of town to Wildseed Farms to see their beautiful meadows. This 200-acre farm is one of the largest working wildflower farms in the nation. If it was not so hot, I would have stayed longer. I just could not get enough of seeing the beautiful wildflowers against the perfect blue sky backdrop. 😍
หลังจากปลีกตัวมาจากคุณลุงได้ เราก็ไปดูดอกไม้สวยๆกันที่ Wildseed Farms ซึ่งเป็นฟาร์มเพาะพันธุ์ดอกไม้ป่าขนาด 200 เอเคอร์ ซึ่งใหญ่ที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในประเทศทีเดียว ดอกไม้ป่าหลากสีกำลังออกดอกบานสวยได้ที่ มองไปเห็นกันสุดลูกหูลูกตา สีทุ่งดอกไม้ตัดกับฟ้าสีฟ้าสวยจับใจ ดูยังไงก็ไม่เบื่อจริงๆ 😍
Our last excursion stop of the day was this tiny town right outside of Fredericksburg called Luckenbach, which advertised itself as the smallest town in the state of Texas, with a population count of 3. On the way, there were tons of wildflowers on both sides of the road, and I even got a perfect shot of one with a butterfly right on it! 😊 For what it has to offer: one little post office, a dance hall, and a bar, the place was so crowded with people enjoying live country music in the big courtyard right in the middle of everything.
จุดหมายสุดท้ายของวันนั้นคือเมืองเล็กๆที่มีชื่อว่า Luckenbach ซึ่งอยู่ห่างจากตัวเมือง Fredericksburg ออกไปไม่ไกล เมืองนี้เค้าได้ชื่อว่าเป็นเมืองที่เล็กที่สุดในรัฐเท็กซัส มีจำนวนประชากรแค่ 3 คนเท่านั้น ก่อนเข้าไปในเมืองขับผ่านทุ่งดอกไม้ป่ากันอีกแล้ว คราวนี้โชคดีได้เก็บรูปผีเสื้อมาเกาะอยู่บนดอกไม้ได้พอดิบพอดี 😊 เมือง Luckenbach นั้นเล็กสมชื่อจริงๆ ทั้งเมืองนอกจากจะมีที่ทำการไปรษณีย์เล็กๆแห่งหนึ่งแล้ว ก็มีหอเต้นรำ และบาร์แคบๆเท่านั้น แต่คนตรึมมาก เพราะเค้ามีดนตรีคันทรี่มาเล่นสดๆให้ฟังกันอยู่ที่ลานกว้างใจกลางเมือง
After finishing our drinks, it was time to get back into town for dinner. We took a quick stroll around the main streets of Fredericksburg while we were waiting for our reservation. Many shops were already closed by then but it was still a nice little scene, especially when it wasn’t so crowded. We had a lovely German meal at Otto’s, which came highly recommended as ‘the place to eat’ here in Fredericksburg, and we were very happy with everything we got! 😋
หลังจากจิบเหล้าฟังเพลงกันเพลินๆก็ได้เวลากลับเข้าเมืองไปทานข้าวเย็น ไปถึงยังมีเวลาเหลือเลยได้เดินเตร็ดเตร่กันในเมืองซักพักใหญ่ๆ ร้านค้าส่วนใหญ่ปิดกันหมดแล้ว ตามถนนเลยไม่ค่อยมีคน ซึ่งก็ดีไปอีกแบบ เพราะได้ถ่ายรูปกันโดยไม่ต้องเกรงใจใคร ค่ำนั้นเราไปทานอาหารเยอรมันกันที่ร้านดังประจำเมืองชื่อ Otto’s ซึ่งใครๆก็แนะนำว่าถ้ามาที่ Fredericksburg ต้องลองมาชิมกันให้ได้ ลองแล้วก็ไม่ผิดหวัง ของเค้าอร่อยจริงทุกอย่างสมคำร่ำลือ 😋
